My Top 10 Songs of 2022 - #1 - MARO - "Saudade, Saudade"
#1 - MARO - "Saudade, Saudade"
Portugal's 2022 Eurovision entry. My words at the time were... "just when I think I've gotten bored of this contest, it produces a song so far up my street, it's banging on my own front door!" A gorgeous sun-kissed guitar sound with a mixture of English and Portuguese lyrics about the loss of her grandfather during the pandemic - while also managing to pull off some nation branding in the title.
'Saudade' is an untranslatable Portuguese word meaning something like... a sense of longing for and missing the past or something that's been lost, being sad that something is gone, while still being happy you ever had it to begin with.
I added an unplugged performance of the song below, which I wholly recommend for you to get the true feeling of this song beyond the Eurovision stage.

#2 - Perfume - "Spinning World"
This trio of talented ladies continue to deliver solid Japanese electro-pop music and their trademark doll-like body-popping choreography, this time with retro city pop flavour to it that's easy on the ear, yet irresistably catchy!

My Top 10 Songs of 2022 - #3 - ONE OK ROCK - Vandalize
#3 - ONE OK ROCK - Vandalize
A chart-topping Japanese rock band making a song to promote Sonic's latest adventure, Sonic Frontiers! Immediately that's an exciting prospect, and I wasn't disappointed with the result.

#4 - Marito Marques (feat. Salvador Sobral & MARO) - "Amor Ao Longe"
A gorgeous, hazy and romantic vocal duet between Portugal's Eurovision winner Salvador Sobral and their 2022 entrant MARO, composed by Marito Marques. A timeless sound with lush strings and latin charm.

My Top 10 Songs of 2022 - #5 - Chanel - "SloMo"
#5 - Chanel - "SloMo"
Spain's 2022 Eurovision entry. This woman is a freakin' athlete to be able to pull off this choreography and sing at the same time. The song was originally offered to Jennifer Lopez... her loss! A solid but harmless bit of pop for your summer playlist.

#6 - PSY (prod. & feat. SUGA of BTS) - "That That"
Not a lot to be said here. Simply a cathartic banger from Mr. Gangnam Style himself.

My Top 10 Songs of 2022: #7 Malik Harris - "Rockstars"
#7 - Malik Harris - "Rockstars"
Germany's 2022 Eurovision entry. While it may not have performed well on the contest scoreboard, this gets into the list for having some of the most relatable, straightforward yet heart-wrenching lyrics for our generation I've ever heard.

My Top 10 Songs of 2022: #8 - Blind Zero (feat. Jo Hamilton) - "War is Over"
#8 - Blind Zero (feat. Jo Hamilton) - "War is Over"
Blind Zero are a new name to me personally, but Jo Hamilton isn't. The elusive and mysterious Jo Hamilton released her album "Gown" back in 2009 with a fresh PR push and tour in 2012, which is when I first found her music. Gown hasn't aged a day, it's one of those addictive and timeless albums that keeps on giving.
Jo is a stunning talent from the Scottish Highlands, still working on her follow up a decade later with barely a shred of social media presence. It'll be ready when it's ready, I guess. Until then, it's just wonderful to hear her stunning voice on this track, which has now gained a poignant new meaning in 2022.

#9 - Mt. Wolf (feat. Henry Green) - "Baja"
Another beautiful song from Mt. Wolf who feature regularly in my end of year top 10s. This one is dedicated to the famous whales, seas and ecosystem of Baja California in Mexico. I'm really looking forward to the band's second album. Until then, I recommend checking our their first album Aetherlight and their numerous singles such as Hypolight, Life Size Ghosts, Tayrona, Red and Midnight Shallows!

My Top 10 Songs of 2022: #10 - Voyager - "Dreamer"
This is a little tradition I have been running on my YouTube travel vlogging channel over the last couple of years, but because of the unnecessary stress copyright issues cause and the low view count, I figured a recap video isn't worth the work this year. Instead, I've made a YouTube playlist, but I'll post them here too.
So here's #10!
Voyager - "Dreamer"
Runner up in Australia's 2022 Eurovision national selection. Bouncy synth metal with futuristic sci-fi vibes. Enjoy!

Song of the Day
Got this recent find stuck in my head today, on this sudden lurch from freezing and icy to mild and pissing with rain on Christmas week. Gimme that 17c and sunny gloriousness back.

Giving tumblr a go.
Hello world. I enjoy using Twitter, really, I do. For all its flaws, I like the speed and simplicity with which I could just put thoughts out into the world and talk to people. But over the years, the monopolisation of Twitter and Facebook has caused everyone to consolidate all the older ways of Internetting.
Having multiple different websites and one or two different instant messengers open used to be a no-brainer. So, it's a challenge to try and keep in touch with everyone when Elon Musk (ooh I can actually say the fucker's name without fear here) fucks it all up and starts treating the entire social network like his own dinner party, it means I have to start trying new things. So, here we are. If you don't know me, I'm a travel YouTuber. I make "soulful and honest" vlogs (I'd like to think so, anyway) from my trips in Europe and Japan. But I'm also a Sonic the Hedgehog fan, a music lover, and I'm interested in other things like art, architecture, a sprinkling of politics (although the less the better, I've found) and various other things that inspire and entertain me, so this will be used as a personal space as much as a promotional space for my own content. I hope you'll take an interest and for the love of all that is holy, say hello! The Internet's no fun when nobody talks to you.
This is a lot of words by modern internet standards. I'm gonna have to learn to keep it brief and interesting.
