DENIS MEYERS_
Denis Meyers is a street art artist from Tournai but since a couple of years he makes Brussels his playing fields. His artwork is better known than his name and he became a major influence in the urban landscape of the city. But who is this guy?
For sure, everybody living in Brussels city has once seen an artwork of Denis Meyers. When you are walking on the street, you can’t help but noticing some of his finest art. Maybe if you were completely drunk at 3 AM near «La Grand Place » in Bruxelles but still. You are obviously pointed at the giant mural painting that Denis made for the worldwide association against AIDS. And if you’re constantly dropping by the bar at Flagey place you see what he did for the Duvel trademark in 2011.
In short, Dennis went to the school of arts La Cambre in Brussels where he lived in 00’s and learned graphic design and typography. The artist mixes different styles like screen process printing, stencilled ornamentation or paintbrush technics. His specificity is the fact that he draws big floating heads with large black features and a black point in the middle of the face. It is generally characterized by few basic colors like blue, red and grey. Sometimes, his characters look like him with long dark hair and a Chabal beard.
His influence is between graffiti, modern art, pop art and cartoon imagery. But another specificity is his personal typographic style. Every  letter is painted and totally deconstructed (you can easily recognize it). The spirit of mister Meyers is everywhere in town, you can see what he did in a large number of spots. For example: there are a lot of stickers on standard lamps, graffiti on the walls, even shopkeepers call him to decorate their windows and give a trendy touch with his fresh style.

WINDOW DISPLAY_  “FUN FAIR”
Our goal was to capture the atmosphere of old, travelling fun fairs through a bohemian vibe and a mix of prints and fabrics. To establish a link with the present we decided to mix these influences with a touch of an imaginary world, inspired by Charlie & The Chocolate Factory and Tim Burton movies in general. Hence the use of candy pink and ponies on a leash, as if they were New York dogs out on a walk. This window concept fits in with the slightly quirky, offbeat and spontaneous spirit our brand is known to have a lot of affection for.

THE WATHERHOUSE HOTEL_  SHANGHAI
Our designer team searching for new inspiration across Asia...
Located by the new Cool Docks development on the South Bund District of Shanghai, the Waterhouse is a four-story, 19-room boutique hotel built into an existing three-story Japanese Army headquarters building from the 1930’s. The boutique hotel fronts the Huangpu River and looks across at the gleaming Pudong skyline. The architectural concept behind Neri&Hu’s renovation rests on a clear contrast of what is old and new. The original concrete building has been restored while new additions built over the existing structure were made using Cor-Ten steel, reflecting the industrial past of this working dock by the Huangpu River. Neri&Hu’s structural addition, on the fourth floor, resonates with the industrial nature of the ships which pass through the river, providing an analogous contextual link to both history and local culture.
Neri&Hu was also responsible for the design of the hotel’s interior, which is expressed through both a blurring and inversion of the interior and exterior, as well as between the public and private realms, creating a disorienting yet refreshing spatial experience for the hotel guest who longs for an unique five-star hospitality experience. The public spaces allow one to peek into private rooms while the private spaces invite one to look out at the public arenas, such as the large vertical room window above the reception desk and the corridor windows overlooking the dining room. These visual connections of unexpected spaces not only bring an element of surprise, but also force the hotel guests to confront the local Shanghai urban condition where visual corridors and adjacencies in tight nong-tang’s define the unique spatial flavor of the city.
