The important thing to remember is that, when Shrek came out in 2001, its subversive, ironical tone was groundbreaking because it was up against a Disney machine that played everything completely straight (notwithstanding "Emperor's New Groove", which came out a few months earlier). Then Disney itself bought into that tone and hegemonized it, and now, movies that actually take their own fucking characters and premises seriously feel like a breath of fresh air.

I could have sworn more of them had colour choices yesterday and don't today? But the site is a bugger. Anyway, I've gone with DouZi in pink - just the doll with face up plus a wig.

Now I just need to be patient... (I won't bother working on any clothes - I will be able to crochet a basic dress quick enough, there's no sense without being able to try it on.)

Giving serious thought to this - I know, I know, I don't need it just because it's tiny, but.

Technically this is under doll house size, in my opinion (based on size x scale vs height chart) but eh, close enough you can use doll house props.

I've never ordered somehing with an actual wait time before, my new dolls have all been Resinsoul which is maybe a month, this says 3-5 months. (I know, people who've ordered from some of the big companies are going "Is that it???") So I keep debating "But I don't know what will be going on in 4 months". OK but to be fair, that is unlikely to change.

So now I just need to narrow down which I want... (I always say no sulky dolls but look at that little face.)

I am aware that clothes and shoes will be an absolute sod to get - it looks like even the shoes they have on the site don't really fit. That's OK, they look like pixies, they can go barefoot in dresses.

I know there's only so many ways you can hold a doll this tiny, but all I can think is "Please stop brandishing the pixie!"

(1st picture in pink dress is QiBao, the one being brandished is DouZi, who I'm leaning towards - both slightly sad faces, but very sweet.)

Still really funny that Marvel named a movie “Endgame” and sold it as the final culmination of the MCU where they killed off two main characters and retired a third and then were shocked when people started loosing interest in the MCU after that

I wanted 2 child dolls to go with my own 1/12 doll Orchid but considering how long it's taking me to finish and not feeling particularly exited about the prospect of spending another decade to sculpt some 1/12 child sized bjd i am more then happy with these!

Dusty (orientdoll so-ye, a short lived offshoot of leekee I think it was?) is the same size as a pukipuki, the former champion of smallest bjd you could get, for all those old times collectors who know what size that is and a barbie for size comparison

I'm no scientist, but something that keeps bugging me about Roswell. Patricia and Mimi.

My understanding is that one of the definitions of species is when 2 individuals can produde viable, fertile offspring - have kids who can go on to have kids.

Louise was alien. Roy was human. But together they made Patricia, who then had Mimi, who then had Maria - yes they have health problems, but that's 3 generations.

So... what's your theory? "Doesn't work like that in their universe", "Prometheus: Aliens made us", something else?

I don't have much of a theory, I'm willing to go with "we share some common ancestor, -handwave-", and leave it there (which might fall apart under examination, but eh), but I'm just curious what everyone else thinks.

[I am sure the real answer is "The writers just didn't think of this". I made a deal with myself when I got into watching Roswell that I knew it was soft science and I wouldn't get too tangled up. This is just for fun.]

Had a dream this morning that Archive of our Own had a Random button which would simply take you to a random fanfic, like Wikipedia has. (AO3 does not appear to really have this, I checked and couldn't find one, but I kinda wish they did.) Someone had started a game where whatever fic you got, that was your new fandom, which is very fun! I would love this meme in real life.

The problem came in where so many people used the button that it broke and just started sending everyone to Stealing Harry, and like...I have fond memories of Stealing Harry but it's not my best work and nobody should be assigned to be a Harry Potter fan in this day and age.

So I decide to go off and find Astolat and demand she fix this but when I finally did (there was a whole quest) she turned to me like the baddie in a horror flick and said, "But that's the most random story there is" in a dark voice and I was terrified and woke up.

In the cold light of day I know there are more random stories by me on the archive, let alone by others, but I'm not going to try to get back there to argue my case. Pretty sure whatever I spoke to was actually the demon specifically assigned to plague fandom and not Astolat at all.

I'd say "get thee behind me, demon" but I know just how many porny fics on AO3 begin with that premise. (I've written some.) Begone foul spirit, and take your Satanic Panic with you!
