I have arrived with more questions :>

So

What was the lab like back in mimictale?

Considering the fact that this universe basically has an entire world's worth of room compared to the other aus, I assume it would be much larger unless it was lacking in funds. Did they have other projects to work on? Did the bros ever get to see any projects or were they taught anything about them? Would they have been friends with any of the staff?

Would the core be necessary or would they use something else to generate power? Since they have access to electricity and a much larger amount of land, did they have a similar technological timeline to that of humans? (Like using coal and steampowered engines instead of something magic based)

Also since mimictale is basically a scaled up UT then what would waterfall be like? Would it be in a massive cave or out in the open? Could it be used for mining purposes to support a much larger population, a lil settlement or just a place to explore? Since it's in-between Snowdin and Hotland (where I presume the lab is located) then would the bros have been thru there? If so, do u think they liked it?

Just a few questions, u don't gotta answer them since it's kind of a lot sorry

The capital's lab was VERY well funded. Back in its prime, it was regarded as the leading innovator for technology within the region. I think it'd be nearly completely underground below the Kingdom and only accessible from within the castle, both to make use of geothermal energy and for protection. Most of the lab's work was concerned with studying the effects of magic on organic matter or enhancing the properties of materials and minerals with magic.

Orion and Freki were quite involved with the projects in the lab because of Asgore's indifference to child labour policies, though only Freki was allowed to be present while experiments were ongoing and help out with menial tasks. Orion was still a little too young to be there without constant supervision, so he had the concepts explained to him instead. They wouldn't have made many friends since Eridanus (Mimictale Gaster) tried his best to keep them away from the rest of the lab staff and essentially threatened to strip anyone of their title if they touched either of them. Mimics can get dangerously possessive over children, especially ones supposedly with no declared parental figures.

Mimictale would still use the CORE to power the Kingdom as the geothermal energy generated from Hotland supplies a good part of their energy needs. If not, it'd come from their own magic. The technological timeline does loosely follow that of humans, but as a whole most non-renewable energy sources are often substituted/bolstered with magic or draught animals. Rural areas also have less access to technology or reject it entirely.

I imagine Waterfall to occur as a wetland biome leading into a natural cavern! The surface would resemble a swamp while its underground region would take after a marsh. Its large cave system would definitely be a popular mining location with taverns, stilt houses, wooden bridges, echo flower fields, etc. It was one of the only places where Freki and Orion could catch a break thanks to the sparse aboveground population, so they did like it!

It's no problem for me to answer! I've never thought too deeply about the answers to some of these questions, so it helped me flesh out Mimictale in my head a little more. Have a good day, Anon <3

I have come to ask questions (u don't gotta answer them tho its kind of a lot sorry-) (○-○;)>

Since you mentioned in one of the chapter's comment sections how the guard dogs are treated differently than in the other aus, I was wondering how much mimictale differs from the other universes. Since they weren't underground, do they share the same locations like Hotland and waterfall?

Do mimics usually take on positions of higher power (royal status or something similar) and if so, how does that effect the monsters under their reign conaidering the power differences and general fear of mimics? Is it kind of like a situation where there's a lot of authority over the citizens like for Asgore or do they live under the idea that they are protected and safe?

Also considering how mimics develop in a universe (like how horrortale almost had mimics), did this alter cultures or traditions? Like how all the other aus had puzzles but mimictale doesn't (and like how in horrortale, puzzles evolve to be more like traps if there are any at all) Did some parts that would normally be considered monster culture just die out?

Idk just kinda curious and really intrigued by any possible differences between aus. I know this is a lot and you absolutely don't have to answer any of these, I'm just ranting

Mimictale has all of the different Underground districts! They occur as vast natural biomes that take up as much space as small-to-medium sized countries. Altogether, I'd say they'd cover a little under half the area of the Eurasian continent.

For mimics, it's an obligation to adopt an authoritative/protective role. They're essentially the guardians of the land, like how livestock guardian dogs are crucial to a farm. Without mimics to fend off threats, the monsters would be at great risk. It's for this reason that the normal monsters generally revere mimics and treat them almost like higher beings, even though they are instinctually scared of their animalistic features.

Even in the case of Asgore, most of the non-mimic citizens of the kingdom are blinded by their admiration of his unmatched power. The others who aren't helplessly devoted to Asgore have no choice but to grudgingly accept his rule because they know he's the only thing keeping them safe.

Snowdin's residents are outliers since the forest's state of eternal winter heavily deterred mimics from exploring it. As a result, the residents weren't used to having mimics in their midst and opposed the idea. They've since warmed up to it after seeing how beneficial it is to the community, but their fear of mimics is still easily triggered and they're more likely to lash out. Normal monsters generally only recoil in fright or try to retreat from the situation. Snowdin monsters, due to their lack of historical interaction with mimics that has exacerbated their instincts, will react violently and try to defend themselves.

As for mimicry and culture/traditions, they're closely intertwined! As an evolutionary response to danger, mimicry happens as a result of shifts in monster lifestyle. Once threats started popping up in the form of mutated animals, possible starvation or hostile neighbours, the monsters of Mimictale and Horrortale started placing heavier emphasis on practicality rather than entertainment. Over time, certain aspects of monster culture did fade into obscurity since they didn't serve any particular advantage to survival. But Horrortale is still quite familiar with the original customs since they've only been through some decades of disuse, while Mimictale has been estranged for hundreds of years.

I tend to pronounce words as they're spelled, so to me, reading cile as "sill" is straightforward. now I see how confusing it can be (no thanks to english phonetical inconsistency >:[)

I can relate to this too! the beginning sounds of my name don't exist in english at all so non-natives butcher it a lot.

Hmm, I wouldn't say questions like these come up often, but I do notice that most commenters are confused by Webs's pronouns too. Webs prefers they/them since they can't remember what they identified as when they were human. I don't blame anyone for mixing it up especially since they haven't had a proper introduction to the others yet.

Hello! I just caught up to the latest chapter of ‘The Wolf’ and oh my god, I’m just all over with excitement of or the next chapter! Now I do have to admit something, when reading the few chapters of Gemini revealing their eyes, it’s chapter 5 it said that ‘deep navy dominated the left , light cornflower took the right.‘ so ya must see my confusion when I saw art of them with the eyes in different sides lol do they always change which side they want to be?

the "right" and "left" here aren't gem's right and left! when I was mapping out the scene, I was imagining that the narration took place in front of gem, like the readers were sat before them watching everything happen, so the direction would obviously be switched around. of course, I wasn't sure how many people would interpret it the same way, and that's what the art is for.

disregarding my preference for consistency, there's no harm in switching their eyelights up. they don't normally change them because they're so used to the sides they take, but they can swap eyelights between blinks and they've done it sometimes just to see how long orion takes to notice, haha

I cannot fathom the time you must've spent perfecting every detail down to the RUG and BOOKS. Like, holy fucking shit. Those novels even differ in size and some of them are leaning on adjacent ones. The flower motif on the rug and those sneaky little book covers has to be one of my favourite aspects. It just makes everything look so elegant and cohesive.

And don't get me started on that close-up of the books. I SCREAMED when I realised that NOT ONLY IS GEM'S HALF-AND-HALF WOLF FORM ON THE TOP BOOK COVER, THERE ARE FEATHERS AROUND IT REPRESENTING ORION AND THE SPINE FEATURES THEIR CONSTELLATIONS. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. BENEATH THAT BOOK, IS ANOTHER BOOKMARKED ONE ON SOUL ANATOMY (and if I were to guess, the obscured illustration is of a mammal heart) WHICH IS JUST. INSANE. BECAUSE GEM IS MORE OF A BIOLOGY EXPERT AND I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU CAUGHT THAT.

The perspective and lighting are just GODLY. LOOK AT THOSE GOLDEN RAYS BATHING THE LIBRARY IN WARMTH AND BOUNCING OFF THE PILLAR LIGHTS. It's so realistic I feel like I'm actually in the scene itself, watching this exact moment unfold. The environment is drawn perfectly to where the objects sit in relation to the POV and I still can't get over it. It looks so perfect my eyes are burning

did I mention I screamed earlier? because I should tell you I screamed even louder when it finally clicked in my brain that doomy is curled up next to gem as they're reading, who looks so relaxed and genuinely happy to see orion that it's infectious. speaking of whom, i LOVE HIS WINGS. THE SOFT FLUFFY TEXTURE. THE SLIGHTLY UNEVEN SURFACE THAT YOU CAN ONLY SEE IF YOU ZOOM IN. THE CLEAR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SECTIONS OF HIS FEATHERS.

which brings me to the last part of my rant!! the texture. god, the texture. the floor, the sofas, the pillows, EVEN THE LAMP, the walls and (although somewhat unrelated) the small creases in the cushions showing where gem and doomy have sat down. this whole piece is the definition of masterful and I'm flattered beyond words to receive this divine rendition. GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK. I CAN LIVE OFF THIS FOR A YEAR. ONE OF THESE DAYS I MIGHT START SOBBING OUT OF NOWHERE BECAUSE OF YOU.

The way the jacket puffs up like it's hair standing on end is so good!! Malicious energy just RADIATES from that glint in their eyelight, and the fact that their mask is tilted down so you can't see their humanoid features does wonders for depicting them as a provoked animal.

I'm also obsessed with the details of the mask, including the cracks on the muzzle! Animal skulls are such a pain in the ass, so you have my utmost respect for incorporating Gem's at all. Kudos to the lovely animation as well! I can't imagine drawing all that fur and keeping the transition looking smooth. It's incredible.

HE LOOKS SO BROODY YET MAJESTIC?? ALL OF HIS OVERLAPPING WINGS MAKING HIM LOOK DECEPTIVELY LARGE EVEN WHEN HE'S ROOSTING ON THE FLOOR???? UGGGHHH PERFECT

I can't get over the glow of his eyes. Like. Hell. They look like hellfire. Like the rage of the sun collapsed into a single stare. It's one of the only colourful parts of him and I love love love how everything else consists of cool, muted colours while his eyes are just the fiercest core of a flame. It's so stark. I'm pretty sure I mentioned the same thing last time but I'll never get tired of it.

The mottled patterns of his wings!! GORGEOUS. They actually get lighter the smaller his wings get, so technically his cranial wings have the least markings, but man I don't really care. Every streak is fun to look at. Plus, fluffy spiky feathers galore! The energy he exudes makes me think twice about turning my back on him. Maybe it's the talons.

Poor Alphys. Imagine having to treat an emergency patient while a horrifying angel-beast waits behind you for any slip-up you might make. How ironic is it that a creature who's meant to care and look after others is possibly the most dangerous one of all?

Sorry guys, I won't be able to finish this week's chapter in time. Since school reopened some weeks ago, I've been having trouble adjusting to the new workload and finding a balance between writing and assignments.
