I appreciate that Transgender Day of Visibility exists, but it is also ridiculous on its face. Trans people have existed since the dawn of humanity. We were treated as holy people, we were held as precious. That we are back at the most basic request of having our existence acknowledged is absurd.

I appreciate the day, but there being a need for one indicates a deep and troubling regression. And it _is_ needed. As we are being legislated against and hated and murdered, visibility is as necessary as it is dangerous.

Because y’all I have been to the marches and the rallies. I’ve been at my state capitol trying to talk our elected officials out of the awful toxic bills that seem to be proposed without cease. And I’ve looked around at my fellow transgender siblings and felt that truly no one has our backs but each other. We’re fighting for workers rights and organizing labor unions, we’re chaining ourselves to cranes to demonstrate against cop city, we’ve been martyred in the fight against fascism (Viva Tortuguita). And nobody fights for us as hard as we’re forced to every day.

It’s Transgender Day of Visibility. Ask anyone who has had to muster all the humility in the world to ask to simply be seen, it does not feel good.
