This is another list I have been meaning to do for a while. Glad I waited to do this one as well because this would also differ slightly due to Generation 8 being a thing. I’d like to make it clear that this is my personal list on the off-chance that anyone’s favorites might be on this list. Also, I’d like to add that I won’t be putting Pokemon on this list who have shinies that you can barely tell a change in since that has been overdone on various lists way before mine. So without further ado…
Top 10 Least Favorite Shiny Pokemon:
10) Appletun
...really? Did we really have to go with the obvious green apple color scheme in place of the red? It wouldn’t have been so bad if, oh I dunno, the Pokemon’s body was already green! *sighs* If you’re going to change the apple to a color similar to the body then at least change the body’s! Or maybe not go with that color for the apple? I just hate how boring this shiny is as well as how all that green just sort of blends in.
9) Chandelure
What happened with this shiny? It went from this cool ghostly color scheme to… these awful warm colors. Don’t get me wrong. I LIKE warm colors, but this was just a little much. I think they should have gone with a blue or maybe a red instead of the orange so it didn’t look as silly? Also not a fan of how it’s little face/body becomes this sickly pastel green, like why? Also, I just noticed that it’s “metal bits” are actually different as well. Never noticed that…
8) Guzzlord
My biggest issue with this shiny is the fact that you can barely see its eyes on its stark white body. The eyes are that same bright “Tron” blue which doesn’t work well with how brightly white the body is so you kind of lose it, or in my case if you can see the eyes, hurts my own eyes trying to get a good look at it. I’m also not fond of that dark orange they put in place of the yellow (and for the record I like orange before anyone says otherwise). It’s just a messy color scheme on an already messy Pokemon design. I just don’t like it.
7) Politoed
...what were they thinking with these dark and bright cotton candy colors? Don’t get me wrong, y’all, I like cotton candy colors, but only if they are pastel shades. Not this bright shit! If they just lightened the colors I’d think I’d like this shiny more.
6) Krookodile
I don’t hate the colors on this shiny, they just don’t fit this shiny is all. The Pokemon goes from looking cool to downright silly. On the fly I can’t think of what colors would make it look better, but anything else would be better by this point (well maybe except all those ugly sickly greens most of the Generation 1 and 2 Pokemon were given, yuck)...
5) Flaaffy
I know I said I wasn’t doing barely noticeable shinies, but this one has bothered me since I was a kid, and it wouldn’t be right not having it on the list. First of all, I’d like to say that the shiny is a better shade of pink. However, you don’t notice that the pink is different since it is already pink. I also didn’t notice until years ago that the little bulb on its tail does change colors in the shiny.  Overall this shiny is just lazy. You’re telling me that it couldn’t have been, oh I dunno, yellow since its pre-evolution and evolution are those colors in their normal forms? That would have looked nice and fit with how they become pink in their shinies, but nope, we got a slightly new shade of pink and tweaked fluff and a light bulb change, if you even notice the changes. Also, when I noticed the bulb was a different color, I initially thought that was all they changed on the shiny.
4) Solgaleo
Normally out of the Sun & Moon mascots I prefer Solgaleo, but in their shiny forms Lunala is the superior one. Why is that, you may ask? Because it's the blood moon! But what does Solgaleo get? A bright ass sunburn! Why?? He looks so stupid! (I know those two are genderless in game, but in the Pokedex entry it states that Solgaleo is male and Lunala female.) I feel like there were so many other things they could have done with this shiny instead of just painting the entire body a bright ass red! I hate it.
3) Dragonite
For those who have gone through my blog (I’d say following me but if I have followers I’ve never noticed and that’s because I don’t think I’m good enough to have a following, if I’m being honest) or personally know me, know that I am not a big fan of regular Dragonite. So when we got this hideous shiny it just didn’t help its case… Shiny Dratini is so cute with that nice shade of pink and the shade isn’t even that bad on Dragonair after evolving it, but why would I evolve it further to turn such a good color into this horrid one Dragonite has? Green shinies already have a bad reputation for being too bright so why did someone think making it this… dark yet dull was a good idea? ...I guess at least the insides of the wings aren’t such a bad shade of purple. It’s just so ugly and I despise it.
2) Mismagius
This shiny is absolutely disgusting. Why would you choose these colors?? It looks like the poor thing has been soaking in a swamp or the sewers! They could have gone with any other color. I mean, it has a witch motif, so they couldn’t have gone with black or something equally as dark? I would never want a shiny of this because it’s just horrendous! And it’s pre-evolution shiny is equally suffering. Just bad color choices.
1) Shiinotic
I’ll just come right out and say it: it’s shiny colors are piss yellow and shit brown. You could have gone with an autumn color scheme or, hell even the bright green color scheme since the Shiinotic line is supposed to have some bioluminescence thing going on, but no. They went with the “your plant looks dead” look! I already hate the Pokemon (least favorite fairy type) and then we get this poor excuse for a shiny when I thought we couldn’t do worse colors like Mismagius, but Generation 7 had to prove me wrong. It’s ugly, disgusting, and thanks I hate it.

I have been meaning to do this list for quite some time. I’m glad I waited till Generation 8 to do it since this list would be slightly different. Keep in mind this is my own personal list so some of your least favorites might be on this list, or you might have a totally different opinion all together. Since this is a top 10 some Pokemon didn’t get to make the list so...
Honorable Mentions: Espeon, Mightyena, Breloom, Gardevoir and Mega Gardevoir, Regigigas, Rockruff line, Cofagrigus, Diggersby, Minior, Drampa, Bewear, Slugma, Rowlet line, Lunala, Altaria, Absol and Delphox.
Top 10 Favorite Shiny Pokemon
10) Zygarde 50% Form
This is such a lovely shiny. It takes the boring black and ugly radioactive green of the original color scheme, and turns it into this crisp and clean sparkling white and minty green. Simply breathtaking.
9) Giratina
I love how this shiny really embraces the ghost typing of Giratina. The color scheme is terrifyingly beautiful, if you will. I usually like shinies that take dull gray and black color schemes and soften them up or change them to a white or silver color. This is hands down my favorite legendary shiny. So gorgeous!~
8) Sableye
I am not normally one to like the color of metallic gold, but something about this shiny just looks so stunning in it. I like having the chest gem changed to green because it gives the color scheme a sort of greed feel to it, and that just makes the shiny even better.
7) Slurpuff
This shiny is not only cute but also delicious. The colors are so playful, if you will, and I like how Slurpuff goes from being strawberry and vanilla to cherry chocolate. Overall it is a tasty and fun shiny, and I simply adore it!~
6) Metagross
This shiny is so sleek and badass looking! Silver is one of my favorite metallic colors, and the fact that it is accentuated with a nice golden yellow that stands out real nicely to the silver really earns it some brownie points since those are some of my favorite colors put together. I just feel like the original is just, well, boring, and in the shiny Metagross just looks like this steel juggernaut! There’s a reason this is on a lot of top shiny lists. It’s just so fucking cool!
5) Rapidash
Usually Ponyta gets more attention and praise for its shiny, but honestly I feel like the blue flame shinies are just so… cliche and not in a good way. What I like much more in Rapidash’s shiny is that the charcoal lavender looks so striking and elegant. Overall it’s just a pleasant shiny to look at it and it has always been one of my favorites~
4) Ninetales
This is hands down one of the most beautiful shinies I have ever seen. The colors are just lovely. I simply love how beautiful but deadly the vibe of this shiny gives off. It is easily my favorite Generation 1 shiny of all times!~
3) Milotic
This shiny is just down right GORGEOUS!~ There is not much I can really say other than that because it’s true. I just love it so much.
2) Ampharos/Ribombee/Furret
These three are on here since I couldn’t choose between them, with them all here for the same reason: well-made pink shinies. I think all of their shinies look good and even make the Pokemon cuter *especially Furret*. These are much higher on the list because I’ve liked some of these shinies since they debuted in Generation 2 and it would be a shame not to put them on the list as well as any lower.
1) Alcremie
And here it is the obligatory black shiny. I spent such a long time trying to hatch one of these! It took me almost 600 eggs before I finally got one! I had the candy and nickname already picked out as well as I was saving the mushrooms for the Gigantamax Soup I was going to give it for when it finally hatched. This took so long but it was worth it! It is literally a cookies-n-cream shiny and I love that! This shiny overall just does everything right for me to where it deserves its place on this list, and I can’t wait to use it in a future playthrough!~

Top 10 Least Favorite Pokemon
You know what’s harder than making a top favorites list? A least favorite one. I was particular about this list because I wanted my own personal opinion on the matter instead of adding to the echo chamber that can be the fandom’s. I don’t hate these Pokemon. These are the ones I care for the least. Also, the placements kept changing for this list, but I feel like I finally put everyone on here in the right order now.
10) Whismur Line
The only reason this line is the Normal typing is because Game Freak hasn’t made the Sound typing official. Hell, Electric, or even Steel, would have made more sense. But nope we got these weird fleshy sound-based things that I’m never excited to see.
9) Greedent
I take back everything I said about Diggersby (still wished it didn’t have the belching model cry though), and I’m directing that towards Greedent. It looks like your typical fat, lazy, and not particularly bright cartoon character. Almost feel like they were a bit lazy in this design. Like… they could have done something more, or less since it’s large enough. I feel like Game Freak is trying to recreate a likeness to Snorlax, since it’s the poster child for obese Pokemon, but keeps falling short by giving us the ugliest designs. We don’t need more fat normal types. We’ve got plenty.
8) Electrode
Hey guys, let’s make this Pokeball based Pokemon flip upside down, make it less pissed off and call it an evolution! Also, it’s going to be crazy fast as well explode, most likely killing anything nearby, because why the fuck not? Boring and dangerous… what a match made in hell for a design!
7) Pheromosa
It’s an almost 7 foot tall sentient cockroach with legendary stats. Nope. Just nope. *flees*
6) Grimmsnarl Line
I have been disappointed with this evolutionary line since seeing the leaks of Impidimp. I know a lot of Faerie lore and it ticks me off that they chose a Goddamn Goblin for the first Dark/Fairy type. Also, and I know not all Faeries are cute and cuddly, but why does Game Freak keep trying to sneak in ugly Fairy types? About 95% of the Fairy typing has a cute or pleasing ascetic. That’s one of its themes, that and trying to throw pink on everything, so why give us this ugly line?
The only indicator of this thing remotely being Fairy typing at a glance is that it’s pink. I would have never gotten Fairy otherwise from it. Goblins might be in Faerie Tales, but they aren’t Faeries.
The only one in this line that remotely gives off the Dark typing to me is Morgrem. The other two not so much. Putting black on a Pokemon is maybe another indicator of the Dark typing, but even then it ain’t helping…?
Overall to me this thing is goofy to ugly looking with its design and typing a complete mess. It irritates me that our first combination of Fairy and Dark is this line…
Also, using it in a playthrough and it pisses me off that I’m not getting a Fairy move until it reaches its final evolution! That’s if I don’t want to grind up watt points in the Wild Area for a Fairy TR, or beat Opal before getting said evolution!
5) Shiinotic
Fairy typing makes sense for Morelull when you realize what it’s based on. Hell, even Ghost does. But Shiinotic? I don’t care if mushrooms are a big thing in Faerie Culture. You can’t just design some ugly ass alien mushroom hybrid then slap the Fairy typing on it because of mushrooms or lore from a pre evolution! While we’re at it let’s make the Amoongus and Breloom line Fairies too!
Morelull should have been a single stage line. It would have made sense. But no. They just wanted to make an ugly Fairy type just to prove they could say: “hey fandom I know you’re sick of all the cute and pink Fairy types so here’s an ugly one to change things up!”
And don’t get me *started* on that ugly ass shiny! Game Freak: bright yellow and muddy browns are a terrible color combination! Guess why?
4) Spinda
You know how I praised Alcremie for having multiple forms because of what it was and why it made sense for it? Well I have the opposite opinion regarding Spinda.
If I didn’t believe in the golden rule of everyone having a favorite of each Pokemon then I’d very much assume this thing wasn’t liked by anyone.
Everything about its design annoys me. Why is it a panda? And before anyone tries to tell me otherwise, it’s in its American/English name. Why is it in a constant state of vertigo? I literally was trying to think of a typing it would be better off as instead of the Normal typing and none come to mind. So it’s normal because a) it’s an animal or b) because they needed to give it a typing and no other typing fit.
And out of ALL the Pokemon why does this one have an almost endless possibility of “forms”? This thing has got to be a living dex collector’s worst nightmare!
3) Archeops
This Pokemon is on here for pure personal reasons. Technically there are a few other Pokemon that I feel the same towards, but this one was the worst about it.
You know you have a stupid powerful stat as a non-psuedo legendary and legendary when you need an ability to nerf you. What’s worse is when you need a pretty bulky Pokemon to soak up the damage you reap before said ability does nerf you.
It was always Goddamn terrifying to run into this Pokemon in White 2. Not only was a good chunk of my team weak to Flying, but my Samurott couldn’t take more than one hit from it. Not to mention it didn’t do enough super effective damage to OHKO this thing. So I was never happy to run into this thing because I would only get out of the fight with a lot of collateral damage to my party!
This wasn’t the only Pokemon that was this fucking difficult to deal with in Unova. There is definitely a power imbalance in these games which made playing them a pain in the ass. Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE Black 2 & White 2, but fuck me if this wasn’t my biggest issues with those games…
(Some of y'all are probably wondering about Slaking, and Slaking is actually easier to deal with thanks to its typing and ability readily triggering.)
2) Pelipper
This Pokemon was originally going to be my least favorite Water type on my favorite and least favorite typings lists, but I think its placement on this list suits it better.
I honestly don’t mind its pre-evolution Wingull. Wingull is kinda cute. Wonder Trade had me groaning every time I saw one, but that was more the player’s fault than anything.
Pelipper is just such a poorly designed Pokemon. Like, what were they thinking when they essentially fused the beak and stomach together? How can this thing carry its front heavy, well front? I assume it can handle all of that weight being airborne since I doubt it can get around any other way with its stubby little feet.
Then they gave it the Drizzle ability and suddenly people give a shit about its ugly ass…
The only time I’ve “willingly” used one was in my Wonderlocke, which was only due to the fact that I was in dire need of a water type, and I'll tell you that right now that I didn’t want to resort to using it. I’m pretty sure it died at the very end in the Champion battle… wasn’t all that sad to lose it if I’m being honest.
This isn’t just reserved for this Pokemon, but I absolutely hate the dual typing of Water/Flying. Nothing says “throw a rock at me” more than this typing combination.
Overall I just don’t like anything about this Pokemon.
1) Greninja
This Pokemon used to be a lot lower on this list, but as I mentioned right before the list that the order changed as I was making it. I can promise you that this Pokemon isn’t on here because of how popular it is (there are others that would be on here if that was the case). There are many other reasons I will go over as to why this one is on the list.
The first is my experience using a basic one in XY. It’s learn set of moves is terrible, and that’s because it learns a lot of physical moves despite having a much better Special Attack. When I thought about the aspects of a ninja’s special attack being higher than physical it made much more sense. It had little to no options for Dark type moves with one of the best moves for it not being available till you’ve gotten the 8th badge for Waterfall. Greninja was the weakest member of my team with my Aromatisse putting in much more work than it! If Greninja is not competitively trained as well as has any of its hidden abilities then it’s not really that useful. I kept the one from that playthrough because I don’t have the heart to release it or get rid of it…
The second is its design. I very much don’t care for it (its tongue scarf is gross!). Its middle evolution looks so much better to me, and it made me sad evolving it into this ugly thing…
The third is its typing. I’ve had some time to think about it and I’ve wondered to myself: why is Greninja a Dark type? Thinking of the history, and to some extent the mythology of ninjas, nothing screams Dark type to me. I’m also taking into account of Dark being Evil in Japan, and nothing about ninja inherently screams Evil or Dark typing. Then I found myself thinking about its other typing in Water which brought me to the conclusion that the only reason Greninja is a Water type is for two reasons: 1) It’s a starter and 2) it’s a frog.
So you’re probably thinking by this point: “well Radish if you don’t like its typings then what would you change them to?” Unfortunately, I’d keep Water since it’s not the only Pokemon to have a typing based on the animal it is (looking at you Poliwag line!). Dark typing would be replaced with Ghost since ninjas in their lore and mythology can traverse and interact with the spiritual world.
I will address the elephant in the room for my closing thoughts on this Pokemon: Greninja and the fandom. I wholeheartedly believe that if Greninja didn’t have the hidden abilities that it did that it wouldn’t be as favored as it is among the fanbase. As someone who used a basic ability one in hopes of giving it a chance I was greatly disappointed, and didn’t understand why this Pokemon was so popular. That’s why I feel as though the competitive scene is where it has gotten all of its fame from. People give Charizard so much shit for being overrated but do they for Greninja? (Not a big fan of Charizard for those who wanna accuse me as such.)

Top 10 Favorite Pokemon
You’d think a top 10 for my favorite Pokemon of all times would be easy, but it has taken me quite a while with some soul searching to actually comprise this list together. While I feel as though most of this list is slightly unique compared to most top 10s, you will still find a few Pokemon in here on typical favorite lists.
Since this is a top 10 some Pokemon had unfortunately to be cut. So here are my Honorable Mentions: Slurpuff, Rowlet, Furret, Leafeon, Bulbasaur, Maractus, Appletun, Vanillite, Girafarig, and Braixen.
Top 10 Favorite Pokemon:
10) Cradily
I’m not normally one for fossil Pokemon. Don’t get me wrong, I think reviving fossils is a cool concept with Gen VIII expanding on the idea of creating abominations against what nature intended, but other than that… the concept falls flat for me after that. Not to mention most of the fossil Pokemon designs don’t do much for me. However, the Cradily line has come a long to be that exception towards my general distaste for them.
I’d like to think it was the typing of grass that gave this old fossil the charm to win me over. My Sun Wonderlocke is also a big metagaming factor with Cradily having survived on the winning team that beat the challenge.
It’s got a unique typing and a weird design being the oddball on this top list, but it deserves its spot nonetheless.
9) Gogoat
Sometimes you just need a Pokemon that has a good design, a favorite typing, a decent move pool, and fun to use on a team to become someone’s favorite, and that’s exactly what this Pokemon did to earn its spot on this list. Plus, whenever I play XY I always wanna use one lol!
8) Roserade
Some might disagree with me, but giving Roselia a pre-evolution and evolution was one of the best things to ever happen to it. Roserade is just so cool yet so elegant all in one design. (Budew is hands down my favorite baby Pokemon, if anyone is curious~) I also have this weird fixation on roses so that’s another reason why I adore its design~
Every time I play in the Sinnoh games I almost always want to use one on my team. (Playing a Torterra playthrough and fighting that urge haha!)
And not only is it a solid grass type, but a poison one to boot!~
7) Ampharos
...speaking of Pokemon that I almost always wanna use when I’m in their native region…
Three Pokemon on this list are here from my fondness of them as a child/pre-teen with Ampharos being one of them. Ampharos is definitely an odd one for its typing: slower and bulkier despite being a pure electric type, which had a niche of being faster and fragile. Not to mention it’s a sheep that sheds and grows into a llama! So I guess you could say its oddness is what I find so charming about it~
6) Breloom
...and also speaking of childhood favorites that are charmingly odd…
Breloom’s design and typing makes no sense, unless you wanna count the fact that it looks like it has some kangaroo in there for the fighting part… *shrugs* and I couldn’t care less. I have no idea (besides the mushroom part) what this Pokemon is supposed to be and I love that! It’s just so useful and good and it’s almost always on my Hoenn team.
5) Eevee
There are people probably rolling their eyes and groaning in dismay, but I will forever stick by this Pokemon. When I was a kid I was obsessed with this Pokemon! I had to have anything Eevee I could get my grimey little mitts on! My mom even made me an Eevee costume for Halloween that I remember fondly to this day!~
I know Eevee has reached overrated status, but honestly, and not saying this because it’s on my top list or anything, but uh… Eevee actually has a good reason for being popular besides being those who are the mascot (Pikachu) or nostalgia (Charizard). It’s cute and versatile. Do you need a certain type on your team? An Eeveelution can almost always fill that missing spot. Plus one of Pokemon’s biggest gimmicks in evolution, which Eevee sells pretty well since that’s its claim to fame!
But I will admit that Eevee is on here for nostalgia purposes and not putting it on here wouldn’t have felt right.
(If the Let’s Go games hadn’t have been a thing then this list would have been starterless… go figure.)
4) Sawsbuck
This Pokemon was originally lower on the list till I really sat down to explain why it was on here. Normally I have a hard time pinpointing what I like in a Pokemon design, and I was thinking of what I liked so much about it had I finally have a Pokemon to sort of show that in.
What I like about Sawsbuck’s design is that it’s not just a normal deer. It’s a deer mixed with a tree and its seasonal cycles. I like that it has forms that tie into an in-game mechanic instead of just bloating up the dex that fit its typing. Its name sneakily hints at the form changes too, which is brillant! You can clearly tell what its typings are just by looking at it. Some might argue that the Normal typing not so much, but, and myself included before, I have met a few people who have mistakenly slapped that typing onto the likes of Gogoat because Normal is usually associated with animals. Not to mention deer are a huge problem in the country in which the region is based off of so that was a smart decision in kaing one for those games. Sawsbuck is also quite handy at tanking a lot of physical damage, especially when you’ve got moves like Leech Seed and Horn Leech on it. So I thoroughly enjoyed using one the first and only time I have (though I plan to use it again at some point).
I hope I’ve made sense with why this particular Pokemon qualifies as the example of my choices in choosing Pokemon.
(Oh and if anyone is curious… the Autumn one is my favorite aesthetically out of the four forms.)
3) Ludicolo
This goofy looking thing puts a smile on my face. Its idle animation is charming, and it makes me giggle when it shimmies in its attack animation. I don’t know what it is about this thing that I simply adore, but finally having since used one in my first playthrough of Alpha Sapphire I almost cannot be in Hoenn and not use one. Not to mention I love the dual typing of water/grass. It’s so handy and such a good combination~ Overall Ludicolo is *chuckles* an odd duck that makes me feel joy every time I see or use one.
2) Alcremie
This was THE Pokemon I was the most excited to use in Galar upon its reveal!~ It was already so cute being a part of a theme of Pokemon I simply love: food-based Pokemon, and then what does it do? It can turn into a giant fucking cake! Like holy shit…! And then down the line in another reveal trailer what was the first thing I immediately noticed; an alternative colored one! What’s what Game Freak? Different flavors of this thing? Sign me up!
From its design, to its Gigantamax form, to its flavor forms, its shiny, and even the way you evolve it I just love everything about this Pokemon!~
(My only gripe is that if I want to Gigantamax one I have to go out of my fucking way to find one, and that irritates the fuck out of me! Not to mention two of its candy options are event exclusive, which is horse shit! But that’s just a personal gripe more than anything so don’t mind me…)
1) Aromatisse
This Pokemon is fat, pink and sassy, and I fucking LOVE it!~ It looks like someone tried to fuse a fuzzy perfume bottle with a cancan dancer, a flamingo, and a plague doctor mask, and we go this beautiful mess!~ I also love the fact that this thing is 50/50 on the gender scale so you could essentially have a drag queen on your team, which makes sense for its over-the-top design. I also love how it literally screams and whoops at you in its model cry. If it shows up you’ll see and hear it.
People talk about how cute its pre-evolution is and how they prefer it to Aromatisse, and honestly I’ve always felt the opposite of that. Spritzee is cute but Aromatisse is wonderful!~
It saddens me that my fandom will almost always put my favorite on the hated lists, but that’s how different opinions and tastes can be… *shrugs*
(I’m sure many of you are cringing seeing this as #1 and that’s okay lol!)

Top 5 Favorite Rivals
Least Favorite list: https://atrainernamedradish.tumblr.com/post/190290513502/top-5-least-favorite-rivals
Top 5 Favorite Rivals:
5) Barry [Diamond & Pearl; Platinum]
I think people can agree with me when I say Barry either needs to lay off the sugar and caffeine, or needs some Adderall, because holy fuck he was so damned hyper it was unreal! And before someone gets mad at the joke let me remind you that there is some dialogue where he tries to count to ten, and proclaims he can’t even sit still to do so! Like sweet Lord Barry calm the fuck down lol!
Jokes aside, I thought Barry was a solid rival. He wasn’t mean-spirited about being so or always trying to act better than you about it. Sure, he was cocky, but he eventually learned that he had to put his ego aside to actually learn how to be that much of a better trainer. His teams were pretty solid too. He wasn’t the hardest person to face, but he wasn’t a pushover by any means. Sometimes his hyperness was a bit annoying, but nothing that bugged me for too long. He was a good rival to have when you’re trying to deal with the headache that is the other rival that is your boring opposite gender.
4) Marnie [Sword & Shield]
Marnie is an interesting character. When I first saw her in the reveals for Sword & Shield I thought she was going to be this arrogant punk (I blame the black leather and spikes :P), but when you actually meet her that isn’t the case. She’s actually someone who doesn’t have that much confidence in herself, at first though, but as you progress through the game she builds up to that. In fact, the only thing she was confident in was not taking over her brother’s gym and setting out to do her own thing. Besides believing how confident she was going to be, I was also expecting Marnie to have this annoying personality (but I feel like that was due to Team Yell being there more than anything), but once again she blew my expectations out of the water! Her personality was sweet and likeable and it was refreshing! Her team was actually a pretty powerful one and was actually fit her aesthetic! That’s actually rare for a rival in this series if I’m being honest… From her aesthetic that mixes hard and soft (which yay the girls will be getting her outfit which I adore and can’t wait to have on my alt character!), her sweet shy personality that eventually gets some quiet confidence behind it, and her battle prowess, I enjoyed her as a rival as opposed to the other two who either got shafted by the overdone formula, or the one rival trying to be the OG rival who we’ll never truly get back.
3) Blue (Green) [Pokemon Red & Blue (Green); Yellow (Pikachu Edition); FireRed & LeafGreen; Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee]
And speaking of the OG, here he is: Blue (or Green if your Japanese). Many Pokemon games after the originals have tried to replicate this character, and haven’t quite made one that is up to snuff. This character is a perfect blend of cocky asshole and a strong trainer. You almost liked how much smack he talked then enjoyed kicking his ass after the fact, and doing so wasn’t always an easy feat, even in the remakes (excluding the Let’s Go series since he isn’t your rival in that). He had almost the perfect team not only against your starter but to also counteract your team members that made up your team for said starter’s weaknesses. That’s why kicking his ass was all that much sweeter because he didn’t just hand it to you. He made you work for that victory. While I’m not necessarily someone who is looking for a rival that has to be an elite trainer or anything, it’s nice to not have a friendly rival who talks a big game but is always going to face defeat, and quite easily and quickly too, by your hands. There have been some other rivals that have been pretty tough to deal with, but not as challenging as Blue will ever be… There’s a reason you will find this asshole on almost every top rival list. He earned that spot. Because despite being that smack talking asshole that you have to work extra hard to beat… he is kind of charming. He’s the rival you love to beat.
2) Bianca [Pokemon Black & White; Black 2 & White 2]
I want to make this clear with about my opinions on characters in Pokemon: they don’t have to be the strongest to be my favorites or even liked for that matter, and Bianca is one of those characters as far as battling prowess is concerned. I like Bianca for her character arc as well as the character herself. I think this character gets a lot of hate for no reason other than her not being a strong trainer, or not automatically being this confident cool character that should be ready to adventure which is honestly sad…
For me, Bianca is a very relatable character who in my honest opinion is a very underrated character. She is a character who wanted to do something with her life, but wasn’t sure how to start or go about doing it. Her first attempt is by doing what all the other characters her age do and that’s to set off on her own Pokemon journey, even if she wasn’t exactly ready. As her story progresses she comes to realize that that isn’t for her, and honestly not every person in that world is going to go out there finding out that this is for them. Not to mention not everyone who sets out on their Pokemon journey is going to find themselves being these super powerful trainers who are always going to confidently beat everything in their path. Bianca getting picked on by Team Plasma was not all that farfetched. She was a brand new trainer experiencing new things making her an easy target for them. Your character could have easily been just as privy to Team Plasma. Generation V showed that anyone was susceptible to them. But anyway, I’m going a little off topic, Bianca did struggle, but her struggles eventually took her to her calling: being a professor’s aid. Which fits her and overall is a good story arc for her. She’s not your typical rival of going around trying to one-up you and getting on your nerves trying to do so. She’s a friend, a main character, and unlike the typical power hungry overused rival archetypes, she grew and I was happy for her.
Not to mention, Bianca is one of the first few characters in the series to actually really… notice that there is this big new world around you and it’s something to explore taking it in as opposed to rushing into filling the Pokedex or doing the Gym Challenge, and honestly that’s refreshing for a character! Because you cannot tell me that if you were to leave your home setting off on a journey traveling to many new places that you’d overlook everything? Probably not. You’d want to explore all the new sites. That’s the whole point of an RPG is to explore. I felt more immersed in Black & White than most Pokemon games because I had a character in my journey to make it feel like it was actual exploration instead of bare bones places with much to be had. Unova, as to other regions, had a lot more sightseeing options and a lot more to explore. Unova just felt big, kind of like Johto and Kanto for GSC/HGSS. Just, thanks Bianca for feeling like a real person, instead of one-dimension rival who either wants to kick my ass or is so boring that I wish they were annoying lol…
1) Wally [Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire; Emerald; Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire]
It’s like I stated with Bianca: a rival for me doesn’t have to have battle prowess to be liked by or be a favorite for me. Not gonna lie, I wish Wally had a better team, but unfortunately Wally falls under the earlier formulas of forcing trainers to use entirely new Pokemon instead only peppering their teams with a few new ones, but whatever…
Wally has one of my favorite rival arcs. He is a sickly kid who wants so badly to be healthier and have a Pokemon of his own so he could one day to set on his very own Pokemon journey like the other kids who have probably left by now on it. Nicely enough your character is there to guide and watch over him as he finally catches his very own Pokemon, even if later you were there to kick his ass a bit later on… While I do like how ORAS gave more facial expressions for this character to make you more sympathetic to him in the story… I wish they hadn’t had him show up after your battle with your dad to keep that mysteriousness of him actually progressing along side you on your Gym Challenge (yes I know you could read the gym signs to see that he’s doing it, but no one thinks to read those, let’s be honest!) before running into him at the end of Victory Road, but oh well. Honestly I wish they had had him in the Champion spot, kind of like what RBY did with Blue, but instead of knowing your rival was one step ahead of you as always you had the sickly kid you thought you sent home after a crushing defeat there instead who actually overcame it and decided to meet you there to prove he did so.
Overall Wally was an underdog and I like characters like that. You don’t expect him to become much more powerful after Mauville. He takes his defeat and he does his best to make up for it by having it push him. He wants to be stronger to prove to everyone, but more importantly to you, the person who was there to witness his journey from the start, how capable he was. Yeah, you do inevitably beat him, which is the fate of the main player in Pokemon, but when you do it you don’t think “aw man I beat another weak rival” or “hah! I beat your smug ass again!” you think of how it was a fun battle and a great progression in a well developed character’s story. And even then, Wally doesn’t take the defeat as a loss, but more as a way to push himself even further. He sees losing as a way to overcome something as to trying to cover up his frustration or to go packing home, and that is an admirable trait. Plus the final battle with him on Victory Road was pretty epic with that new theme of his as well as made me a bit sad because I had to beat him and all he did was smile and thank me… Made me want to cry lol… But that’s why Wally is my favorite rival. He has a great character arc, personality, and he makes me feel so many emotions that I feel like other rivals or characters couldn’t give me… Good job Wally you will always be the rival.

Top 5 Least Favorite Rivals
5) Kalos Rivals [Pokemon X & Y]
Don’t get me wrong: I like the idea of having a group of friends setting out on their Pokemon journey together. That’s a wonderful idea! My issue is, however, the way it was executed… I have just moved to a new region and have four other kids already clambering at my doorstep to get to know me and befriend me. As someone is very introverted and socially awkward… that would not sit well with me.
Not to mention there is clearly one that is romantically interested in me trying to be better at me at battling as well as with pretty much everything on my journey. Which, sorry neighbor, but not no, but hell no! I’ve got better things then hang out with someone who’s already sizing me up thinking that they’re better than me, and trying to make me feel bad for always kicking their ass! Fuck off Serena/Calem!
Then you have the other one who also has a crush on you, especially if you’re the male character: Shauna! The fireworks scene in the storyline wants to come off sweet and enduring when in reality it comes off creepy! Like… sweetie, we’ve only known each other for not that long, I am not interested in you. If they would have toned this back a little, I would have liked Shauna more, oh well.
Trevor annoyed me so much! I don’t care about the Pokedex, and stop crying every time I’ve seen more Pokemon then you in it! If you cared so much about the damn ‘dex then why haven’t you worked as hard on it as the game claims you have, for fuck sake! Every time you are on the screen I want you gone! Oy!
Tierno was the rival I actually liked the most. He actually had a personality that wasn’t creepy or annoying. My only gripe with him is that he talked about having a fucking dancing team, and had no members to speak of that looked to fit the part! I think in the anime he had a Ludicolo, which is something he should have had on his team, but as always in each new game they are trying to push the new Pokemon so hard that they fuck up a character’s team doing so…
4) May/Brendan [Ruby & Sapphire; Emerald; Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire] & Dawn/Lucas [Diamond & Pearl; Platinum]
You know what’s really annoying? Having a rival of the opposite gender who is pretentious and egotistical because they have a teeny bit experience over you, but is weaker than they realize pretty much being filler wasting your time in the game’s storyline.
These are the assholes that started that trope of the “nice” weak rival that has implied romantic interest in you. What a waste of character space in my opinion… As much shit as I gave the Kalos rivals, at least they had some personality compared to these boring carbon copies of each other these four are...
3) Hop [Pokemon Sword & Shield]
Put away your pitchforks, and hear me out before you mob me! I don’t necessarily hate the character itself. I hate how he conflicts with the usual formula for Pokemon games.
He talks a lot about how he’ll follow in his brother’s footsteps and become the next champion. He thinks of you starting out as someone he has an edge over always acting surprised when you know even the basics of Pokemon and battling. He tries so hard not to let you know that always whooping his ass bothers him, but it does every single time.
The game tries to introduce this champion successor that has done as this research who already has a Pokemon when you first battle them. But even then the usual formula contradicts them. They choose the weaker starter allowing you to beat them so easily! And then have the audacity to be surprised by the results!
Then when Bede beats them, which how the fuck do you lost to a single type specialist who hasn’t been training that long Hop?! You can’t feel sorry for him because he was doomed to fial from the start! Game Freak already had him precoded to get his ass beat by you over and over again, despite the story claiming otherwise! There was no damned reason why Hop was in the finals with you! To be honest, it wouldn’t surprise me if his matches were rigged because he was related to the champion!
Hop had no business being cocky throwing around his brother’s title then feeling sorry for himself when he lost. I just can’t invest in this character. He is a knockoff Hau if Hau actually gave a shit, which they failed at doing in USUM. Even Hau was more of a challenge and someone I was more emotionally invested in…
Game Freak, if you’re going to try and spin this try hard rival that’s in the shadows of their better sibling then make it believable. Your own formula fucked up a perfectly good character arc and it shows. By this point in my second playthrough I was rooting Bede on to kick Hop’s ass again. That’s how little I care about him.
2) Cheren [Black & White; Black 2 & White 2]
I am about to get soooo much hate for this! Oh well…
You know what drives me crazy? Having to be stopped every 5 fucking seconds by my annoying childhood friend who doubles as my rival because we just beat the local gym leader, and he has to see who is the better trainer telling me how strong he is and how strong he wants to see how I’ve become since the last battle, and how he wants to be the champion of the region, and then when I beat him he will be surprised I won and how he needs to get stronger to beat me, and rinse and repeat. Every. Single. TIME! Like… Cheren… FUCK OFF! Let me having so fucking breathing room!
1) Hugh [Black 2 & White 2]
You know what’s worse than what Cheren was doing above? Take Cheren, make him angrier and jaded, give him an attitude problem and make him whiny, have him obsessed with Team Plasma, and you have Hugh.
I’ve got better things to do then be friends with a guy who thinks he can talk to me however he pleases who tries to boss me around and act like he’s better than me. Like, Hugh, honey, grow the fuck up and see a therapist. I hate when games give me friends/rivals like these because I don’t like them. I would never associate with people like this in real life. As much as I would want to whoop the shit out of someone like this, it takes less stress and time to just not be around them and save me the headache. He was the worst experience for me in Black 2 & White 2, and those are some of my favorite games in the series, to give you an idea. I hate this guy.

My NPC Pokemon Trainer
So I caught an old video from a random Poketuber that was talking about what kind of Pokemon team they’d have if they were an NPC in the games (as well as what class they’d be). With that being said I thought I’d introduce what myself would be as a random NPC in the Pokemon games.
(Let it be known that this is subject to change depending on what Pokemon will be revealed in the generations to come.)
My trainer class would be Chef since I love to cook (and bake respectively).
I’m an event battle. To activate the battle you have to click on a suspiciously colored oven in the kitchen of my house in game. Upon clicking on it you hear the sprite/model cry of a Rotom. Then my character runs up to you saying how Rotom senses you as a worthy opponent to battle. I give you the YES or NO option so you have a chance to heal up.
My team consists of Pokemon that are food-based: Slurpuff [fairy] (cotton candy that evolves into a cream puff; fairy floss is another name for cotton candy so a play on words for its typing), Vanilluxe [ice] (looks like ice cream and a cone), Appletun [grass/dragon] (looks like an apple pie), Rotom [Heat] [electric/fire]  (doesn’t look like food, but you can cook/bake on or in an oven), Sirfetch’d [fighting] (it’s practically an onion knight), and Polteageist [ghost] (tea that is possessed/haunted).
If you defeat me I reward you with a set of treats that contain one of each of Sweet Heart, Ragecandy Bar, Lava Cookie, Old Gateau, Lumiose Galette, and a Big Malasada.

UPDATED WITH OLEANA AND CHAIRMAN ROSE*
Oleana - Virgo
The real drama of Virgo’s personality is interior. To the world you may give an impression of calm authority, but you are aware of your own nervous, restless, controlled intensity, the desire to be up and doing, rearranging, improving. You can exhaust yourself more by simply sitting still than others do moving around.
The planet Mercury, which rules both Virgo and Gemini, inclines its subjects towards constant activity. However, in Gemini the nervous energy is directed primarily towards stimulation and adventure, while in Virgo the ceaseless drive is to accomplish and perfect. It’s impossible for Virgos to put off until tomorrow what might be done today. You are, in a word, organized. Your idea of taking it easy would seem like hard work to most people. You are not a daydreamer, you’re a day-doer.
You tend to have difficulty getting in touch with your deeper feelings because your mechanism of denial is so firmly set in place. “I’m not upset,” you’ll say. “I feel okay about [this other person being promoted instead of me, him dating another woman, etc.]” Saying you feel “okay” covers a lot of messy feelings you’d rather not examine.
Your nature is shy and reserved; it’s hard for you to relax, to make small talk or be gregarious with strangers. You prefer one-on-one encounters, in which you can offer the full benefit of your sharp insights and discerning opinions. That’s also when people discover how well-read, perceptive, charming, and witty you are.
The first thing you learned about money matters is that money does matter. Although you tend to downplay your own ability in financial affairs, no one is better than you at staying within budget. You aren’t tempted into foolish ventures. Your bank balances usually jibe to the decimal point. You want the finest but rarely overpay, and you have a built-in resistance against self-indulgence.
A highly developed sense of discrimination may lead you to be hypercritical. You are unsatisfied with things as they are and continue to analyze situations and people in the hope of finding a way to make them better.
A warm, loving relationship brings out the best in anyone born under this sign because basically you are kind, devoted, and very loyal. When your affections are engaged you tirelessly try to serve loved ones. They will never have to worry about who’s going to keep the checkbook balanced or look after them when they are ill.
You have plenty of willpower and dedication, and you work harder than anyone to make sure something is perfect. Why? Because if you can’t do everything superbly, you begin to fear that you’re failing. You are too critical of yourself. Actually, you’re an enigma that no one can quite figure out. You hold back with people you don’t know well and are reserved even with those you love. Inwardly, though, you feel very deeply. Intensity and extreme sensitivity are parts of your secret self.
People trust you to handle any job. They think of you as a person who can analyze almost any problem in a logical way. You are valued for you ability to set priorities and to create order out of confusion. Because you’re both discriminating and truthful, people trust your judgment on books, theater, and clothes. However, you don’t wear your heart on your sleeve, and as a result others often perceive you as haughty and cold.
What really had me pegging Oleana as a Virgo would have to not only be how she carries herself throughout the entire story line of Sword and Shield, but especially the scene before and after you battle her. She is a woman who has her focus on what’s important, which is her job at Marco Cosmos and sort of watching over the Pokemon League by keeping Chairman Rose in line, and often disregards anything that doesn’t line up with that making her seem cold and aloof. If you get in the way of everything she has sought out to keep in order and on schedule… well… you get this insane side of her that has been pushed too far, like when you meet up with her to battle her. When you defeat her she doesn’t take the loss too well looking way too disappointed. That’s how much she invests into whatever she’s into. That fits Virgo perfectly. And to be honest, as successful as Chairman Rose is, I don’t think he would have gone far has Oleana not kept him in check. I feel like she is the backbone of his company. Not to mention Rose is one of the few people I feel she is close to, and it really plays into that secret soft spot Virgos can have when you can get past their frigid regimented exterior.
Chairman Rose - Libra
Librans are easy to like, for you have a captivating charm, possess elegant taste, and are usually beautiful to look at. In addition, you have the gift of making others feel important, for you are a superb listener and instinctively know how to draw out another person. You’re famous for how effortlessly you smooth ruffled feathers, bring out smiles, and make others think they’re the most wonderful people in the world. You’re a born charmer.
You tend to judge others by outward appearances. If someone has a charming facade, you won’t look any deeper.
Libra is the zodiacal sign of Partnership - in psychological terms the sign is outer-directed. Your energies are focused on melding and combining with other people; you are at your best in personal relationships. Your real energy, however, goes into people. Whether they be partners, lovers, mates, family, friends, business associates, or even guests at your party - relationships are your metier. You’re simply not a loner. Instinctively, you try to magnetize and pull others towards you. However, your main interest is on yourself within the relationship. You deal intuitively with other people’s emotions, and no one is better at understanding and taking into consideration another person’s point of view. Yet all too soon that outside view-point will be lost or subsumed within your own subtly self-centered concerns.
In the professional world you’re a superb team player. You’re able to meld many disparate egos into one smooth-working union. Your friendships and associations bring opportunities, and your best luck comes when you pool your creative talents and intelligence with powerful individuals who open doors for you.
Born under the sign of the Scales, you strive for balance and harmony and are happiest when your environment is ordered and serene. Peace is worth any price to you and usually you will go a long way out of your way to avoid friction and dissension.
You are a born diplomat. In order to avoid an unpleasant scene, you will even stifle your own true feelings. In fact, far too often you are not sure what your true feelings are. Because you try to be all things to people, there is a general impression that you are indecisive. You appear to be constantly poised on an edge, seemingly unable to move one way or another, balancing pro with con, advantage with disadvantage, risk with gain. Underneath your genial, calm surface, you have to struggle in order to make decisions.
And so you spend a lot of time feeling you’re not “Real” that you’ve conned others into thinking you’re smart and successful, but very soon they’ll find out you’re a fraud. One of Libra’s best-hidden secrets is how shaky your self-confidence is- and certainly your sense of not being whole and creating a false front is at the core of your insecurity.
The exception is when you’re denied a privilege to which your feel entitled. That ruffles your fur. Librans have a reputation for stubbornness, but that’s because you are sticklers for fairness. In general, it seems your strength is only brought out by crisis.
You get along harmoniously with people who are even-tempered, particularly those who can laugh in the face of difficulties. You are particularly appreciative of talent in any field. Often people are surprised at the wide range of your interests because you hide your superior intellect under an agreeable, easygoing exterior. Libra is a cardinal sign, which means you’re an initiator. You love new projects, unusual people, different ideas, and you’ll travel anywhere.Gifted with imagination, flair, and enthusiasm, you have an open, independent mind that tries to evaluate the world dispassionately and rationally. You also have a good head for money (though your great weakness is a love of luxury).
You are an incorrigible idealist. Your stock-in-trade is charm.
I chose Libra as Rose’s sign because Rose comes off to me as someone who is charming who’s good with charming other people and coming off warm, though aloof, but in reality who doesn’t look past the surface with others which is where the aloof part comes in. I mention this part because I feel like there has been some confusion with his relationship with Bede. I feel like he did care a little for Bede, but only enough to scratch the surface instead of digging deeper. And I feel like Rose came to that realization when the whole drama came up between them. I also feel like that whole thing was Oleana’s fault more than Rose. I don’t think Rose made him destroy important parts of Galar for Wishing Stars. I feel like that was lead by Oleana, which Opal pointed out, so that’s why Rose was so disappointed about it. Could he have handled how he responded to what to do with Bede, sure, but that’s my take on that whole situation.
But all-in-all Rose is a nice guy, I have no doubt about that. Sometimes he’s a bit airheaded and kind of all over the place, but he can be intelligent in other things such as with his company and the studies of Dynamax/Gigantamax. While I have no doubt in my mind he can manage his company, I do feel like his assistant Oleana does take care of a lot of things because Rose can get too caught up in being a socialite. Overall Rose is a man who wants peace and what’s best for everyone, but he does it in such a self-involved way. That explains why when he is revealed as the “villain” he was so adamant in it happening sooner than later and being a bit reckless about it.
[Piers has been added since he is the leader of Team Yell and Team Yell is technically considered an “evil” team. It’s sort of like the same with Team Skull. So if I’ve added Guzma I need to add Piers as well.]
Piers - Aquarius
Aquarians are unorthodox, original people - sort of wacky, witty mad-caps who refuse to follow the crowd and go their own way. You like being different. Not only march to a different drummer, you make up new music as you go along.
In the sign of Aquarius, the combination of a fixed quality (representing persistence) and an air element (representing intellect and communication) under the influence of the planet of change, Uranus, creates a personality that is liberal, progressive, yet fixed in opinion. Your inflexibility shows up when others least expect it (in keeping with your penchant for unconventionality). It may be in defense of an idea you have, a trip you’ve decided on, a habit of yours that you refuse to give up - whatever the cause, someone will suddenly come in conflict with your Aquarian obstinacy. You refuse to compromise or give an inch.
Problems arise when your sense of identity becomes inextricably linked to your ideas. Like Gemini, another air sign, you have a lot of ego invested in your opinions.
When others disagree, you take this as an attack on your personhood. Your fixity turns into willfulness and rebelliousness for the sake of being a rebel. You deliberately refuse to recognize that your idea isn’t working in the real world of your relationship or career - and you sabotage yourself by insisting on your way even if your way proves to be unfeasible.
You are very people-oriented. Outgoing and amiable, you attract friends wherever you go. You possess a true common touch, yet never lose your own strong individuality. Your gift is dealing with all kinds of personalities from every walk of ife, no matter what their station or status. You never put on airs, nor are you cowed by anyone’s wealth or position. If you met the Queen of England, you would be your natural self. The nicest part is that you do not judge. You willingly grant to others what you consider an inalienable right: the freedom to be unique. For you, the ultimate liberation is simply the freedom to be oneself.
An Aquarian will hatch up a grandiose scheme for improving the way things are, but your main interest is in creating the idea, not translating it into action through work. Hard work doesn’t interest you. You are creative, imaginative, endlessly willing to experiment, but the drudgery of detail and the minutiae of management are not your style.
You are so determined not to be like anyone else that you are sometimes contrary just to be different. You have the least regard for convention of any zodiacal sign, which often gives you a reputation for being eccentric.
Sometimes you will be argumentative not because you feel deeply, but simply because you enjoy the intellectual exercise. You are quickly bored and take delight in verbally provoking anyone you consider stodgy and dull.
Nevertheless, Aquarians are amongst the kindest people in the world. Easygoing, reasonable, slow to take offense, never mean-hearted, you believe in live-and-let-live. Honest, helpful, altruistic, and best of all never boring, you can change anyone’s life for the better just by becoming part of it.
Piers is someone who comes off to me as someone who has ideas, but doesn’t know how to properly execute them or keep in charge of them. That’s why Team Yell was a bit more over the place than that of Team Skull. Where Team Skull was just being rebellious misfits who wanted to earn some money on the side, outside of Marnie Team Yell was just boring or unusual, and not in a good way… Once you got to Piers it made a bit more sense why Team Yell was backing Marnie, but other than that, they were unnecessary for the already questionable storytelling of Sword and Shield.
Piers, besides his obvious punk rock styled fashion, is someone who is rebellious and doesn’t play by people’s rules or obligations. The biggest to note on that are Piers not wanting to implement Dynamaxing/Gigantamaxing in his town/gym as well as trying to mess up the Pokemon League to give his sister an edge on the competitors. He wasn’t above breaking rules. But as opposed to Guzma who broke rules for the sake of being a rebel, Piers did it for the people he loved. He also does that later on in the story when you’re fighting against Rose’s underlings. So while he is a rebel, he’s got a heart of gold and usually means well. He just needs a bit more direction with his plans…
Overall Piers and Guzma are quite alike (I mention this because Aquarius might sound up Guzma’s alley but Guzma is much more jaded than Piers so that’s why Guzma was given a different Zodiac), but they are actually quite different as well. I hope my reasonings for Piers is very apparent with that.
Pokemon Villain Bosses + Zodiac
[I’ve had this on my mind for a few days now, and wanted to hone my knowledge of zodiac astrology before actually posting this. Enjoy~]
As someone who is passionate about both Pokemon and zodiac astrology I wanted to combine the both, and I thought I’d give it a go with the villain bosses of the main series games (I say that because I haven’t played much of the side games except maybe Mystery Dungeon). This is all for fun and if anyone knows a “lick” of zodiac astrology they can put in their two cents encase they see a better fit and whatnot.

I literally SCREAMED when I got Treecko haha! So all your Treecko lovers can have you a laugh. I know I did.
As far as my nature is concerned... yeah. That makes too much sense. I accept who I am :P
Chose my favorite starer. Ironically enough when I first played Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team I had gotten Torchic and my partner was a Chikorita. So now the typings have filled. Who knew lol?
Thank God for random generated names because I couldn’t think of shit lol!
I haven’t played since the other night, but I will see how far the demo goes... Either way I am so excited! I loved the original Mystery Dungeon games and the fact that we have this now makes me a happy radish ;v;~! Also, Pokemon Square is one of my favorite tracks and I’m glad the remix in this game is so good +p+

This is part of the challenge where I fill up the Pokedex with my choices for each of the eighteen typings so I have at least one Pokemon in each typing. This the part where I’ve probably added way more than Emperor Cubone did for his challenge. I wanted lots of options as well as to give love to other Pokemon who deserve the spotlight compared to usual suspects. Some are also on here due to them usually being version exclusive pairs.

Build-A-Dex Challenge [2/3]
Part 1: https://atrainernamedradish.tumblr.com/post/186594319157/build-a-dex-challenge-13
Build-A-Dex Challenge:
3 Starters:
In the video the starters weren’t based off pre-determined region trios but more on choosing one of each of their signature typing making them into their own separate trio.
For grass I chose my 3rd favorite grass starter in Torterra. It’s bulk and attacking prowess makes up for its lack of speed with a nice STAB Earthquake and Wood Hammer! Ground is also such a wonderful secondary typing for the primary grass. I have no problem using such a tanky Pokemon, and it deserves some love and face time compared to the other two that rank higher than it on my starters list.
For fire I went with another 3rd favorite choice in Delphox. I don’t care what anyone says, I simply adore this entire starter line~! Fire/Psychic is such a great unique typing that I can use thru this Pokemon without having to resorting to hindering Darmanitan or hoping Game Freak can lend me a level 50 Victini, which I doubt! This is a special powerhouse that I am always eager to have on the team, and just like Torterra, it needs more love~
When looking at my choices for a water starter I realized something... I am not the biggest fan of water starters. I don’t necessarily hate them, but I honestly don’t care for them. One of the few I simply adore however is Primarina. Fairy typing is always a solid typing to have, and you can teach it coverage moves to take down those pesky weaknesses. It’s slower like Torterra, but like Delphox has a good special attack to scare away any threats!
My three choices honestly just have great dual typings, and aren’t so bad in battle for an in-game play through. I guess you could say that my choices were underappreciated underdogs~
Regional Bug:
One of my favorite regional bugs originates from Hoenn in Wurmple. It is cute with an unique way of evolving. Unlike other bugs native to other regions who simple have a three stage evolution, Wurmple has five! Not to mention its branched as well determined by its personality value, which cannot be altered. So not only do you get a few extra Pokemon to fatten up the Pokedex, but you have it in an unique way too~
Regional Bird:
I personally am not the biggest fan of regional birds as well as the dual typing of normal/flying. With that in mind I went for Fletchling because it drops the normal typing for fire upon evolving. Plus Talonflame is a beast in battle, and helpful outside for hatching eggs and getting you around the region.
Regional Rodent:
While I’m not the biggest fan of Diggersby’s design, it is one of the better options among its niche when Bunnelby evolves. Not only is ground a nice secondary typing, but eventually this Pokemon learns STAB Earthquake via level up among other useful moves via TM. STAB Earthquake and Return make it a viable team member early on and setting it apart from the basic boring options of route 1 normal rodent encounters.
Regional Cat:
Setting my Pokedex choices apart from the aforementioned basic boring normal types is the dark type Purrloin and its evolution in Liepard. Liepard can actually be a nuisance to deal with if you have the right moveset on it. Dark typing is always nifty to obtain early game as well.
Pikachu Clone:
I promise you that I am not trying to squeeze as many fairy types as I can into this Pokedex. Pretty much I wanted to add in a decent clone among the list and it was between my choice of Dedenne and the one that I didn’t choose in Togedemaru. Dedenne is not only adorable, but can be very hard to deal with if you don’t have two of its only weaknesses since the third one is neutral in this type combination.
Pair of Fossils:
Emperor Cubone didn’t specify if you had to choose an actual regional pair, or if you could mix and match them. Since I am unsure of that I will simply go with fossils from Hoenn in Lileep and Anorith. Personally, I really don’t care for the Anorith line. It’s simply there for the Lileep line since that is my favorite fossil line hands down! Lileep and Cradily are one of the few fossil Pokemon that doesn’t have to deal with water, and especially a 4x weakness to grass compared to the other fossils, and that’s always viable. Some of its other weaknesses like bug and flying have to be extremely careful around its rock typing, which with its high defense and HP stat can usually soak up attacks from. Not to mention its other grass side weaknesses in fire and poison are neutral since its rock side resists the two.
Overall the Lileep line is one of the best fossils you could ask to have (though I’m sure the Anorith line has its merits).
Unrelated Connections:
I went with Durant and Heatmor because I wanted typings with lesser numbers to fill the dex likes steel and fire (since starters make up most of the fire typing). I think Durant is a pretty cool Pokemon who usually overshadows its rival, and I wanted Heatmor to get more attention since I can image it being pretty forgettable.
Cave Encounters:
I wanted to spice up this category by eliminating typical encounters such as Zubats/Woobats and mono-type rock types as entries. There will be a bat and rock in the forms of Noibat and Carbink. I chose these two since their typings correspond with each other. Plus they have a lot more to offer than your typical bats and rocks.
I thought I’d throw in a ground type since ground types can be a common typing to be found in caves so I went with Drilbur. Not only is Excadrill such a beast of a powerhouse, but it also gets the steel typing which can be a later threat to Carbink to round off the typings in the caves.
Surf Encounters:
Instead of annoying sea birds and jelly fish I thought Wishiwashi would make a good replacement, At lower levels it’s annoying at best, but in higher leveled waters this thing would not only be terrifying, but is powered up, but there’d be some juicy XP to gain.
Remoraid is another option I wanted to add since it actually learns a fair amount of moves that can not only handle its weaknesses but is powered up by its ability.
Mantyke/Mantine is the last surf encounter option. Since Remoraid is its counterpart I thought it would be a good idea to have it with it. It would be the rarer encounter with Mantyke in lower leveled water and Mantine in higher level water. It also sort of replaces Wingull/Pelippers annoying flying asses,,,
Tough to Find/Evolve:
I’m going to start off with a Pokemon that fits the bill for both these requirements: Feebas.
Feebas is usually hard to find with Alola having it at 10% which I believe is pretty high compared to the low specific areas to usually find in other regions. Depending on in-game mechanics, Feebas can evolve in two different ways which can be easier or harder depending on the way to do so. So that’s why Feebas is on this section of the list.
I have three Pokemon for Tough to Find with female Salandit starting off the list. Unless you are lucky, or can exploit a male Pokemon with the Cute Charm ability, then you’d have a 1 out of 10 (I’m treating 100% as a 10) of finding one that is female. The reason gender is so important is because only the female can evolve. You could use a male Salandit, but it’s so weak that I wouldn’t bother... (Salandit is actually really cute and I feel bad pointing out how weak it is.)
My second pick is Mareanie, and to some extent Corsola. Corsola only as a 5% chance to be found through fishing unless you look for bubbly spots to fish at bringing it up to 20%, which is lower compared to other Pokemon you can fish for as well in those spots. You also have to spend time leaving and coming back to the minuscule routes Corsola’s on for the bubbly spots to appear if you want that extra 15% chance to encounter it. And even when you finally encounter the damned thing you have to hope you get another 20% in the SOS method to lure out the Pokemon you’re actually trying to get! So good luck~
My third pick is Maractus. In the generation its from you have a very small chance of finding it. You can practically overlook it that’s how rare it is! I chose it because it needs more love~
For Tough Pokemon To Evolve I have another set of three Pokemon.
My first choice is Nincada. Leveling it up is a fucking pain, especially in early games (think of Magikarp in that regard)! Then you need to make sure you have an open slot in your party and a spare Pokeball, or you can kiss getting both of its branched evolutions in Shedinja!
My second choice is Clamperl. It isn’t the super rarest Pokemon to find, but finding it is tedious since it has either a lower percentage or you need an HM. You also need to catch two and have two specific items so you can trade them while holding said items to get it to evolve both into Gorebyss and Huntail.
My last choice is Porygon. You usually gave to go out of your way for it, or much later in game to obtain it. Then you need to find two specific items to not only trade and evolve it, but then once more to get it to evolve again!
Doesn’t Evolve (Minimum 2):
I have chosen four Pokemon for this category” Girafarig, Mawile, Cryognal, and Drampa.
Girafarig is an odd Pokemon with a mostly unique typing (at least the one who started it lol). I feel like it’s very underrated, underappreciated, and forgettable to most so I wanted to add it to give it more love and attention~
Mawile is cute and has a good typing.
I don’t know why but I’m very fond of Cryognal. Sorry if that’s not a good enough reason to have it on the list lol~
Drampa is my favorite dragon type. It’s a shallow reason I know but... *shrugs* eh. What do you want from me?
Pseudo-Legendary:
I chose Beldum because it has such a desirable typing and Metagross is an absolute beast as well as can learn some good moves to cover its weaknesses. Plus it is a well designed Pokemon from it’s first-stage to its Mega. An extra bonus is that it’s a non-dragon Pseudo compared to the rest, and the less dragons the better!
Legendaries (Max 5?):
In his video Emperor Cubone stated that just like the starters, they don’t have to be with their respected pairs/trios/etc.. Unfortunately Mythical Legendaries aren’t an option for this list since they require outisde sources to get them usually. I also didn’t include Ultra Beasts since they’re more of a regional gimmick.
For these five I was trying to have as little typings shared between them as well as these choices were made more for aesthetics than anything.
I have no real other explanations for why I chose these other than what was aforementioned or that these were my favorites from their group/pair/version exclusives: Xerneas, Virizion, Lugia, Giratina, and Solgaleo.

Build-A-Dex Challenge [1/3]
This challenge was made up by the Emperor Cubone, which I will put a link to the video in part one of this three parter. Warning, though, there are spoilers about Sword & Shield in the video for those trying to stay spoiler free!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_CH6_iAn4c&t=754s
So in the initial video he made up a list of what is typically seen in your standard dex, as well as sort of what you’d find in the wild. He also wanted to fill up at least one of each typing. I will try o go into great detail about why I’ve chosen the Pokemon that I have. I can tell you right now that I probably added way more in mine than to his lol!
Build-A-Dex List:
3 Starters
Regional Bug
Regional Bird
Regional Rodent
Regional Cat
Pikachu Clone
Pair of Fossils
Unrelated Connections
Cave Encounters
Surf Encounters
Tough to Find/Evolve
Doesn’t Evolve (Minimum of 2)
Pseudo-Legendary
Legendaries (Max 5?)
1 in at least each type
In part 2 of this I will cover all of the list excluding the last one about the types. That will be in part 3.

25 Pokemon I Hope AREN’T in Pokemon Sword & Shield
This topic of discussion was thought up by a Poketuber named PokeMEN7. This is a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCRCbmKaa4c.
For those who aren’t aware the newest generation of Pokemon games will only feature the new Pokemon introduced in Sword & Shield and only a select few from past games. This means there is no National Dex. Me, personally, am mainly indifferent about this whole controversy. Ace Trainer Liam summed up a good explanation that I agree on that I will link for those who want my opinion on the matter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2GnKjiQexs.
With this in mind from seeing the video by PokeMEN7 I wanted to sort of give my opinion on the Pokemon I’d rather not see make a return for these games. I apologize if your favorite(s) is on this list. While there might be a few that I’m not fond of on my list, I want to make it known that I don’t hate any of these Pokemon.
This list isn’t in any order, by the way. So without further ado...
1) Basculin
While the Pokemon games aren’t shy about producing Pokemon with multiple forms that serve no purpose other than just ascetics (looking at you Shellos and Gastrodon!), Basculin is honestly a Pokemon that has no business existing at it is. It was literally made just so we could have a couple of extra water types when Generation V was lacking in that typing. That’s it. So let’s keep it from wasting space in the Generation VIII for other Pokemon that have a more deserving spot.
2) Whismur/Loudred/Exploud
I literally sigh in disappointment whenever I run into the first of this line. I’ve never liked the design, it gets bigger and uglier, and I’d rather see some other normal type lines that won’t have wishing for other Pokemon.
3) Spinda
Do we really need to put Spinda and all of its patterns in the game?
4) Volbeat/Illumise
The reason they’re put as the same because they practically are the same thing. There’s no point in wasting two Pokedex slots for two Pokemon who honestly should have been a singular Pokemon with drastic gender ascetics. Not to mention they were a wasted opportunity for a firefly/lightning bug Pokemon.
5) Spearow/Fearow
It’s no secret how I have a disdain for regional birds, as well as the normal/flying dual typing. But instead of dedicating an entire entry to all of them/that typing, I will give that spot to these two. Spearow, and Fearow respectively, are always portrayed as a bunch of assholes who honestly aren’t well designed or stated, and it’s annoying dealing with a, well, annoying Pokemon and its evolution.
6) Voltorb/Electrode
Speaking of terribly designed Pokemon... This Pokemon honestly is forgettable past its gimmick of looking like a random item on the overworld layout (the Johto games had it in the main story line, but it was still gimmicky), and we even had more memorable slightly better designed Pokemon who pulled the gimmick off better. So why fill up the newest Pokedex with bad Generation I designs?
7) Surskit/Masquerain
Surskit is cute with a nice typing... and that’s all about it for me. It’s stupidly rare for the sake of having rare encounters, and then it drops its water typing just to be another overly done bug/flying typing. While I don’t mind the design of Masquerain... we have enough bug/flying types as well as let’s have bug/water in the game that’ll stay that typing.
8) Morelull/Shiinotic
We don’t need a creepy badly designed Pokemon who shares the same typing with other Pokemon who’s better looking lacking the creepy factor.
9) Shuppet/Banette
Banette only became relevant after it was given a Mega Evolution, which won’t be in the newest games. Other than that, it is outclassed by other ghosts in its generation who deserve a spot more than it.
10) Sunkern/Sunflora
While I don’t have anything against this line... there are other flower Pokemon that I’d rather see in the Pokedex.
11) Poryon/Porygon2/PorygonZ
This Pokemon is rare, usually obtainable towards later game also being a pain to evolve because not only do you need to find the level up items to evolve it with, but you have to trade it twice to activate the evolution! So why waste three slots on something so tedious?
12) Qwilfish & 13) Dunsparce
What is with Johto having rare one -stage forgettable Pokemon?
14) Farfetch’d
If we’re going to dedicated a slot to a one-stage punny Pokemon I’d rather it be Girafarig.
15) Kecleon
While better in design compared to Voltorb, this Pokemon had an annoying gimmick that only stayed in its debut generation, and with good reason. Then Greninja comes along taking the concept of its unique ability making it into a better ability and outclassing it. So why should be bother letting it be in the Galar Pokedex with that in mind?
16) Chingling/Chimecho
Chimecho was a last minute addition in its debut generation and it shows. Making it super rare was also a bad decision. Then you give it a baby form that is also extra work to get because you need an item for it to breed one... From a culture stand point this line is well designed, but do we really need to add it in there with that all in mind?
17) Mime Jr./Mr. Mime
Do we really need this creepy thing in the games? Mime Jr.’s fine, but you can’t have one without the other...
18) Yungoos/Gumshoos
Yungoos is cute. I’ll give it that. But Gumshoos’s design was such a bad idea! Like... couldn’t they have done something with its hair to not make it look so... “Trump-y”? Like this Pokemon line came out at such a bad time...
19) Corsola
It’s sad that this Pokemon was relegated to nothing more than a prey for catching another Pokemon species... If it wasn’t forgettable then, now it’s now know for being sad as well din-din.
20) Castform
Why would you waste time raising this thing when its gimmick is situational? Not to mention it being rare by either gifting or in the thing that gives it its gimmick? Put a Pokemon in there that benefits better with form changes.
21) Binacle/Barbaracle
It’s barely memorable and when it is it’s for being ugly.
22) Woobat/Swoobat
Why would you want a knockoff Zubat that cuts out the middle man in the evolution?
23) Drowzee/Hypno
If we’re gonna have a two-stage mono psychic type based off the Tapir then I’d rather have the Munna line since thy are less creepy about the whole dream thing.
24) Stunfisk
It is literally there for the dual typing check box. I’d rather Game Freak make a new Pokemon with that typing combination and do it right this time.
25) Burmy/Wormadam/Mothim
Do we really need 7 forms of useless Pokemon with bad designs taking up slots from more deserving Bug types and other Pokemon?

Pokemon Tattoo Ideas...
So I had this idea a while back for a set of matching Pokemon tattoo sleeves. Initially I wanted them to be of the fairy typing, but after my whole grass affinity from the Wonderlocke, as well as discovering love for Pokemon of the same typing, I’ve debated on making it grass type sleeves... I know that I want to Incorporate Sawsbuck in there (not sure which one but I am particle to the Autumn form). Not sure what other grass Pokemon I wanna add as well as how the design is going to look, but I wanted to throw that out there. Might add Lilligant in there since it’s also one of my favorites as well...
Fun fact: I don’t have any tattoos so the whole notion of wanting one, especially on this big of a scale is hilarious and I can only imagine the pain I might go through for this (though my pain tolerance isn’t anything to snuff at but the whole scenario is kind of funny)...

So I finally tried a Wonderlocke...
[Special thanks to a buddy of mine who I was chatting with online while doing the Wonderlocke who helped me recall some things I couldn’t go back and access about what had occurred in the Wonderlocke!]
(Technically this is my third attempt, but when USUM became a hassle to actually beat after my second attempt the third/final attempt was done in SUMO where I actually beat the game.)
My starter was a Cutiefly and made it to the very end upon me beating Kukui. Ribombee is a solid little Pokemon, and this was the first time upon replaying SUMO/USUM where I didn’t struggle with the Totem Lurantis battle.
Not gonna lie, the start of the locke was kinda scary... My first three Pokemon were bugs with Cutiefly being the only decent one. Things started looking up when I finally received a Pokerus Vullaby. Sadly, Vullaby died to Guzma’s Pinsir at Aether Paradise just three levels short of evolving. It was my own fault so I have no one to blame but myself.
It was touch and go up to that Guzma fight because of what I was getting in the Wonder Trade. From greatest to least is all the typings I had over all in this locke (I killed one encounter and missed out on two or three others).
Grass - 11
The grass member of my winning team of four was a Cradily. Early on in the locke I received a Lileep. Once I had Ancient Power and Giga Drain it finally pulled more than enough of it’s own weight!
Flying - 7
I had Vullaby for a while as stated earlier. Wingull eventually became its replacement once Vullaby tragically perished. I had Pelipper up till Kukui where Incineroar killed it off.
Water - 6
I went thru the trouble of getting a Feebas evolved only to have it die not long after in the Totem Salazzle battle. I’m still mad that Salazzle barely lived from that Waterium Z attack!
Milotic has a small replacement before Slowpoke in the form of a barely evolved Gyarados, but I’ll be damned if it wasn’t taken out by a Roggenrola whom got turn 5 Rock Blast (-1 attack, mind you since Gyarados has Intimidate as its ability)! I pretty much rejected any other Magikarp I received after that since I didn’t want to deal with that rock weakness again. Hence why I was mostly reluctant to use Pelipper.
I had a Slowpoke afterwards that I went thru more trouble to evolve into Slowking only to find out Gladion’s Type: Null had X-Scissor then pursuit and screamed as it killed poor Slowking!
From there on I really didn’t have any water options... besides Wingull so I was forced to take it...
There just weren’t any water options and water is one of the three top typings that have a plethra of numbers!
Steel - 5
Mawile was a Pokemon that I was forced to sacrifice in the Totem Wishiwashi battle. It was either Mawile or the entire team... It’s sacrifice was not in vain.
Another good Pokemon that died first to a Pursuit, from a Fearow no less, was Bronzor who had been a solid replacement for Mawile up until that point.
Bug, Normal, Psychic, Rock - 5
Fire - 4
I had a Vulpix that sadly died in the Totem Salazzle battle as well. I forgot Vullaby had Rock Tomb so Vulpix died for my forgetfulness.
My eventually back up fire Pokemon came in the form of Incineroar who also filled the dark typing I needed after losing Vullaby. Unfortunately, and I could only laugh at my own forgetfulness again, Incineroar died to Stealth Rocks since it was at maybe a quarter of its health.
Electric - 4
The third of the four survivors of the locke was an Ampharos. It was the coverage and tank I desperately needed. There were some close calls, like in the Totem Mimikyu battle, but I’m glad I went for something familiar~
Fighting - 4
Dark - 3
My only other option to Litten was a Poocheyena, and as much as I love that Pokemon, I needed a fire type or a dual type dark Pokemon.
Fairy - 3
Ghost - 3
With the Totem Lurantis battle around the corner and the death of Vullaby fresh I wanted extra coverage. I wasn’t sure if Cutiefly would be evolved in time for the battle or if Lileep could take a hit from Lurantis. A Gastly was sent to me and that quelled my worry. Luckily for me Cutiefly did evolve and one-shoted the Lurantis~! Gastly evolved sooner than I expected and Haunter was immediately evolved as well~! There were some close calls, but Gengar was the 4th surviving member~
Dragon - 2
Ice - 0
Overall I had a fun experience doing this. I love Wonder Trading and it was finally time I did a Wonderlocke. What made this harder than it needed to be was the fact that like 40% of my trades were grass types. I didn’t have much coverage or when I did I was extremely forgetful! I plan to redo another Wonderlocke real soon and maybe I’ll give USUM another go. Let’s hope I can actually take out Totem Araquanid this time~

Favorite and Least Favorite Typings
This is a list with all of the 18 types via Generation 7.
