Newest Sanders Sides "episode" is just an ad and that... irks me. I mean, I don't mind the fact that he made a video to advertise his plushies, that's somewhat normal.

But the fact that there's no indication that it's an ad is what gets me.

It's titled "Sanders Sides" just like any other, and Thomas did the same uploading joke that he does with every other video, and then you watch it and it's all to promote the plushies. With only a hint of plot...

I had fun watching it, I guess. Still got happy when Roman showed up. But I can't help but feel annoyed.

thomas isn’t your friend.

i get that you like him. maybe he got you through hard times. i get that it’s tough to remember this kinda thing. but you gotta keep saying it to yourself.

thomas isn’t your friend.

thomas doesn’t know you. he doesn’t have a vested interest in helping you. he won’t suddenly be your best bud, and nothing you can do will change that.

you cannot help him. you cannot make his day better. you cannot shield him from harm or criticism, because you cannot affect him. because he is not a baby who needs to be protected.

he is a grown man. he is a famous, cis, white grown man.

he is not being attacked. he is not being bullied. he is being held accountable because he is a grown man with a team of grown adults and he should do better.

i’m tired of seeing people rush to his defense when he’s criticized. i’m tired of seeing people devastated the moment he’s less than perfect. i’m tired of serious issues being called drama and discourse and just being mean.

thomas is a creator who has made mistakes. thomas has made mistakes. everyone makes mistakes, and that’s not to excuse his, but it’s to provide context. every person you know will let you down someday, because there is no one in this world that’s close to perfect.

and that’s not an attack on you. please don’t let yourself feel like you’re being criticized, too. you’re not. none of this is a reflection on you. you can still like tss, you are still be a good person, nobody is trying to hurt you. it’s okay.

thomas should not be your idol. thomas should not be your sole source of happiness. thomas should not be the most important person in your life. thomas should not be anything more than a creator you admire.

because even if you’ve decided he hasn’t let you down yet–if you’ve decided his mistakes aren’t that bad–one day, he’s gonna. one day he’s going to do something you personally don’t like. or one day you’ll find you can’t keep from criticizing him anymore.

and the longer you put that off, the longer you bury yourself in worship for him, the more it’s gonna hurt.

take a deep breath. please take a second to breathe. please take a second to think. please go outside, take breaks, take care of yourself. please give yourself time. 

separate yourself from the things you love. really examine how u think about ccs in your head. keep yourself from being hurt. thomas has no obligation to do that for you–you’re the one who keeps yourself safe.

so keep yourself safe and keep yourself honest.

thomas is not your friend.

There are currently 1,394,265 as of 1/11/22 

the fact that fandom is a space where unfinished works proliferate is something to be celebrated. where else can you start a novel and never finish it and still people read and engage with what you’ve done and share your interest in it. where else can we get to read the work of people who do not have the time or capacity or resources for commitment to long projects over long time. i don’t know if there’s a way to measure the total volume and proportion of unfinished and abandoned works on ao3, but i’d bet good money it’s a large majority of multichapter works, and do you know what would happen if fandom required all works to be finished? none of that great volume of work would exist! what a tremendous loss would that be! fandom’s permissiveness of unfinished work is one of its greatest strengths as a creative environment, productive for readers and liberating for writers, and if we better recognized that, if we stopped allowing the dominant discourse of unfinished WIPs to be about failure or betrayal or whatever, we would get more stories, not fewer, more story, not less.

I have decided to do requests

I don’t know the etiquette but:

I won’t do Remrom (obviously) but I also won’t do poly ships with both Roman and Remus in them. I’ve read too many fics where the line between them is ambiguous and I worry about doing the same.

My favorite ships (i will do others probably but I’ll be more inclined to these):

I will do platonic ships.

also. very weird…? complaint? but i hate when like. people who’re BIG fans of the found family trope try of push found families into like. a very stereotypical family trope. like don’t get me wrong, of course you can think that like. someone who is not your birth father is your father. but like. when people try to make every found family “ok she’s the mom and he’s the dad and she’s the older sister and he’s the younger brother” it just gets like. weird.
