draft I made of the prologue while i was stupid and impatient 2 plan b4 doing anything
erm.... awkward......
yeah I made this draft becuz i wanted 2 test out my writing skills so... i wasnt rlly that honest hehehehe!!!
anywats. I am DEFINITELY not keeping this in the final rewrite ^_^
The sun had fallen, and the dark night spilled across the clear sky that shone above the RiverClan stone hollow. The moonlight was seeping through the gaps around the woven moss arranging the walls of the nursery, illuminating the pelts of the cats that were inside through the den.
A massive, longhaired pale brown molly was tucked neatly around her bramble nest, with her kits huddling close around her side for warmth as the cool breeze crept along their pelts.
A silver kitten wearily flailed his paws around the air, though he was still fast asleep as his mother’s round tail was circled neatly around the kits.
Another one; a tortoiseshell kitten pressed her head against her mother’s belly, her eyes closed with her stomach slowly rising up, and lowering down.
The last one—the runt of the litter—was a tiny light gray kitten, who huddled herself close around the ending corner of her mother’s tail. Her eyes were wide open, with her gaze drifting up at the roof of the nursery.
The little molly couldn’t sleep. Even when she tried to squeeze her eyelids shut, and use the technique of counting down so many pieces of prey from the pile to bore her to sleep, she still couldn’t even get a moment of rest!
Suddenly, the comforting pelt of her mother ruffled beside her, trembling slightly as she had realized that the pale brown molly was lifting her head away from the bramble nest it had rested on.
Perfect, she could ask her mother what to do! Her mother always helped her and her littermates with things like this, so maybe she could fix something about her sleeping problem.
The little molly-kit hopped her hind-legs over her mother’s flank, scrabbling across her glossy pelt that was damp from the swim with her father, Jayclaw. He was strong, and the fastest dry-hunter in RiverClan. He could catch any mouse or shrew without messing up in any way.
As the small little kitten reached the top of her mothers’ flank, she stared intently at the distracted gaze of her striking, pale amber eyes. They glittered majestically as the light climbed up and up to her head, and that was when the kitten realized with a jolt that the nurser was eyeing her.
“C—Curlfeather…?” The little kitten let the words spill out of her throat, even if she felt so guilty that she wasn’t sleeping, even when Curlfeather had told her to do so. “I—I can’t sleep…”
Curlfeather’s pale amber gaze softened with love and warmth as she glanced at her kit, her ears flicked as a cold breeze ruffled around her pelt. “Is that so, Frostkit?” She asked. “Hm… I have an idea,” her tail flicked across the bramble nest. “Come on, lay next to me.”
Frostkit, without hesitation, staggered awkwardly down from her mother, and her forepaws slipped as soon as she reached the bramble nest, but Curlfeather’s round tail softened her fall. She immediately sprang to her tiny paws, and laid down with her paws tucked underneath her chest.
Frostkit leaned her head around Curlfeather’s flank. Her mother gazed lovingly down at the small kitten, and then she opened her mouth, starting to speak. “Long ago, before there was RiverClan, ThunderClan, WindClan, and ShadowClan, there were three clans ruled by the fiercest warriors in clan history.” She lifted her head, her eyes frozen around the ceiling of the nursery. “There was LionClan, ruled by Goldenstar; LeopardClan, ruled by Swiftstar; and finally TigerClan, ruled by Shadestar.
“They didn’t look anything like the cats we see today,” Curlfeather continued, while Frostkit’s eyes shot wide with astonishment. “Goldenstar had a huge golden-brown mane that dangled around his head. Cats say it looked like the sun!”
Frostkit couldn’t even imagine the strange description Lionstar was given, a huge mane around his head that looked like the sun? It just didn’t make any sense to the little molly.
“All the cats back then were also really big!” Curlfeather purred. “They were the size of the lake.” Frostkit flinched closer to her mother, fear striking through her heart as she thought of the giant, scary cats. Curlfeather lowered her head down, and gave Frostkit’s head a reassuring lick. “Don’t worry, those kinds of cats aren’t alive anymore. And, even if they were, they wouldn’t hurt you.”
Frostkit felt relief surge through her tiny body, and leaned her head back.
Curlfeather then continued to talk about Goldenstar, Shadestar, and Swiftstar, and the stories that came along with it. One story was of a TigerClan warrior who grew bitter of LionClan cats’ manes, and decided to steal a kitten, who was the daughter of Goldenstar. Another was of a LionClan warrior named Sunpelt, who had been granted a wish by a massive snake who was called Mouthclaw, which brought the snakes to the forest territory.
After a while, Frostkit let out a yawn. She felt her blue eyes grow weary, so she laid her head down, her chin right above her paws. She blinked slowly a few times… before finally letting them fully close.
When Frostkit fluttered her eyes open, she didn’t find herself in the dark, yet decorative nursery. She couldn’t feel the bramble nest that was woven with ferns and moss, but instead felt a hard texture below her.
What surrounded her was a plain, white void. Nothing else appeared, not even the sky and clouds. She rose to her small paws, her head turning back-and-forth, but she could see nothing that was beside her. She finally looked over at the middle of the void… And a figure stood there on their paws, their ears flicking as they stared distractedly at nothing.
When Frostkit’s eyelids squinted, she spotted the pelt-color of the strange warrior. Gray. They were also long-haired, and when she narrowed her eyes around his back, she spotted brown spots layering over the gray.
She widened her eyes. She recognized this tom. “Jayclaw!”
Jayclaw pricked his ears as her squeak rang around the void, and turned his head over at the kitten. He gave her a gentle smile, that was strange. “Frostkit… take care of your siblings while I’m gone, okay?”
Gone? Where was her father going? “What do you mean?” She chirped, her voice slightly wavering.
Jayclaw didn’t answer, his gaze lit with something as they froze around the kitten. He turned his head away from the molly… and he began to move his paws down the white space.
“Father, come back!” She yowled, and then abruptly, her paws were racing down the space, trying to reach for the gray tom. He was still padding down the space, not even bothering to look back at his kit.
She skidded to a stop, letting out breathless pants. How was she going to get to him? Her paws were too small to run that fast.
So she watched. Watched as darkness was suddenly misting around the tom’s surroundings, and was swarming slowly around Frostkit. She let out a squeak of fear as it kept fading around the clearing.
Jayclaw was disappearing into the pitch blackness, his tail eventually vanishing as he continued to drag his paws down the void.
Frostkit blinked, sitting still in the middle of the black clearing, her gaze flitting around the void as she tried to look for anybody else.
“Jayclaw?”
The sun had risen high above the gray clouds, the sky was a dim gray that had been slightly lit up by the sunlight that radiated from the yellow orb. The ShadowClan hollow was now filled with cats; senior warriors giving tasks to the apprentices, Puddleshine, the herbalist, teaching Shadowpaw about herbs, and hunters and warriors being sent to patrols by the deputy.
Sunpaw was sitting down around a flat rock that was beside the apprentices’ den, which was underneath a straggly bramble thicket, the entrance made into a slim gap that apprentices had to squeeze through. Sunpaw flexed her claws, which had been sharpened when they scratched the smooth rock below her.
Sunpaw was waiting patiently for her mentor or a senior warrior to give her a daily task, since she had nothing better to do, other than wait for her mentor so she could train.
Beside her, a brown tabby molly slid neatly through the gap of the apprentices’ den, squeezing past the bramble thickets that were reinforced around the small den. She emerged from the straggly bramble thicket, shaking her pelt out, and as she did leaves drifted out from her longhaired fur.
“Hey, Lightpaw!” Sunpaw purred, clambering down from the flat rock. Lightpaw had been her best friend since they were both first made apprentices, and they met during Sunpaw’s ceremony.
Lightpaw nudged Sunpaw’s shoulder lightly with her muzzle. “Hey, Sunpaw,” she meowed, sitting down with her tail curled around her forepaws. “Hollowpaw is still asleep, like the toad he is. And Spirepaw is gone, I don’t know where he is!”
“He’s probably doing one of the daily tasks,” Sunpaw guessed, or at least, she hoped. When she and her brothers went to their first gathering, Spirepaw had been talking an awful lot with a SkyClan warrior who was called Fringewhisker. She really didn’t hope he snuck out just so they could meet her.
She shook her head, she was over-exaggerating! Sure, he had broken the warrior code a few times, but they’d never go as far as to fall in love with a cat from another clan!
Sunpaw sprang to her paws, though she stood still beside her friend. “Do you think we’re gonna go on patrol today?”
“I mean, probably,” Lightpaw hunched her shoulders in a shrug. “But what I am really hoping for is to train with Stonewing, I really wanna learn more battle moves!”

and that's it lol, pretty abrupt right????
anyways, as I have said before; this won't be in the final product... I will be keeping elements of this draft, but most of them will be removed x3

Oh yeah, and btw; Frostpaw doesn't take refuge in ShadowClan, she takes it in WindClan.
ShadowClan being the go-to for refugees is just... stupid, imo. It doesn't give the clans a chance to shine, and Frostpaw doesn't even bother to form relationships with the cats there (other than Shadowsight and I guess Puddleshine ??)
So she takes refuge in WindClan when she has nowhere to go, and bonds with Whistlepaw there. Whistlepaw can introduce her to her giant friend group of her siblings and the breezexheather kits, and help her warmup to the warriors after her mistrust of older cats because of the whole Curlfeather & Splashtail thing!
Frostpaw and Whistlepaw also develop crushes on each other. I don't know what to tell you bud, they seem pretty gay
An idea about Whistlepaw's naming cerenony
I've just thought about this so bare with me:
So I've been debating what Whistlepaw's full herbalist name should be... Until I had a devious little idea...
(this is a sort-of snippet?? This rewrite is still in the planning stages so um. things might change)
Whistlepaw was nervous, yet excited about FINALLY getting her full name. She had been waiting for what seemed like years.
Kestrelwing stands in front of her, announcing her new status as a full-herbalist to the spirits of the moors.
Kestrelwing looks proudly down at Whistlepaw, who had been fidgeting during the whole speech.
"Are you ready?" He whispers, his voice as gentle as the breeze.
Whistlepaw looks up at Kestrelwing, hesitating for a moment... before nodding. "Yes. I am."
Kestrelwing smiles. "Then you shall recieve your full-name as Whistlesong, named after your special connection with the spirits that whisper to you--"
"Actually," Whistlepaw surprisingly interrupts. "I... would like to pick my own suffix."
Kestrelwing widens his eyes, tipping his head. "...Okay, you have my permission." He finally says, intrigued.
Whistlepaw sighs, clearing her throat before finally pouring out all of the words she'd been wanting to say after that whole debacle...
"I... I just wanted to thank you for everything you've done for me---for putting up with me, for letting me be your apprentice---and I know you've picked this name out since I trained under your wing... but after everything that has happened... I don't think I can have that as my name..."
Whistlepaw swallows, remembering her time in WindClan with her friend... Frostpaw. She remembers everything they've fought through, being by eachother's side... She can't just forget all of that.
She wants to remember it forever.
"...I'd like to change my name to Whistlefrost."
----------------------------------------------
So uh... That's my take on her ceremony !! I hope you like it, I've been trying to decide her name for WEEKS so uhhh. im happy

Alright, I have stated that Nightheart would be replaced in a seperate post, so I made a poll with all the possible candidates!
So some of you might be wondering; why am I replacing Nightheart? Because it could get in the way of his character development and story.
Anyways, here are the shortened versions of reasons why they could be useful during Frostpaw's journey:
Shadowsight: pretty obvious on why he could replace Nightheart. He and Frostpaw could bond over their somewhat similar trauma, and could act like a sort of brother-figure to the molly.
Whistlepaw: I am leaning towards Whistlepaw because they are girlfriends, and I want these idiots to realize that!! in all seriousness I would like to explore their relationship and make them interact much more often
One of Frostpaw's siblings: So I can explore their personalities and dynamics more, and so I can make her interact with them more.

If you want context, it's in my last post ^^
What time is it... poll time!!!!!!!!
So I have picked out all the chars who could possibly become the new SkyClan protag in my rewrite.
While I am looking forward to Beetlepaw (or Beepaw), I don't want too much apprentice P.O.Vs... So I'm deciding by making a poll! ^_^

Sorry but I am making A Starless Clan longer. Maybe 8 or 9 books minimum.
I got this idea from @/Lynxskip, who had the idea of making arcs longer or shorter!
Anyways, a huge reason for this is because A Starless Clan is not an arc that needs six books. It would make it too fast-paced, especially with the 20-30 chapter format.
A second reason for this change is because this arc has 5 PROTAGS; Frostpaw, Finchlight & Nightheart, Sunbeam, Whistlepaw, and Beepaw (or Beetlepaw, Wrenflight so there aren't too much apprentice protags... I'm still workshopping okay!!!!!!!) It would be criminal of me to only have SIX BOOKS with FIVE PROTAGS!!!!!!!!!!!

OMGGG YESS I'VE HAD THIS IDEA SINCE THE BEGINNING!!
I already thought out who the WindClan protag would be (Whistlepaw obviously. I mean, who else?) But I am STUMPED on the SkyClan protag :/
A Starless Clan: an idea!
----
I saw a post the other day saying something about Wind and how WindClan probably won't be important. So, I got to thinking..
I could have protags in every Clan! Now, It would get difficult but, how it might work: The book with the Clan name (ex. River) will have a RiverClan protag throughout the whole book. The protags from the other Clans will still be important characters and will be shown many times!
Possible protags for the books:
RiverClan -> Frostpaw
ThunderClan -> Nightheart
WindClan -> Whistlepaw
ShadowClan -> Spireclaw or Sunbeam
SkyClan -> Needleclaw?
Now of course that's just possible options, I'm gonna make OCs and they might take some of those cats places!
Two more ideas I thought of:
This arc will be more that six books, I don't know how long I'll make it at the moment. I feel like this arc shouldn't be wrapped up so quickly, maybe ten books? I might also do the same with other arcs, make them longer or shorter!
2. After the defeat of Splashtail, RiverClan is left leaderless yet again. No cat really steps up, so Mothwing does! Mothwing becomes leader!
