Sooo basically Elizabeth has severe ASPD (antisocial personality disorder) and she feels absolutely no care for another human life. As terrified as she was of the consequences of her murder, she had no remorse for the murder itself.
She realizes she feels this was towards literally everyone except for her brothers (and eventually Cassidy. This takes a while but quite literally, Cassidy is the only one of Beth's friends that she feels true care for. Everyone else is passive).
Nick also has ASPD, though the symptoms don't show until they're older. It's the root of his psychosis and, similarly to how Beth only cares about 3 people, Nick only cares about a selected group and would quite literally kill for them. A bit freakish for a 3 year old.
Elizabeth Afton has ASPD, also known as antisocial personality disorder. She genetically inherited this from William, but his is a lot better masked and hidden. Hers is obvious, direct, and dangerous.
Dangerous, meaning once she murdered someone. And at the ripe age of 13 too.
She didn't know what she was doing, it was mostly impulse, but he was making her so angry. She couldn't stop herself. It happened so fast, she didn't even notice the knife in her hand until he was already on the floor and his eyes were glazed over.
They were outside in the woods, just near her house. So she dragged him to the basement, shoved his body into the furnace (took quite a while as he was much bigger than her), and spent the next hour desperately scrubbing her dress with warm water over the mop bucket and bordering on sobbing, but at the same time not feeling anything at all. She didn't even notice the time fly by until she heard her father come through the front door. She froze in terror as he walked by the living room, taking in her trembling state trying desperately to scrub off the blood covering her dress and spread across the carpet. Neither of them said anything for a minute, Beth's mind was going 100mph, horrified that she'd be sent to prison and never see her brothers again. Would they even love her the same?
Then William spoke.
"Use cold water, not hot. And use hydrogen peroxide to clean up the carpet. It's in the medicine cabinet."
Then he just walked away.
Elizabeth's stood there a bit longer, not sure how to process, before her body started to move on its own. She used cold water and hydrogen peroxide to get the stains out of the carpet and her clothes, she wiped up any other stains and checked on the body to make sure it was fully burning. He was 17, everyone would assume he ran away to live in Vegas or something. And William would obviously not tell on her. Problem solved.
But Elizabeth was always a thinker. She thought a lot. Always thought of consequences, risks, results. So the fact that she didn't think about *any of this* when this happened, that she just acted, it was freeing. She just did something horrible and got away with it. But it was also terrifying. She did something horrible! Did she actually get away with it? Or was it just a matter of time?
These worries ran through her head as she sat on the living room floor for another two hours, unmoving after changing from her dress to pajamas.
The only thing that snapped her out of her mind break was the sound of Mike groaning as he rummaged through the cabinets for a baby bottle. When did they get back?
Mike walked in the room, bottle in one hand and little baby Nicky in the other; not even a year old yet. He spotted Beth and his face changed into concern as he took in her hunched over, stunned form. She tried hiding it, but she's never been good at lying to him. He knows her better than she knows herself.
So he sits down cross-legged in front of her and adjusts Nick to lie across his lap. Then he looks at her and asks her what's wrong.
She looks away and shakes her head, and he takes the hint. This is different, much worse than he's ever seen her, and he's scared.
Beth looks at him, Dead in the eyes. Mike has never liked eye contact, so he focuses on her nose as she continues looking. It seems like she's analyzing him. 3 whole minutes of staring and silence, before she finally speaks.
"I would never hurt you."
It's not sickly sweet or condescending like you'd expect a sentence like this to sound. Instead it sounds like a statement, like she's telling herself.
"I believe you," he says.
Then her gaze drops to Nicky, happily sucking at his bottle in Mike's lap. She reaches out.
"Can I hold him?"
Mike looks nervous. "I don't know, you're shaking a lot. Is it a good idea?"
"Please? Please let me hold him." She sounds desperate. And he trusts her, so he does.
She adjusts her legs so Nick would lie vertically on her thighs, facing up towards her. She gently grasps his hands and stares deep into his eyes, analyzing like she did to Mike. He watches closely, and Beth stares, but longer and more focused than with Mike. But then she whispers,
"I wouldn't hurt you either. I wouldn't hurt neither of you. I'll never do it."
Then suddenly she looks up to Mike, and it's like the whole atmosphere changed. Her eyes and face are happier, her voice got chipper, she starts talking about her cool science project as she gently messes with Nicky's hands, making him giggle. Now she's acting normal.
Mike asks what that was all about.
He doesn't get an answer.

(Trial&Error AU)
Charlie's death was revolutionary for William. Sure it was an impulsive, in-the-moment action that could've gone horribly wrong, but it didn't.
If anything, it went absolutely right.
You see, ever since college, William has had a morbid facination with the concept of ghosts and hauntings, and he believed if he did his research right, he could figure out how to transfer his own soul in a never-dying body and live forever. Literally solve immortality! So when William got word from a hysterical Henry about Charlie's murder and how he found the destroyed Puppet on top of her, he payed little mind. Until Henry mentioned how the Puppet's features were somehow changed and it was still moving, despite being broken.
William was digging his whole career for the key to immortality, but he only got a step forward with this newfound discovery. He had to test it more. And thus, came the death of Andrew merely a few weeks later.
William decided to make this one harsh, make it hurt. Charlie was hiding out and staying dormant in Puppet, he couldn't do anything with that. He needed this one to be active, to be angry. So he stuffed the little nine year old inside the Fredbear suit, with the endoskeleton still inside. This makes the springlock trip all the more painful, as it's latching your body to a metal stature.
And thus led to the discovery of remnant. All that negative energy, pain, and agony attaching itself to the animatronic; William took the Fredbear endoskeleton (Andrew remaining inside the suit) and melted it down into a little purple goo. The agony, in physical form. Remnant. He needed to start testing it. He injected it into an endoskeleton, and saw how it amplified everything. It made it stronger, faster, more aggressive, more perceptive, more aware. Very aware. Too aware.
This was incredible! If it could change a machine in such drastic and revolutionary ways, I wonder how it would affect humans...
I guess we know why William wanted kids.

(Trial & Error AU)
Cassidy Borque was what you'd call an odd child. Not quite weird, but she was confusing.
She dressed in mostly black, but didn't quite fit a style category. She was well known in her school, but not quite popular nor an outcast. She was more scary than anything, kids would go to her for a shield if they were being bothered. And she didn't seem to like any kids except for a few.
Maybe some of her fear factor came from her close friendship with the Afton twins.
She was 15, like them, but she'd been around them since they were 7. She was best friends with Elizabeth and would be there to clean up her wounds after a particularly bad fight. She would spend hours diving through junkyards to collect materials for Michael's projects. (He did pay her for the efforts, but she was more interested in what he was making), and she once kicked a kid in the balls for trying to take Nicky's Fredbear plush.
So she was close to them. Unfortunately a little too close. Because her care for them ultimately became her downfall.
All she was doing was waiting at their house for Elizabeth to get snacks from the nearby corner store. She should've known better than to snoop, because she found something on the kitchen table that William irresponsibly left unattended, next to Nicky's Fredbear plush. A simple sheet of paper. But it was with this paper that Cassidy got a grasp of all of William's sins and twisted desires. His horrid plans and motives.
What's worse is she got caught.
~
Possessing a plushie is not the ideal way to go through your afterlife. Cassidy must have really bad luck.
At least she has good mobility and can keep an eye on her friends. Keep them safe. Hopefully. For as long as she can

A couple facts about C.C/Nicky in my Trial & Error AU.
Pre-Death
- Elizabeth and Mike are twins, both 15, while Nicky (C.C) is 3.
-Nicky is nonverbal autistic. It is selective, so they know how to talk, they just choose not to. Sometimes they'll speak in eerie whispers (on purpose to creep ppl out) to people they don't like specifically. And since they love their siblings, the twins have hardly ever heard them speak. Nicky mostly communicates in body language and a yes/no/unsure button toy. Sometimes they'll even babble incoherently if they're feeling excited/stressed.
-Adding on to the whispering to people they don't like, if either of their siblings has said or done something to make them upset (as caring as the twins usually are, they're still siblings and still assholes) they'd go in the culprit's room at night and freak them out by talking to them in the dark. And since the twins have never seen Nick talk, they always think they're going crazy.
-Nicky has an oral fixation. They have a pacifier that they use most of the time, but without it there's quite a bit of biting. When they're feeling underwhelmed and need stimulation they'll just find something to chew on, and it doesn't help that biting is their love language and their teeth are quite sharp. You'll see the twins or Cassidy with a lot of indents and scars on their skin from this habit. Only real way to make them stop is to find their pacifier.
-Intersex because I said so
-Would you believe me if I said they've committed tax fraud before
-Elizabeth taught them to cry their way out of consequences and they accidentally got someone arrested through this
-Sees William as the man who pays for their stuff, nothing more
-They go to a babysitter when the twins are in school, and this babysitter is Jeremy Fitzgerald's adult sister, Autumn Fitzgerald.
-They're really smart and really well-developed mentally, so they were gonna be put in school early the year they turned 4.
-Though they died a mere week before their first day so- whoops 🤷.
-Fredbear's was built and shut down a few years before Nick's birth, so the most Nick saw of Fredbear was through the Fredbear & Friends TV show and old VHS tapes. It was still their favorite animatronic.
Post Death
-Due to Fredbear's being shut down before Nick was born, Nick didn't die due to the prank. Though their death was somewhat similar.
-Nick shares Fredbear with 5 other souls; Cassidy, Michael Brooks (TSE), Andrew (various FF books), Kelsey (FF: The New Kid), and Devon (FF: The New Kid).
-The Nightmares have a similar purpose here to canon, but long after Nick died, they found the old remains and managed to hijack the robots, so they're now able to use what William built against him.
-Elizabeth has had to fight them for the key to the explosives cabinet in Mike's office once.
-Even when in the massive form of Fredbear they always want to sit in the shopping cart.
-The pacifier followed them to the afterlife, and so did that goddamn oral fixation.

(Trial&Error AU)
Michael Aaron Afton is the eldest of his siblings, and very possibly the most exhausted.
He's always been a hard worker. He's very strong, both physically and mentally. When he'd end up in the hospital cause his mother would forget about his allergies, when he was forced to take care of a newborn with Elizabeth when they were only 12, and when Elizabeth would have violent outbursts and attack someone. He'd always be the mediator, he'd always be the one to keep it together.
And his hard working followed him to his career.
Robotics has been his special interest ever since he was introduced to Foxy the Pirate when he was little. So he started small, taking apart and putting clocks back together, and putting stuffed animal skins over his old robotic toys. Then his father noticed, it's probably the one thing he noticed about Mike. So William introduced him to Henry, and started training him to take up the company.
Elizabeth was also involved, but in a different way. Elizabeth was very business aware, an extrovert, and she specialized in understanding people and socialization. Just like their father. While Mike was the opposite, he took up more heavy-lifting and material knowledge, and he was very introverted. Just like Henry.
So Mike would take up robotics and learn all other helpful skills to keep himself going as long as possible (lock picking to get quicker access to materials, wound stitching in case of a workplace accident, sewing & painting for designing, etc) and would teach his siblings if they ever asked. Of course he would, he'd always help out his siblings.
Even if the late-night designing and building would shift to going days without sleep, this skill of his would keep them alive! He can make money and support them all when he's an adult. They won't have to rely on their father and they could get out of this shithole as fast as possible with this!
Elizabeth is getting tired of carrying his unconscious body to his bed repeatedly.

(Trial&Error AU)
Elizabeth Rachelle Afton was an extraordinary girl. She was beautiful, clever, and quite social. She was a people's person, and excellent at understanding how others think.
She was also very prone to violence and aggression.
She was a girl's girl, the one who'd protect her female classmates from assholes and beat them black and blue if needed (God knows those martial arts lessons from elementary paid off). Unfortunately the aggression got to her head. She was easy to get riled up and would commonly need an outlet. She did more martial arts, she took up knife throwing, and she'd scavenge and heavylift in junkyards when her brother needed materials for his robots. God knows it wasn't enough, and she'd use people being jerks as an excuse to let her feelings out on. The adrenaline rush was fueling.
The most concerning thing about Elizabeth isn't the violence though. No, it's her lack of care. Not an ounce of empathy behind those harsh green eyes when she'd stand over her victim.
I don't think her brothers cared much either. Neither of them were even remotely as violent as her, so their nonchalance when she'd come home covered in blood that wasn't her own came as a shock. It wasn't out of fear of her, though. No, she would never dare hurt her brothers. They're the only people who accommodate to her, and understand her need for an outlet. Michael is her twin, he could take her if the situation came to it. But he was never violent, he always knew how to calm her down and ease her rage. And Nicky was just 3, she could never stoop that low just because she felt violent.
They could never fully understand her, but they would at least try to. And that said something to her.
God have mercy on anyone who would try to hurt either of them, though. She would kill for her brothers.
I'm looking at you William

(Trial&Error AU)
Nicolas Evan Afton is clever beyond his years.
He also hated his father.
Since he was a baby he's had a firm grasp on reality, much sooner than any baby has. He was smart, he was insightful, he was aware. Far more aware than a 3 year old should be.
That self-awareness is both a blessing, and a painful curse. Because that means he would look at his siblings and know they were struggling. And he was too young, too small to do anything.
Since he was born, his main supporters have been his older siblings. Michael and Elizabeth; twins and aged 15, have taught him and cared for him every second. He forgot he even had a father, considering that man was barely even there.
Elizabeth made him breakfast, walked with him to his babysitter's before she went to school, took him to the grocery store and library. Michael would make him dinner, was there whenever he woke up in the middle of the night, would fix his broken toys and they both would teach him any little skill he wanted to learn, no questions asked. What did his father ever teach him? William would forget his goddamn name, he didn't care about him.
It was Mike's name put down in the guardian contact list when Nick was put in school 2 years early. It was Elizabeth who took him to the park and got him ice cream when he had a bad day. They were his parents more than anything.
To have the blessing of intelligence is to have the curse of self-awareness. It was with this self-awareness that Nicky quickly understood why exactly his absent father was the one between his parents that wanted kids. It was with this self-awareness that he understood why his mother went missing 3 days after his birth. It was with this self-awareness that he understood.
Nicolas Evan Afton was clever beyond his years.
And Nicolas Evan Afton hated his father.

A lot of people: *argue whether Elizabeth or C.C is the middle child*
Fewer, cooler people: *make C.C and Elizabeth twins*
Me, a god beyond all comprehension: *makes Elizabeth twins with MIKE*

Welcome to the Trial & Error AU
Tumblr media
♤ This is Apothecary, but you can call me Sage. My pronouns are they/them, and this blog is meant to help develop my art & writing skills.♤
♤I had another blog (called Tawneybee) that this was intended for, but I ended up turning it into a repost blog, which I will NOT do for this one.♤
♤Rules for asks:
• No NSFW or sexual/suggestive asks or comments. Nearly every character is underage anyway so if I see you making any creepy comments about them you will be blocked. Gore asks are safe (within reason).
• Please don't ask for direct physical interactions with characters (like asking if you can hug them), and also don't ask about the posting schedule. I am very unorganized and my motivation hates me so posting will not be regular.
• No RPing or OC inserts please. Also no shipping. I have nothing against shipping, it's just mostly not present in this AU.
• I do accept and appreciate ideas, suggestions, and constructive criticism. Even if I may not use it, I love hearing other's thoughts and opinions on my content.
• If you recognize me from youtube, no you don't.
♤AU Facts and Details:
This is an AU that heavily diverges from canon. Most of it is not canon-accurate actually. The plot, the storyline, character ages, relations, personalities are all non-canon or original. Honestly this AU is mostly self-indulgent. I will include canon aspects though.
Facts about this AU:
• The plot is basically "Dead kids live together in a massive warehouse and start collecting other dead kids like Pokémon" or smt like that.
• This is Afton kids/dead kids centered. William is currently not available for asks as he's not in the current storyline yet. This will change when he's added.
• Afton kids are very different from canon. Micheal and Elizabeth are twins, and both 15 years old. C.C is a 3 year old toddler, and his name is Nicolas/Nicky.
• No good dad William here. In the Trial universe we hate this man and want to toast marshmallows over his burning body.
• Again, very self-indulgent, so the Afton kids have a good relationship with each other since I'm soft like that.
• Deaths are a lot different. For example, Mike dies when he is 15 and possessed the Puppet rather than getting scooped. Beth and Nick possess Circus Baby and Golden Freddy as usual, but their death events are different from canon.
• There is an inclusion of Fazbear Frights characters, but only specific ones as I can't fit all of the book lore into this AU.
• The plot is specifically thought out, but do not expect realism from me. I love to bullshit minor details. No, there's no explanation why these kids from the 80's have 2020's humor, they're just like that.
AU has its own tag
Characters currently available for asks:
~ Micheal Afton

Important update to my Trial & Error AU!!
I am creating a new blog just for that AU. I've found that this blog is starting to become a repost blog and would be hard to keep organized while I post my actual content, so I've decided to make a whole separate blog purely for Trial & Error AU content. There would be no reblogging any posts on there that aren't related to the AU. And it doubles as an ask blog too! So if you follow me for my Trial & Error content I suggest moving over to this blog instead.
