“In one moment, we see young grunts engaged in heavy combat, carrying wounded comrades to casevac choppers as rounds clap overhead. In the next, they smoke pot from an empty Pringles can that they’ve MacGyvered into a bong.”
My friends and I all want to see this film, but we can’t find it anywhere. If anyone knows where I can watch, stream  or download, let me know!

New US Army Gear for 2018
New guns
After a turbulent year, the Army finally began fielding the M17 and M18 pistols picked up for the new Modular Handgun System program at the beginning of 2017. The branch rolled out the new sidearms to soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, on Nov. 28, with plans to issue the weapon Army-wide over the next 10 months, beginning with team leaders.
Tumblr media
The Pentagon’s overview on its gear and tech programs in 2017, conducted by the Office of the Director of Operational Test and Evaluation and released earlier in January 2018, indicated that both the XM17 and XM18 pistols demonstrated a series of persistent problems, including accidental discharge, ejecting live ammunition, and relatively frequent stoppages when firing ammunition encased in a full metal jacket. Even worse, the report recommends the Army engineer some fixes “upon identification of the root cause” of the ejection issue — a statement that indicates the branch hasn’t yet identified the source of the issue.
But it’s not just new pistols rolling out to soldiers. A spokesman for the Army’s Project Executive Office Soldier told Task & Purpose that the branch has upgraded a total of 241,361 M4s to M4A1s, half of the roughly 483,000 upgrades envisioned under the service’s M4 Product Improvement Program. The Army plans to have all those upgrades completed by the end of 2018.

New protective gear
As of November, Army officials planned on rolling out the new Modular Scalable Vest (MSV), a major component of the next-generation Soldier Protection System, by summer 2018.   The MSV is part of a torso and extremity protection system (TEP) comes with a scalable vest, ballistic combat shirt, pelvic protection system, and battle belt; altogether, the MSV is a whole 5 pounds lighter than the current improved outer tactical vest — and it’s more adjustable to new mission requirements.
The Army is still working on an Integrated Head Protection System to replace the existing Enhanced Combat Helmet — it and likely will be until 2020 at the earliest. But the branch did unveil spiffy new eyewear: Transition Combat Eye Protection, glasses that automatically switch to a darker or brighter tint, depending on light levels.

New Iron Man Armor?
Unfortunately this year, no, no. U.S. Special Operations Command said in February that it planned on actually testing the Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit (TALOS), a 21st century suit of electronic armor lovingly referred to as the “Iron Man suit.” But given the DoD’s track record with futuristic moon-shot projects, chances are the only next-gen suit soldiers will don in 2018 will be the pink-and-greens. (new old style dress uniforms)

Luckily I live in California! We have the highest MINIMUM sales tax rate.
No, really, it’s simple;
California’s state and local governments levy a tax on retail sales of tangible goods. This tax has two parts:
Sales Tax on Retailers. When California retailers sell tangible goods, they generally owe sales tax to the state. Retailers typically add sales tax to the price they charge customers and show it as a separate item on sales receipts.
Use Tax on Buyers. State law requires buyers to pay a use tax on certain purchases of tangible goods if the retailer does not pay California sales tax. Some internet purchases from out–of–state retailers fall into this category. The use tax rate is the same as the sales tax rate.
Detailed Description of the Sales & Use Tax Rate
Overall, our tax rate is 7.25% -- Below is a break-down of how this 7.25% is used, including rate, jurisdiction, purpose and authority.
Tumblr media
PLUS... The tax rate in each California area may be higher than 7.25% depending on the district taxes that apply there.
Tax Districts
While the statewide tax rate is 7.25%. In most areas of California, local jurisdictions have added district taxes that increase the tax owed by a seller. Those district tax rates range from 0.10% to 1.00%. Some areas may have more than one district tax in effect. Sellers are required to report and pay the applicable district taxes for their taxable sales and purchases.

What Is Taxed?
Sales Tax Applies to Tangible Goods
California levies its sales tax on the retail sale of tangible personal property. State law defines these terms as follows:
“Retail sale” excludes goods that businesses purchase for resale. It also generally excludes materials that go into products.
“Tangible” generally refers to physical materials that people can touch. Products that are not tangible—such as services or digital goods—are not subject to sales tax.
“Personal property” is movable from one place to another. Real property—land and things that are attached to land, like buildings—is not subject to sales tax.
California’s sales tax applies to a retailer’s sales to most buyers, including individuals, businesses, nonprofit and religious organizations, and California’s state and local governments. However, sales to some buyers, such as the federal government, are exempt from tax.
Sales Taxes on Discounted Goods. When a retailer sells a taxable good at a discount—through a club card, a retailer’s coupon, or an online “deal of the day”—the retailer generally calculates sales taxes based on the product’s discounted price, not its full retail price. However, for some types of discounts, sales tax applies to the full retail price before the discount is applied. Specifically, if the customer compensates the retailer for the discount—for example, by trading in a used car—then sales tax generally applies to the full retail price, not the discounted price. In addition, if the discount is available only through a bundled transaction (such as a mobile phone purchased together with a service contract), then sales tax applies to the full unbundled price of the taxable good (the full retail price of the mobile phone).
When Is Use Tax Due?
Sometimes, California consumers buy tangible goods from retailers who do not collect California sales tax. Those consumers generally owe use tax. For example, use tax is due in these common situations:
Bringing Out–of–State Purchases Into California. Californians purchase tangible goods while they are traveling outside of the state. When they use those goods in California, they owe California use tax.
Making Online Purchases From Out of State. Sales tax applies to tangible goods Californians purchase over the Internet. If the seller does not collect the tax on a taxable item (possibly because the seller is not located in California), the consumer owes use tax.
Buying a Car From a Private Party. Individuals often sell used cars directly to other individuals. When this happens, the purchaser owes use tax. (Individuals who frequently sell used cars, however, are required to register as a retailer with the BOE and pay sales taxes.)
As discussed later in this report, many Californians are not familiar with the use tax, and compliance with this tax is uneven.
And so on and so forth, blah, blah, blah...

No disrespect to the Scouts! I should have put the Army quotes around it, something like, ‘According to the Army perspective, the Boy Scout is “retreating”, ie; showing a flag that “gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer walks backwards.”
Essentially it was just one of the first examples I found of a side by side comparison on Google.

Fun fact: all US flags must be worn so that the star field is facing forward - as one US Army Colonel once told me, “Because we are always moving forward, and never retreating.”
Tumblr media
When people ask about it, they think of the right shoulder flag as “backwards”, cause the star field is on the upper right.

Below, a US Army soldier is advancing, The Boy Scout is retreating.

Keep this in mind as you watch TV shows and movies. It kinda shows how much the wardrobe and production staff have done their homework. It bugs me now when it’s wrong.

Top 5 California Compliant Guns 2018 Shot Show

What's the cheapest and coolest (?) "Military" rifle I can buy in Commiefornia? All this talk of getting guns taken has me worried. Also the smaller the rifle the better
You should be able to put together a basic AR-15 for ~$500 still. You’ll need to either fuck about with a non-pistol grip option (something like the MonsterMan grip or FRS-15) or get a mag lock of some kind, which sucks but still beats not having them at all. I’d recommend handling a few different things at your local gun store (they should have plenty of options available)  and see what’s most comfortable for you.
Personally, I have an AR-15 with an old-style bullet button that I bought pre-2016, and for my wife’s we went with the Patriot mag release and Cross Armory Quick Pins since we couldn’t find a featureless stock that we both were comfortable with. The quick pins make the mag release pretty damn easy so I can vouch for those.
