as someone who got a small scratch on my leg by my cat ( on accident ) and felt it stinging for several minutes, there is absolutely no logical reason that adora shouldn't have been traumatized for near-life ( or forever ) or shouldn't have been in agonizing pain when catra scratched her several times.

even in 'Save the Cat', the reason why adora is crying isn't because she's in physical, burning pain, but because of catra being chipped.

and it's not like her acknowledging the pain would make a difference on the fandom anyway. girl literally has a nervous breakdown about catra killing her, killing her friends, destroying etheria, and their response is to act like adora saying "take me out" means she wants catra to take her on a date.

they don't take any of adora's pain seriously unless it negatively affects catra in some way, so they wouldn't have the excuse of "well, there's no lasting consequences, so ofc they wouldn't react", because the consequences that do last still don't matter to them. half even blame adora for it and act like she's being unreasonable.

but catra escalating a war and committing universal genocide, death of the monarch, and attempted murder-suicide isn't unreasonable or irredeemable at all. right.

like i said, i've gotten a small scratch on accident and it hurt like a bitch. i can't even imagine the agony you'd have to go through from getting scratched on both cheeks and on your back, shoulders to waist. and then again, by the same person, on your leg and, again, on your back.

i think it's gotta be talked about every now and then about 'posting anxiety' people can have as a result of being cursed at and insulted time and time again for making a statement that isn't any way harmful, but is simply the opposite of someone else's. especially if you're a child, who likely doesn't know how to handle conflict like this.

so, for anyone who's struggling with this sort of thing at the moment, here's a tried and true method that's put me at ease several times:

block them.

it may feel petty.

it may feel the opposite of helpful at first.

it may even make you feel a little angry, because you didn't say anything beforehand ( or maybe you did ).

but listen.

it is much more important to keep your mental health a priority than it is to 'not be petty'.

it is much more important to keep your mental health a priority than it is to 'win' an argument.

your mental health is much more important than anything the person trying to argue with you could say and you need to keep that above all else, especially on the internet.

nowadays, if i do respond to haters, it's usually with static phrases or emojis, nothing that could give them 'ammo' to further attack and antagonize me with.

basically, you don't always have to engage. it's not really ignoring them either, just refusing to give them any ability to hurt you further.

when you get into a series and then stupid shit happens.

so, i got into a podcast from 2019 called 'The Two Princes', and i love it. it's very charming, basically like a show in audio form, and full of queer. listen to it frequently, got into the tags on my socials, found some fanart and fics and a bit of inspiration.

but during my searches of fanart, i came across two things.

people calling the main relationship ( rupert x amir ) an EtL

some people comparing it to c//a

both of these severely bothered me, and i'm gonna explain why.

for the first one, it's very simple. rupert and amir were not really enemies, in terms of their actual dynamic. according to this red herring of a prophecy, though, they are 'meant' to be enemies.

however, rupert lies about not being the prince of the west ( amir is prince of the east ), saying he's a thief, that his name is fitz, and that he wants nothing to do with his kingdom. this isn't because he holds any ill-will to his own kingdom, but because the east and the west are hostile and he didn't wanna get killed by amir leaving him behind in the forest.

so, their actual dynamic was more of 'unfriendly strangers to friends to lovers'. because amir was a bit uppity and micromanaged, while rupert was more soft(?) and tended to overreact // overly panic. that, and the span of the first season is 3 days. you can't really go from being enemies to lovers in 3 days. in most cases, i guess.

anyway, moving onto the even more frustrating point.

the princes are nothing like catra and adora. absolutely nothing alike. not even a little.

i'm guessing part of the reason is because amir asks rupert to stay. but the context of that situation vs catra repeatedly demanding asking adora to stay is entirely different.

amir asks rupert to stay because, despite being prickly, rupert saved his life and continued being kind to him. he doesn't ask him to stay because of any self-importance, or because he wants rupert to do dirty work, or for any other reason but because amir likes him and wants them to be friends.

that is entirely different from why catra kept demanding asking adora to stay. she kept asking because she couldn't take no for an answer. because adora's ideals didn't align with hers. because she wanted adora for herself, and took any other options as a personal attack.

and another reason this comparison exists, i'm guessing, is because of the whole "they saved the world // universe // kingdom // wtv by kissing and being gay", which. that's still. no. but okay.

the prophecy in 'The Two Princes' is a red herring because it's misleading. it's not intending to be, but it is. everyone thought it meant that the two princes would fight to the death and one kingdom would rule over, when it actually meant for one kingdom to unite the east and west.

and amir and rupert figured that out by kissing and later on deciding to get married ( that's a general way of saying it, but it's cute, aight? they're very cute ).

in the final episode of spop, there was no actual reason or explanation for why any of that happened. it just happened because the show wanted it to.

why did a viral infection go away the moment catra kissed adora? THE FUCK IF WE KNOW!

why did that activate she-ra? 'CAUSE- LOVE! EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE SISTERS, BUT WHATEVER!

why did the heart get destroyed by that? WHO CARES? WE DON'T!

final assumed reason is, again, because of the whole EtL thing.

like i said, 'The Two Princes' is not an EtL story.

and spop was never supposed to be an EtL story. but it is one, so there's that.

anyway, the writing isn't perfect, but if you like podcasts and wanna hear a cheesy-ass queer show with a disaster gay prince, disaster bi prince, a badass lesbian knight, a bi diva, a feral gay twink, a pathetic flirty gay twink, and a dragon and a dog, then give it a listen.

a what-if about bow

i think it would've been interesting if bow was a pacifist.

it could add onto his personal backstory, as his interest in archery could be a high point of conflict between him and his dads ( as they'd see it as an inevitable line to violence ), and result in him being on his own. he isn't banished, but it's clear to him his dads won't listen ( not that it'd be anything new ). and bow doesn't want to give up his interests, any of them, even if it means his family will be disappointed.

and it could add onto his actions relating to the war. he won't severely harm anyone ( and he may even get upset with the others for destroying property with people nearby ), so he uses other means and captures them instead.

despite his upbringing and way of life, i feel bow would be rather guarded and not talk a lot about his home ( like in the show ), giving vague-but-not-inaccurate tells to glimmer, angella, and eventually adora if he ever does answer ( "oh, they're too busy", "i don't know what they're doing right now, but-", "it's not important", "they're probably on another trip", etc. ).

i dunno, i feel like bow being a pacifist would've added a lot more to him, if put in the hands of the right writers.

of course, none of this would excuse the whole "if we do the same thing the bad guy did to us, we're as bad as them" crap, or just any of the bad behavior bow was given ( coughcoughkylecoughcough- coughcoughentraptaCOUGH- ). but i think that's a given.

update on my hiatus!

hello, everyone!

hope you guys have had a good few months!

so, like i mentioned in my previous post from january, i was going to be on a hiatus to decide whether or not i wanted to keep this account and keep it active. these few months were good for me, i think, and i am definitely glad i made the decision to do this.

my current decision is that i will be staying and making this account more active again, but with yet another makeover. i don't think i'll be trying to make full-blown rewrites anymore, as it's not in my best interests and i genuinely do not have the energy to even try to fix the mess spop is.

instead, i'm going to make this an account of a variety of aus, rewrite snippets ( or even some fics of rewriting whole episodes every now and then ), and a bunch of other stuff. critiques included, of course. this will be more fun for me and, hopefully, kick in my creativity and motivation to create art again ( i haven't made a whole lot of anything these past few months, so oof ).

i definitely won't have this account be active forever, i know that much. there will be a day where this account will 'die', essentially, but i decided that it won't be today or anywhere in the near future.

so, yeah, here to stay and i hope you guys will have fun with me!

taking a hiatus + making a decision

hello, everyone.

i've been thinking about this for about two or so weeks, and decided to take a hiatus, logging off this account until May or so. however, i'm also taking this hiatus to see if i'm better off without this.

i have a lot of experiences with this account that i will never forget, both good and bad, but as i'm 18 and rediscovering what is or isn't worth putting my time into, i wanted to take this break to decide if i really want to do this for another year and beyond.

when i come back, i'll make another announcement of my decision for the status of this account. it's possible i'll delete it in the future.

you guys know the s5 scene where catra left adora to die?

here's another thing i noticed.

she's apologizing for dying. while it's really fucked up, it is within adora's character to apologize for something she couldn't control. i can't recall, but she did something similar to glimmer and bow a few minutes prior to this.

however, while the writers may not have intended for this, adora is also apologizing for this:

now, you might be drawing a blank at how this is correlated to her apology, until you remember what exactly catra and adora were talking about here:

adora is about to die.

originally, the conversation was about adora somehow choosing shadow weaver over catra ( which did not happen ), but when catra wasn't winning the argument, she shifted it to be about adora practically being led to her death.

catra's wording starts out as her acknowledging that adora doesn't have a choice in this ( which goes against her earlier reaction to just crying and running away from her when she gets the failsafe ), but then it changes its tune and becomes an accusation of choosing this path, when adora has been forced to take this.

basically, adora is apologizing to catra in the finale as if to prove that catra was right, even though she's literally dying right in front of her.

and catra never apologizes for leaving her.

speaking of which, would this apology even work on catra?

because we all know the real reason she left.

she left because somehow, someway, she twisted the entire conversation and everything related to shadow weaver as adora actively wanting to be around their abusive mother, despite showing multiple cases to catra herself that she doesn't.

adora doesn't like being around shadow weaver. she doesn't like her at all. she may not want the woman to suffer harshly, adora did heal her when she was sick, but she doesn't want to be around shadow weaver if she doesn't have to be.

and catra knows that. there's several instances throughout the show that she's smart enough to see and understand that. she even uses a torture method sw used on her previously on adora and swift wind in the previous season, because she knew it would severely hurt her. especially since catra, for whatever reason, put the electrocution on steroids.

so, it's not like catra has been blind to adora's distaste, she just chooses when to acknowledge it.

catra sees adora eventually dying as 1. choosing to die and 2. choosing shadow weaver over her, in this current scene.

adora has no idea catra thinks this way, so her apology for just dying is not only really fucked up, but is most likely entirely pointless.

these two don't see the same problem. at least, not the exact same one. catra may still be pissed off at adora daring to "choose" the universe over death, for daring to choose the lives of literally everyone on the motherfucking planet over herself, but she's still more upset at adora "choosing" their mother over her.

so, what is adora apologizing for exactly?

yes, for dying, but how does catra see it? knowing catra, the best case scenario is she probably sees it as adora apologizing for being "wrong" ( because she says "no matter what happens, i am staying with you", but then gaslights adora into staying ), and for choosing their mom over her, even though neither of those are true or correlated within the context.

this level of thinking is on par with stans, so i'm not surprised catra herself acts this way.

it sure did hurt my brain when i realized it, though.

i find it so funny that she's telling them to "get over it" when the main reason she's even a war criminal in the first place is because she couldn't get over Adora having morals, ideals, and goals that don't revolve around her for five seconds.

for the entirety of s1, her main goal was to cause nothing but suffering for Adora in whatever way she could [ Princess Prom is a prime example of this, as i'm positive she wouldn't have even thought about going if Adora wasn't there ]. the only reason she could 'move on' and 'get over it' was because she thought Adora died in the Promise episode [ despite what she says in the finale ].

in s2, she's more annoyed with Adora in general rather than being annoyed she's with the Rebellion [ i think ], but she's still keen on using Adora in some way. she just knows that she won't come back to the Horde out of her own free will, so she forces her to do it [ the White Out episode ].

in s3, she's in the Crimson Waste and doesn't even think about Adora until she finds out about her, and then she's still adamant on using Adora as a way to put herself back on top, regardless of what Adora is trying to tell her. and then, when it's found out that, surprise, SW does the exact same thing she's done their entire lives, Catra only makes it about SW for, like, five minutes before taking everything out on Adora again.

we see Catra and Adora actually interact once in s4, and this is probably the most distant they've ever been. Adora is fed up with Catra, Catra is more or less focused on other drama she caused ( Hordak, Entrapta, Scorpia, DT even, etc. ), but instead of not blurring the lines of professional and private living, Catra uses a torture method SW used on her the previous season, and cranked it up to 1000.

Catra could actually move and speak when SW electrocuted her, but Adora could barely even crawl towards Swift Wind, and was being shocked for at least 60 seconds.

and then s5 essentially makes Catra go back to her s1 self, but 'good' and 'finding her worth', as if she had a struggle with that to begin with, when everyone's catering to her pathetic, whiny ass.

oh, and to add another log to the fire, Catra didn't 'get over' tasing Entrapta and sending her to Beast Island to die alone, and she didn't 'get over' Scorpia leaving the Horde until s5, where she pretty much just forgot about it until it was convenient for the writers again.

and she sent Entrapta to die because if Entrapta told Hordak about the portal, it'd stop her petty revenge plans and she'd have to 'get over' it.

so, yeah.

her entire character is the exact opposite of 'get over it'.

And her name is Catra Elizabeth Queen of Hypocrisy Applesauce Meow Meow.
