Teals soul
Chapter 4
•One last goodbye•
------•
Once Teal, Sapphire and uncle Turquoise made it up to the house any hope that the day would be kind to her left, her father stood in the doorway with a frown.
Turquoise greeted him.
"Evening Gravel, sorry I took so long to get here."
"Evening Turquoise, Teal get back inside, let your mother fix your bows, Turquoise... may I have a word."
Teal looked back to her uncle and hesitated before going to her mother, the sight of everyone so sad made it harder to try and find her own courage.
Sapphire however wasn't about to leave Turquoise's side, she leaned against his legs to show she was still around and waved goodbye to Teal. It wouldn't be for long though, she just wanted to hear what Gravel had to say.
Gravel watched his mate and pup leave, once out of sight and earshot he turned to his brother in law and sat down.
"What did Teal say to you."
"Thats not really your business now is it, she has a right not to tell you things and I have a right to keep her secrets."
Gravel snarled at this jab to his parenting, he stood back up and stepped forward, raising his tail stiffly. Turquoise took a small step back, looking down at where Sapphire would be as if to say 'stand back'
Sapphire did just so and took her place behind him, holding his hind leg.
Once Turquoise knew she was in a safer position he faced his brother in law again.
"River told me in a note that Sapphire had drowned, she said there would be a funeral today and I cam to say my fair thee wells to the dead, to remember her."
"Shut it with the shit Turquoise, I know why you're here don't taunt me, what did my daughter say to you down on the trail? My bet is she spewed that nonsense of ghosts and spirits..."
"And? If thats what helps her cope with her sisters death then let her cope, she's barely five! It can't be good for her to see the family so torn! Let her grieve!"
"SHE'S FULL OF LYES! Turquoise I don't care much for how close she is with you..."
"So you think I'm out to steal her?"
"I believe you're trying to make her and her mother come back to you, you never did like me."
Turquoise saw through his loaded sentence, paying no heed to his bullshit.
"Look, if the pup likes me then let her, I won't belittle her or push her away for grieving her sisters death, I'm here for the night, try to bury your hatred until I'm gone... I'm sure my sister would love to fight about this tomorrow morning while Teal sleeps."
Gravel went to bark some more insults towards him but he and Sapphire ignored him and went inside to go back to their sisters.
------•
River brushed Teals hair back tenderly, the two of them were silent but Teal knew that her mother wanted to say something, she looked up at her and held out her paw, River slowly paused and took her pups paw in her own. Her emotions beginning to swell up and spill over.
"Teal I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry I I blamed you, it's not your fault... I should have been a better mother, I should have made you two stay inside, I should have done so much... I-"
She stopped when she saw her brother come inside, she wiped off her tears and stood up to meet him.
Turquoise let out a sigh of relief and then went in for a hug, the two fell into each others arms and held each other so tightly.
Sapphire made her way back to Teal and nuzzled into her sister, Teal held her the best she could, she was just glad her mother didn't hate her like she had assumed.
"Father doesn't believe you at all, and he thinks uncle Turk is trying to spilt the family apart..."
Teal wanted to say something back, but she wasn't sure now was the time to start talking to herself. Instead she listened to her mother and uncle as they talked, they were on the same topic as Sapphire.
"Your mate believes I'm out to rip you away from him, its madness."
"Don't worry about him its not his day, are you okay? You seem tired..."
"I'm fine, has Teal talked to you about Sapphire?"
"Well, she tried to tell me that she's seeing ghosts... but that can't be true..."
"Do you remember back when our parents died? And I saw mom for a few months?"
"Turquoise you can't be serious... that was a vivid dream you know this."
They both pondered something Teal couldn't fathom, but it seemed to be something they both knew was important, in different ways.
River backed away and tried to fix her brothers scruffy hair, to little avail.
"Mother may have tried to communicate with you and I'll admit a few things you said sounded just like her... but if you really think Teal is going through the same thing..."
"Look, I don't ask you to believe her, I'm just asking you at least listen when she starts talking about it, okay?"
"I'll try, but it's hard to hear about her, she was so young..."
"Teal's still here, and just as young, and she needs you as a mother, more then ever."
The two then looked back to Teal, who looked back up at them, then slowly put her paw back down, though Sapphire wanted to be held more , she didn't question Teal's reasoning.
River motioned for her to come, Teal got up and went to her mother, cautiously.
"Did I do something wrong?"
"No sweetheart, you're okay..."
"River, after tonight, if it would help you find a way to cope, I can take Teal for a few days, give you time to properly grieve yourself. I'll bring her back the moment she asks, and if Gravel has an issue with it then he can come talk to me about it."
"Turquoise... that... it might help, can we talk more about this after everything is done with? We'll speak at dinner..."
"Okay, I'll uh, I'll get ready then."
Turquoise nodded then got up and left, he went upstairs and vanished from sight, Teal leaned into her mothers embrace and closed her eyes.
Maybe mom will come around...
------•
It was sundown now and a chill hung in the air, it wasn't windy, no it was a still and humid night, and the tension was high. Just as high as the stars that had begun to shine.
Teal stayed next to her mother during their vow of silence, Turquoise stood beside his sister as well, while Gravel lowered the coffin, and Sapphire's body, into a hole. Sapphire watched, her eyes glued to the small wooden box, or was it her body, trapped inside for an eternity... she would never get to go back to it, this only cemented that fact.
Teal wanted to reach out and hold her, give her some semblance of pity or kindness in this moment, but Sapphire was a bit to far out of reach, mentally she was gone, her mind captivated by something Teal couldn't see. And physically, it would only appear to everyone else that she was reaching out to nothing.
She hung her head, closing her eyes, hoping to wake up in bed, and look over to find Sapphire sleeping peacefully in her own blankets.
She pressed her eyes shut and then looked up, opening them again... only to see the darkness and a hole, now being filled in with dirt...
"Anyone want to say anything?"
Gravel said in a shockingly calm tone.
Turquoise raised his head to look at the sky, then down to Teal and the now buried coffin.
"Sapphire was an amazing and beautiful pup, she had the world in her paws and so much love to give... it's a shame that Truce took her so early in life... my only wish is that she finds a better place."
Sapphire looked up to Turquoise with tears in her eyes, Teal wondered if she wished he'd say something else or if that just struck something inside her.
River took a breath and then wrapped her arm around Teal, bringing her closer.
"I'm so sorry baby, I should have been a better mother to you, I'm sorry I was so angry the day you died, I don't know what I was even angry about... I miss you, so much..."
Teal felt her mothers tears falling onto her head, but she didn't say anything of it. She went to speak her own piece but her father stopped her with a glare.
"I'm just sorry I didn't get there in time to save you... you didn't deserve this."
He mumbled to the coffin.
Sapphire was still in tears, only now she seemed more enraged then upset. He did cut Teal off, maybe that was the case.
Teal still wanted to say something, but she didn't want to be shot down again, she could feel eyes on her, but she didn't have the strength to meet them. She instead just held on her her mothers arm, holding them tightly in her grip.
I don't want to be here anymore, I'd like to go back inside so I can go the bed... I just want to go to bed...
One final scoop of dirt and the grave had been filled.
A soft lump of soil, a small bolder, the sound of crickets and cicadas....
It was all too peaceful, Teal knew it was a bit overdone, Sapphire still existed in this world, on Tustea, she wasn't up in the heavens or wherever spirits were supposed to go, she was with her family, just in a different way...
Thats what Teal wanted to say, but she couldn't, not that she'd have the words for it anyway.
------•
"And why should I let you take my living daughter away?!"
Gravel shouted over the dinner table, River was cowering in her seat while Turquoise and her mate bickered. Teal was sent to her room after the meal but she was hiding in the stairwell, listening...
"Tell me Turquoise, if you're not here to take my family away from me then whats this about taking Teal for a few days? Whats to say those few days turn to a month? Then a year?"
"Like I said already, I'll bring Teal back as soon as she asks me to, I'm not going to hold her against her own will, I'm not sick."
"So you're just going to take my only pup and leave me and my mate to suffer then?"
"No, I'm going to take Teal out of this situation so you all can grieve properly, the last few days have been nightmarishly stressful to all of you, look at yourself Gravel, you're practically foaming at the mere mention..."
"FOAMING, you haven't seen foaming... River, what's your say in this? And don't go easy on him just because he's your brother."
"I think it would be good, for Teal to leave this house for a few days... I need to cry and I don't want my baby to see me in tears, I can't let her see me like this..."
This went on for so long, circling around and coming back to the same arguments, Turquoise kept his levelheadedness but mother was nearly broken down, and father, father was filled with rage, it had Teal terrified to hear him so utterly mad, he sounded like a dragon, like a great beast about to kill.
Even if Teal had listened and went to her room she felt she still would have heard her fathers growls so clearly that it wouldn't have helped.
Her paws felt like they would fall through the floor, her sides shaking with each breath. She didn't want to cry but she felt her soul screaming for it to just stop. Stop
Please...
Sapphire was watching this all, everyone falling apart, shouting and screaming, Teal breaking down, her mother loosing her grip, it was insanity, driving her mad.
She couldn't think straight and everything went so quickly, she didn't know what or how but suddenly, she saw through Teals eyes, she could feel the floor again, and everything was twice as loud as it had been.
But before she could think about it she ran to the dinning room, and made her presence known with a bark.
Everyone looked down in shock.
"I'm going with Turk! I can't stand it anymore! All of it! Shut up!"
Silent gasps from River, a growl of rage from Gravel, Turquoise gave a slight grin towards the pup thrn quickly regained his straight face and turned to Gravel.
"It's her decision, not mine."
"You do not have the right!"
"DAD! I'm going!"

Teals soul
Chapter 3
•Beginning and the end•
------•
It had been a long three days, mother and father were busier then usual. Teal could barely ask for what she wanted, let alone the things she needed.
Sapphire still tried her very best to be heard, she screamed and yelled and at one point she went and hit mothers legs a few times, but they barely seemed to notice.
Teal wondered if there would ever be a way to let Sapphire be heard.
A strange scraggly feline made its way up the trail, a small cart in tow hitched up behind it.
Teal watched as they turned up the hill and parked their tiny cart right up near the house.
She knew that if they were to look through the window they'd see her watching, but dad said not to answer to no one if you don't know em'.
So she sat there, waiting for one of her parents to see that they had a guest. She would have piped up and shouted for mom but after the third time being told to shush she wasn't just didn't want to be yelled at anymore.
Sapphire laid beside her, her head resting on Teals back.
Her phantom form had gotten brighter in those three days, it was bow a lovely shade of crystal blue, her eyes stayed just as dark though. And now they looked terribly sad, not being heard or seen, not being acknowledged by your own mother... Teal knew it was hard for her. She had only just died after all. It was still new for Teal.
"Fire..."
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to push you in, I was only trying to get you off of me."
"I know, I shouldn't have bit you..."
"It's okay, look no marks."
Teal touched her ear and let Sapphire take a look, though she didn't seem too interested, not that Teal was actually either. She still felt sorry, and she didn't know how to properly convey that.
Sapphire perked up and hopped off the counter top, taking a seat on the floor as their dad walked up, obviously annoyed that his daughter was laying on the counter and not somewhere else.
"Teal you know you're not supposed to be up there..."
"Theres a cat outside."
"What? Why didn't you say something?"
"Mom would have yelled at me if I called her..."
"Well Imm gonna yell if you don't get off the counter right now, whats the cat look like?"
Teal hopped down from her spot and shook off. Feeling less motivated then before.
"Long, he looks brown and scrawny, like he hadn't eaten in years."
"That will be the coffin then..."
"The what?"
Teal asked, her ears twitching a bit with curiosity.
Father peaked out of the window then gave a grumble. He walked off past Teal and to the front door.
Teal followed him from a distance, keeping quiet and staying out of sight, Sapphire stuck to her side like glue as the two of them peaked from behind a corner to see what was happening.
Just their luck father went outside and had shut the door, so they couldn't ease drop on the conversation. Though Sapphire suddenly had an idea.
"I'm a ghost right? Why don't I um, do you think I could walk through the wall and listen to him like that? They can't see me, or hear me I guess so..."
"That sounds like a plan to me, good luck."
"Should be easy, I fell through the table so, a walk shouldn't be a problem.... I hope."
Sapphire stuck out her chest and then rushed off to the wall, stopping short and carefully placing her paw on it, then she tried with her nose, closing her eyes tightly and ramming her face into the wall, thought she failed to even pass halfway.
"Try not being scared!"
Teal yipped, giving her sister a small thumbs up as encouragement. Sapphire looked back rubbing her nose, it apparently still hurt to run into things.
"Good thinking, umm."
She looked up and down at the wall and then took a rather deep breath, taking a step forward and getting her leg through, she smiled then quickly regained her calmness as she didn't want to get stuck. And before Teal could applaud her, Sapphire was gone.
So she sat in wait, a bit too scared to move any closer towards the door then she was, for fear of dad getting upset. But she was worried Sapphire might get caught and then be punished for being nosy.
------•
A few minutes went by and Teal started to wonder if maybe Sapphire had found a way to be seen and the dad and the feline had gotten onto her about it. The feeling of anxiety gnawing at her paws and eating at her mind.
The itch making it hard for her to sit still.
She stood up and tip toed a bit closer to the door, cautiously, carefully.
Suddenly before she could get half way there Sapphire burst through the wall where she had previously disappeared and ran by Teal, shouting for her sibling to follow her away.
Teal came to her senses and rushed off with Sapphire away from the kitchen and into the living room, Sapphire ducked behind the seat and covered her face as she had always done when she'd been caught red pawed, Teal took cover with her and tucked her ears back, coiling in around herself.
"What did they say?"
"It's a box, a coffin, they were talking about prices and maintenance and how it was built and.... it's... the coffin is for my body..."
"Thats, a good thing though... right?"
Sapphire turned to Teal with a look of both disgust and fear, her figure shivered with an anger Teal could only assume was from not wanting to let go of herself.
Teal turned her gaze away and took her sisters paw in her own.
"You're body can't stay here, its gone, you don't exist in it anymore..."
"But what if I tried to go back?! What if I took it back?!"
"You'd still have to eat and drink and..."
"But I want to live! I don't want to be a ghost!"
Sapphire yelled, standing with her tail stiff and eyes full of tears. Teal watched her sister get emotional and upset, and she could understand her reasoning, she wouldn't want to be ignored either... not like she was now. But still she felt again that it was all her fault, Sapphire was really upset and she wouldn't have to go through this if Teal just hadn't shoved her away in the first place...
Sapphire saw her cowering away and sat back down, closing her eyes to try and calm herself.
"I'm sorry... I'm not mad at you, I just, I want to be real again..."
"You're real to me!"
Teal countered with a small growl, making Sapphire take a step back, her tail curling against her side.
Then they both went silent, that awkward feeling lingered. They both felt a bit sadder after that.
"Teal! Where did you go?"
Teal jumped, Sapphire looked up and towards the voice, they both were confused.
"Teal come out of hiding! Your uncle's coming over and I need you to get ready!"
Upon further inspection it sounded like her mother, Teal got up and walked out from behind the loafer.
Revealing herself to her mother, who was unsurprisingly more interested in what was happening outside, elsewhere, she hadn't looked Teal in the eyes since that night.
Please just look at me, for a moment, I want you to say something to me, not towards me...
Sapphire was standing right in front of mother now, holding her paw against her mom's leg, Teal could see it, more so now then before, her want to be seen, or felt.
"Uncle Turquoise? He's coming over today?"
"Yes,"
Her mother looked down and stood in a moment of silence.
"Go fix your hair and put on something nice..."
After she had said that mother turned and left, walking upstairs and out of sight.
Teal watched her for a moment and then followed up the stairs herself. Sapphire stayed behind and took a seat on the couch, she didn't seem to be motivated to try and follow her sister up to her room.
Teal opened her drawer and pulled out a bow, she looked it over in question why she needed to be fancy for Turquoise, but she wasn't about to go ask her mom what was happening. She wouldn't give a straight answer anyways... her mind just seemed to have dissolved lately.
Though really she didn't want to think too much about what mother was going through right then, so Teal took her brush and began to try and fix her unkept hair.
Course it was a but rough at first but after a minute or two it seemed to flatten out, much more so then usual. Though a few loose hairs stuck up and out of their place. She decided to try and hide them with the bow. And as a last touch Teal put on her bracelet that Sapphire had made a few months ago for her. Teal had also made Sapphire a bracelet, and while she considered wearing that one as well, Sapphire probably wouldn't have liked that too much. It was her bracelet after all. But that did give her an idea...
Once she was finished getting ready, for what she was unsure of, but she didn't mind the effort. Teal went back down stairs, Sapphire's bracelet clutched in one paw as she made her way into the living room and in front of the loafer Fire was laying on. She tapped her sister gently a couple times and placed the bracelet by her side.
"Fire, would you want this to be placed with your body? Do you think they'd let me put it on your paw?"
Sapphire looked down at the bit of jewelry and nearly smiled, she went to put it on but to no ones surprise it couldn't be moved... she gave a sigh and then laid her head back ok the loafer.
"Yeah... I'd like that... I can't wear it any way so, give it to the dead me..."
"Or I could keep it for you, I wouldn't wear it though, I promise."
"Really?"
Sapphire seemed a bit more hopeful in her tone.
Teal nodded, and took the bracelet again, holding it tightly in her paw. "I'll hold it for today, like you're wearing it, and then tonight I'll put it under your pillow."
"I like that idea."
She said with a small grin, her tail finally wagging slightly again.
------•
It took about an hour for anything to happen, the scraggly Feline fellow had left by then and everyone had gotten dressed up, Teal noted how her dad had put on a jacket that she'd never seen before, while her mom wore a simple necklace and light cape.
Teal had realized by then that this was all for a funeral and to remember Sapphire's life, as her father had put it. But whenever Teal tried to show them her sister was still there they wouldn't listen.
Still, when Teal saw her uncle walking up towards the house she immediately felt so much more alive then before, she smiled and hopped up, running outside and down the trail to him as quickly as she could, Sapphire ran right behind her, almost as happy as she was to see him.
Their mother just let them go at the displeasure of their father.
Turquoise paused and let Teal leap into his arms, he held her tightly and cradled her close.
"I missed you..."
He said giving her head a soft pat.
"Uncle, I missed you so much, and, I did something terrible, and Sapphire-"
"Shhh, it's not your fault Teal, I know what happened. Your mother wrote a letter to me that night, I know..."
"But, they think I killed her! They think I did it on purpose for attention or or..."
Teal felt herself crumbling again, now that she was trying to plead even though she knew it wasn't really needed. Turquoise still held her close, petting her head trying to calm her, she looked back to Sapphire who was standing there, longing to be held again. Teal looked back up to her uncle and mustered up her words.
"Uncle, they don't believe me, they think I'm lying."
"Who?"
"Mama and dad, they think I'm just looking for attention, but I'm not."
"What's happened then?"
"I... you promise not to be upset?"
"Of course not, I wont be mad..."
She took a small breath and then slipped out of his grip, looking back at her sister, who stepped forward cautiously, she had learned by now that no one else seemed to notice her. But Turquoise seemed to realize something was a bit off.
"Whats wrong Teal?"
"Sapphire, I still see her, she's here... I know it sounds really bad, like I made it up but..."
Her mind couldn't quite figure out exactly what she wanted to say, but she wanted someone to know, and Turquoise always listened before...
His head tilted slightly and he looked where Sapphire was standing, where Teal had been looking.
"Turk, Sapphire is a ghost now... I can prove it! Look."
She held out her paw and pushed into Sapphires side, Sapphire gave a slight growl as she didn't like being pushed but she tried not to get too upset, she had hope.
Turquoise watched as Teal seemed to be pushing something out of the way, though he couldn't see it. His ears flicked forward and his eyes seemed to narrow.
"Teal stop you know Sapphire hates being pushed... is, she really there?"
Teal's eyes lit up, and Sapphire took another small step forward, locking eyes with Turquoise.
"You believe her? Can you see me?!"
Though he didn't seem to, he had no reaction, but Teal wasn't about to let this fade so quickly.
"Yes she's right here! Hold out your paw! Please, trust me."
Turquoise gave a small nod and held out a paw, Sapphire looked to her sister a bit curious but went along with her idea. She placed her paw into her uncle's and he flinched, but not away. He took his paw and carefully wrapped it around to hold Sapphire's gently.
"She's cold, but I feel her."
"You believe me! Sapphire he believes me!"
"Uncle I'm still here!"
Sapphire went in for a hug, and while a bit confused at first Turquoise quickly understood what had happened and hugged Sapphire back, opening his other arm for Teal to snuggle into.
The three of them soon got up to make it back to the house, but along the way Teal would talk for Sapphire, as Turquoise had a few questions to ask before he met with his sister.

Chapter 2
•Sharing souls•
------•
Teal was sat on her bed staring at the floor, her mind was so busy and yet she couldn't focus on anything at all, she was scared, she was worried, it had been hours, mother had run off to get the doctor and they had been huddled in the other room for a long while, sometimes Teal could hear an angry murmur or a frustrated growl.
She had been told to sit and stay out of the way until the doctor left, but with every passing second Teal was starting believe that the doctor would never leave.
Her heart felt as if it would explode, her head felt heavy.
I killed her, Sapphire is dead and it's my fault, I pushed her in, I killed my sister...
I...
"Hey, why is there a stranger in mommy's room?"
Teal looked up and around, holding her breath.
"S-Sapphire?"
"Teal, why is there a strange wolf in mom's room? And why is everyone upset? What happened?"
Teal blinked and rubbed her eyes, she couldn't see anyone but the sound was so clear, so very real that she swore Sapphire was standing at the foot of her bed.
"Fire? They um, the stranger is a doctor..."
"Oh, is mom sick?"
"No..."
Teal hopped down and slowly made her way towards the sound, making sure not to accidentally step on anything. Once she got close enough she could see a small sparkling outline, it was hard to focus on but it looked just like Sapphire was standing there.
After a moment the figure became more clear and even looked as if Teal could reach out and touch it.
Curiously she lifted her paw and carefully reached out to Sapphire, Fire looked sleepily at her sisters paw and then sat down, almost as if she didn't care.
Teal tilted her head a bit and then made some sort of contact with this vision, and surprisingly she could actually touch it, it felt like a soft breeze and cotton. But it was there, Sapphire was sitting in front of her.
Teal's eyes lit up and she leaned in and gave her sister a hug, holding her as tightly as she could. Sapphire was rather taken aback by this but didn't say anything in detest.
After a bit Teal backed away slightly to give Sapphire some space, sniffling away her tears.
"Why are you crying? Whats wrong?"
"Sapphire, are you... wait, wait here..."
Teal stood up and crept out of her room, Sapphire sat back with a very confused look on her face as Teal turned the corner and stood at the door to mothers room, her tail tucked between her legs and her heart racing with hope that this was all some kind of strange dream.
She lifted a paw and knocked on the door, then stepping back to wait. Her mother opened the door and looked down with a such an emotionless stare, It looked like she had seen a ghost or monster, it spooked her a bit.
"Teal I though I told you to stay in your room."
"Is Sapphire okay? Did the doctor leave yet?"
"No, no dear Sapphire... she, listen sweetie your sister ,died..."
Her mother looked away with a snarl, but she was more sad then angry, her eyes swelled with tears and it was clear she didn't want Teal to see that. Her father stared from the bedside, a scowling muzzle as he held a limp paw in his own, the doctor stood uncomfortably on the other side of the room, a pair of spectacles hanging on his nose and his tail tucked low. Why was he uncomfortable? What did they say to him?
Teal stepped forward, she wanted to see Sapphires body, she wanted to know it was a fake and that everyone was just playing her for a fool, why else would Sapphire be in her room?
As she took a step but her mother blocked her path, a frown covered her face.
"Mama, let me see, please..."
"You don't get too, she would have been okay, everything would have been okay if you two didn't go to the lake."
"But..."
"Go to your room, just go."
Teal stepped back, tucking her ears against her head, before mother could close the door she caught a glimpse of Sapphires lifeless body, covered in blankets, half dried, her eyes were closed and she looked almost peaceful.
Teals heart felt tight, as if it were being squished by someone stepping onto it with their claws.
"No... no thats a lie, Sapphire can't be dead, I saw her! she's in my room! She's right here look!"
Teal scurried back to her room, where Sapphire was still sitting, well she was lying down now, but she was there, clear as day, right there. Her mother had followed her and was staring right at Fire, but she didn't seem happy, no, her face twisted into a strange sort of sadness. Teal looked again, Sapphire was now standing a few inches away from their mother, her tail wagging and she was talking, Teal could see her talking but she couldn't hear anything, not even her mothers voice, it was so unbearably quiet.
Her mother seemed to be scolding her, but Teal couldn't hear a word, Sapphire seemed to be desperate to het their mothers attention, she was getting more and more upset.
Why can't I hear you, why are you so mad, look at her, look, Sapphire is right there, just look behind you...
But she couldn't speak, her thoughts were so loud but that only made her head hurt.
Suddenly her vision went black and she could no longer feel the floor underneath her. She felt like she fell but the only thing she could sense was the strong smell of fear and anger that lingered around her mother.
Blackout...
------•
What felt like an instant flashed by and Teal finally could see again, she rubbed her snout and then a splitting headache crashed against her, leaving her feeling more awake then before.
"Ouch... mama!"
"Shush hun I'm right here..."
"Mama what, did I fall?"
"You blacked out cold, the doctor took a look at you and said something about your blood being low... you had me spooked."
"Sorry mama..."
Teal felt like she hadn't eaten in days, she was starved, but it had only been a minute, right?
She looked around her room and was surprised to see the sun was rising, it wasn't even that bright out.
And it was much cloudier then before.
She rubbed her head trying to ease her pain. But it didn't seem to work.
Sapphire was laying beside her, she looked almost relieved to see Teal awake.
"What happened Fire?"
"You hit your head pretty hard when you fell, you were sleeping for a whole day after, the doc left after he checked on you, said you'd be fine but... I think mama thought you died..."
The two looked over at their mother, who was now confused to see her pup talking to the air.
"Teal who are you speaking too?"
"Fire, she's sitt'n right here, can't you see her?"
"No, dear... Sapphire died, she's gone. Stop saying she's right there, there's nothing but air and your blanket.... get up and go get something to eat."
She muttered the last bit and then got up and left, leaving Teal alone to deal with her headache.
Teal closed her eyes and put some more pressure on her forehead and rubbed and rubbed, a tiny growl escaped her as she tried to relieve the pain.
Sapphire tried to help and placed her paw on Teal's head, giving it a gentle pat.
"You're head hurts huh, I can try to get you something to eat if you want."
"Thank you, and yeah, my head feels so awful, like well, I guess I did hit my head huh."
"Yeah... really hard too, yeah I'll be right back."
Sapphire hopped down from the bed and galloped off downstairs and out of sight, Teal took this time to take a small nap.
It wasn't too long of a wait for Sapphire to come back, she shook Teal and nipped at her ears to wake her.
"Wake up please! It's IMPORTANT!"
Teal lifted her head, still rather sore, and yawned.
"What's important?"
"I can't grab an-anything! I can't hold nothing! It just sorta slips through my paws!"
Teal sat up and slid out of bed, landing beside Sapphire and giving her a small pat on her shoulder.
"But I can touch you... can you not touch anything else? Um, try this."
Teal took a toy that had been left out from a previous day, she held it loosely in her paw and up to Sapphire.
Sapphire took a breath and went to grab it, but just as she said her paw went right through, only making contact with Teal's and then knocking the toy to the floor as a result. They both stared at it for a bit confused, Sapphire looked rather upset that she couldn't hold things like before, Teal realized now that this meant her sister wasn't flesh and bone, but rather something less, physical. A soul perhaps.
To test this theory out for certain Teal took the toy and tossed it at Sapphire, who was spooked by the plush falling through her chest as if she weren't even there.
"Sapphire..."
"Hey?! Why'd you do that?"
"Fire... do you remember what happened?"
"No... well you threw a stuffed critter at me and it passed through me like I was nothing..."
Teal sat down, her head feeling a little less like a volcano eruption and more like a rather large boulder stuck on a flimsy tree, in other words, it was much more of a constant pressure and less of an explosion.
She took Sapphire by her paw and lead her out the door, down the stairs and into the kitchen, where their mother was standing, looking longingly out the window towards the open fields.
"Mom, can I have a pancake?"
"Sure sweetheart, they are in the box..."
"Thank you."
Teal let go of Sapphire and went over to the chilling box, she took a couple pancakes from inside and then made her way to the table, sitting down and putting her breakfast down in front of her, she then motioned Sapphire to join her at the dinner table and pulled out an extra chair so she wouldn't have to share her own.
Sapphire trotted over and climbed into her chair, sitting down and laying her tail on her paws. Curious as to what Teal was planning.
Teal noticed her mothers concerned glare from across the room, but payed no attention to it beyond the fact she had seen it.
She then scooted one pancake over to Sapphire and then took her own and began to eat.
"Go on..."
she said with her mouth full, muffling the words a bit.
Sapphire gave a funny look at the pancake and then bent her head down to try and bite it, only for her face to pass through the table half way, she sighed and then sat back up, looking to her sister for some help, if she was able to give it.
Teal took another bite and let out a small sigh of her own, right now she was trying to think of a way Sapphire could interact with the world, now that she was less then physical.
She could stand on the ground and not fall through it, and she obviously had no trouble with chairs and beds or second floors... so surely she could find a way to grab things again... but until then she was stuck as an invisible friend...

•J.A.W.S.• Teals soul
Chapter 1
•A drop in the ocean•
•The day it happened was clear, not a single cloud hung in the sky, it had been a long and dry week, and mama and dad were busy with chores on the farm, so we did what any bored young pup would do.
We went down to the lake.•
------•
The idle noises of bird song and the hush of the wind, Teal raced down stairs and sat eagerly at the table right next to Sapphire, her loud sister. The two looked at each other and held their paws over the table, beating down in unison to create a rhythm as they began to chant "we want breakfast! we want breakfast!"
This had become a morning routine over the months and it was starting to wear on their mother's nerves, still, the pups enjoyed making noise together, the one thing they could agreen on was harmonious and spontaneous singing and dance, even if they hadn't the voices for it.
"Mama! Can we go down to the lake after breakfast?!"
Sapphire said standing in her chair, River gave a long sigh and then nodded as she sat two plates in front of their respective pup.
Teal began to eat her meal instantly but Sapphire seemed to have something else she wanted to say.
"Can we help dad with the chores? I wanna harvest wheat!"
"No, you're far too young for that kind of work Sapphire, now hush up and eat your food for' it gets cold..."
"Yes ma'am."
Bite after bite Sapphire got over her mothers tone and got more excited about going to the lake, she wolfed her food down so quickly that Teal had to do the same before Sapphire ran off without her.
One last bite and the two were off, laughing as they ran down the hill, they followed the trail down to the dock and began to splash about in the shallows.
"Hey look at that!"
"What? What'd ya find sis!?"
Teal hopped over to Sapphire, who was standing on her tippy toes to keep her head above the water, Teal carefully made her way beside her sibling and found it a bit difficult to see below her without sticking her nose into the water.
"What?"
"I found one of the leggy water bug things, the ones with the pinchers!"
"Oh wow! Do you think we could catch it for dad? He'd like that."
"Maybe, but its in the deep parts..."
"Oh, thats okay, lets go back to the shallows, its hard to stand here."
"Okay, beat ya!"
They slowly stepped out of the higher water and back into the shallows, then began to hop around again, splashing at each other laughing, barking and playing pretend.
It didn't take too long before they got bored of this game...
"I'm done..."
Sapphire said in the longest drawn out sigh, she sat down creating a small tidal wave, Teal paused her splashing, looking back at the dock and pointed towards it.
"We can sit down and dry off, then maybe we can see what dad's doing, maybe he'll let us help him."
"Mama said we can't help with chores... not the fun ones anyways... but okay."
Teal started the walk to the dock, making sure Sapphire was following before speeding up a bit. It was a quiet walk as the dock wasn't too far away, still Teal wondered if Sapphire was in a mood.
"What are you thinking about?"
Teal asked a bit softly, though she was smiling.
Sapphire flicked an ear back and nodded, her tail stood tail and stiff, wobbling as she walked. She looked proud.
Teal wagged her tail and shook off the extra water, Sapphire's proud smile wavered and she paused mid step to shake off entirely, spraying water everywhere and getting Teal wet again.
"Hey!"
"You got me so I had to get you back."
"Fine, but I'll get you for that later."
"No you wont, cause I'll get you right after."
"Nuh-uh!"
The two bickered back and forth until the made it to the dock, laying down and playfully growling at each other as they continued to yap back and forth.
Though before Teal could realize they both fell into a nap.
------•
The sun hit Teal's eyes and bothered her awake, she sat up and shook her head, wiping her eyes.
"Sapphire we fell asleep, wake up."
Sapphire blinked her eyes open and covered her muzzle and eyes with her paws, swishing her tail.
"Sapphire dad might be done already, get up."
"Who cares anyway he'd just say no, ma' prolly already told him we'd ask."
"You still need to get up, lazy no good-"
"Don't you DARE call me lazy!"
Sapphire jumped up and leapt at Teal, causing a scuffle.
Teal batted back against her attacker and Sapphire snapped at her ears and paws, the two rolled around for a bit, batting and biting and growling, Teal was able to stand up and push Sapphire back a bit, though before she could even open her eyes she new something wasn't right.
A splash and the gargling of Sapphire's screams shook her core.
Teal ran over and held out her paw, stretching it as far as she could.
"SAPPHIRE!!"
"Gra-hmm, Teew, geb mom!"
Sapphire couldn't reach the dock, her legs were just too short and she was drifting to far out to try and swim back, she had fallen into the deep end.
Teal hesitated for a bit as she was desperate to try and grab Fire's paw, but after another failed attempt she turned and ran, as fast as her legs would go.
She ran up the hill and into the house, screaming, "HELP!"
She ran through each room not even stopping, she was searching, hoping, praying that someone was inside.
"HELP! Some one HELP!"
She caught a glimpse of her dad who looked a bit tired and ran up to him, tugging at his leg.
"DAD, dad dad help, please help!"
"Whats going on Teal, this is no time to play jokes on me."
"Please! Please help!"
"Whats the rush, whats happened?"
"Sapphire!"
Teal didn't wait for him to answer or ask anymore questions, she ran, she bolted out the door and back down the hill, half way down she looked back to make sure her dad was following, luckily he was and he looked a bit more serious, Teal picked up her pace and dashed once she saw the dock she B-lined it and stopped just short of the edge, her father stopped beside her in a huff and looked around.
"Whats all this about dear? Whats happened?"
Teal looked over the water and couldn't see anything, the splashing and muffled screams were gone, nothing but the stillness of the water and the eerily calm sounds of summer.
Though once her dad saw how she was staring at the water he took one look and jumped in.
Teal leaned in over the edge watching the blurry dulled shape of her father swimming around, almost as soon as he went under he rose back up, a limp and sopping figure in his jaws, Teal knew, she ran over to meet her dad at the shore line, he had thrown Sapphire onto the ground and started to press into her side, water came sputtering out of her mouth like a bucket had fallen over. Still she hadn't moved a bit.
"TEAL!"
"Yes?!"
"Why didn't you come get me sooner?! You damn, how did this happen?"
"I-we... we took a nap here after playing and-"
"NO TEAL! How did your sister fall in the water!? She can't swim you know that! I know damn well she didn't jump in herself!"
"I!... we got in a fight and.."
"So you pushed her in?"
Teal felt a jab shoot through her heart, he was seriously accusing her of drowning her sister, but she didn't.
"NO! No no no! I only pushed her to get off of me! I swear it!"
"WELL YOU CAN SWEAR ALL YOU WANT BUT YOU CAUSED YOUR SISTER TO FALL IN AND NEARLY DROWN!"
"IT WAS AN ACCIDENT I'M SORRY!"
Teal screamed back, she felt horrible, she wasn't lying, but her father was far too angry to listen.
"Go get your mom, hurry!"
Teal could feel her legs shaking under her weight but didn't try to stick around, she bolted back towards the house, tears in her eyes and a lump in her throat.
Every step felt like it took longer then the last, but she kept running, Sapphire was in trouble, she nearly drowned and Teal couldn't think of losing her, not today, not ever!
"MOM!"
"What is it? Where's your dad?"
"Mom dad needs help, sapphire fell into the water and won't wake up!"
Teal could feel the burn of a thousand bee stings on her pelt, her mother's eyes had so much anger and pain and disbelief in them, looking down on Teal as if she had misheard her.
"Mama please dad needs help, he's trying to wake sapphire up but she's not getting up!"
"Did you do this?!"
"NO! I didn't do anything! She fell in, hurry please..."
With a glare mother followed Teal outside and down the hill, running with her until they saw father by the shore, then mom ran full speed, leaving Teal behind.
I didn't mean it, I didn't do it.... it's not my fault... is it?

The Gods of this universe are all kind of odd and have their own lord and such, like Forest being the creator of life and also extremely and sometimes irrationally aggrsive towards his creations(mortals) while Verdel is the maker, she made the planet and its moons. She's much more caring and calm compared to Forest and will often be the only thing keeping him from tearing the world in half.
There are other lesser Gods as well
Corbin/Cupid who is a small fox for example. He's pretty laid back and chill but he isn't afraid to show off his fangs if you upset him, though he likes to keep things civil and lawful he will have his moments of 'I do what I want I'm a God you can't stop me.'
Naon the weather god, a bitch who just likes to cause a bit of trouble, especially for Bidi, but despite this she does mean well most of the time and is a goodhearted God, she just likes to make her friends angry sometimes
Rubidium, or Bidi, the god of fire war and riots. Calm but aggressive and fully capable of flooding the planet with molten rock and tearing every mortal appart with one claw. However he fears underestimating an opponent and ending up dead himself, even though he cannot fully die even if he were to be what a mortal would call fatally wounded he would heal within a month and be back on his paws like nothing ever happened. Sporting a new scare at most
I can go on and on but this post is already pretty long for my liking
I'll post more information on these gods and the others later, yes, others.
I'll eventually post art and references and maybe comics and stuff with these characters, but until then enjoy my empty page
