I’m thankful Thanksgiving is coming to an end, not only because the Pierce’s - while blessed with beautiful genetics - turned into total sentimental messes after two bottles of champagne, but also because there are more important things to be talking about. My Aunt gave me a thirty three minute lecture on my ‘severe attitude problem’, and if it’s taught me one thing, it’s…who am I kidding? Spill the tea. What’d I miss since being out of town? Anyone who gives me any juicy gossip wins a framed photograph of moi eating pears under a Christmas tree. We stan a #generousqueen.

I will admit, as much as I like to complain that people start to decorate for these fall and winter holidays way too early - I do enjoy a nice set of outdoor decorations. Today I passed by a house that had some of those hanging icicle lights among other small tasteful decorations set up and it looks beautiful. Almost makes me want to start laying out my decoration schemes myself - almost. 

You should! Decorating is fun. Especially decorating for Christmas.

I feel like everyone should have prepared scripts for dinner because it’s the same kind of thing every single year. Maybe next year we should boycott and just have friendsgiving. I’m definitely not doing any cooking, though.

It really is. I just keep hoping every single year that my family will finally understand that I’m not planning on becoming a doctor and marrying a woman, but it seems like that’s too much to ask. But we both survived! That’s what matters. You know, I actually thought of throwing a friendsgiving party this year, but there were so many parties going on already that I decided not to. But we should totally have one next year! I don’t mind doing the cooking! Well... maybe not all of it.

Baked my first loaf of bread today. Honestly? Not really edible. But, I didn’t burn the house down like our chef, Henrietta, worried that I would. So, that’s a plus. For the holidays, I’m gonna bake everybody something since I’m bad at gift giving. What do y’all want? Chocolate chip cookies? Sugar cookies? Other really simple cookies? I’m on it.

I’m proud of you for not burning down the house! That’s the first step of successful baking, after all. Are Christmas cookies an option? If you ever need a baking buddy, please let me know.

The party was in full swing. The music was blaring and everyone was talking amongst themselves. Emilia was off in the corner trying to avoid as many people as physically possible. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to be around anyone, but she wanted to just kind of not focus on what was about to come. She didn’t avoid Toby though, talking to him and giving him attention. It was even a surprise that her mother was as well. It made her mad though because she knew why. Her parents were so cruel.

After a few moments the music stopped and Emilia’s father stepped on the stage after clearing his throat into the microphone.

“I want to thank everyone for coming this evening. It’s a joyous celebration for all of us! Now as many of you know the Clarington’s and Lopez’s have been in business for a very long time. On Thanksgiving we took the next step to complete and secure further business deals by combining our families together. This party is in celebration of the engagement of my beautiful daughter Emilia and Hunter Clarington.”

Emilia could feel her heart drop as her father spoke the words out loud in front of her peers, in front of her boyfriend. It made her sick to her stomach but she couldn’t excuse herself. Her mother moved behind her and gripped her shoulder tightly.

“Smile, mija.”

Forcing a smile Emilia waited until the applause died down and the whispers to start before escaping from the crowd. She couldn’t breathe.

Despite the fact that Emilia’s father probably wouldn’t be thrilled to see him there, Blaine had made it to the party. The fight between their fathers was ridiculous if you asked Blaine, and he refused to let it stop him from talking to Emilia, or attending her parties. He hadn’t spotted either of them so far, though, and had only made some small talk with Emilia’s mother. 

Blaine stared at Emilia’s father for a few seconds, not sure if he’d heard him right. Emilia and Hunter? It made no sense. What about Tony? People around him started clapping (although it looked like most people were just being polite, instead of actually happy about the news), and soon the whispers started. It seemed like Blaine wasn’t the only one confused by the announcement. 

It was clear to Blaine that Emilia’s smile wasn’t genuine, and as soon as everyone around him started moving back into little groups, to talk about what just happened, he made his way through the crowd to follow her. He wasn’t sure if she even wanted company right now, but he needed to make sure that she was okay. Blaine made it out of the room, carefully avoiding Emilia’s father (as he probably wouldn’t be thrilled to see him there, thanks to the fight between him and Blaine’s own father), and approached Emilia carefully when he saw her.

“Emilia? Are you alright?”
