City of Stars was a weird combination of pulpy fluff and some fairly serious commentary on social media, shipping and the damage it can wreak on RL partners and how shitty and hypocritical some 'fans' can be. I don't think the actors were quite strong enough to carry the Fueng and Krom roles unfortunately - I couldn't help thinking that Star Hunter has/had some better, more experienced options. I kept thinking about what BankBonus (PokTong in Gen Y)* could have done in these roles.

Stlll, a nice chat about sexual preferences early in the relationship (yay - verse boys represent), condoms (lube still a step too far it seems) and some positive trans rep. Plus some great friendships. Shame Fueng got his confidence for singing back though.

Mind you, the giant pic above his bed of Fueng with an electric guitar being a rock god did rather undermine the whole lack of confidence in singing thing. Actually the whole house was a bit odd - the year round Christmas tree, the piles of (i think) the same gifts on the counter

Fueng and Khom can't keep their hands off of each other - something that's fairly rare in BL and the complete opposite in RL. Much appreciated boys, thanks, especially as the skinship and Job's rather nice 6 pack and pecs were the only thing keeping me watching during the rather flat eps in the middle. Shallow? Me?

I was, in fact, more invested in the het couple of KorNamsom towards the end, slightly ruined by the very careful info dump explaining that they hadn't made out at all for the six months they were dating - god forbid Kod accepted the love of his life's body before she had the sex reassignment surgery. Yes, it was explained as her decision and she absolutely should have that choice but why was it even a talking point?

Anyway the final ep was charmingly domestic and sappy, And yes, since you ask, I would use Zendaya as an app. And Zendaya herself should be the CEO - much nicer than that muskrat.

*I see that the latter two terminated their contracts with StarHunter in Feb this year - fingers crossed for more opportunities moving forward. They were absolutely the only thing that kept me watching Gen Y...

Deep Night turned out to be an unexpectedly solid little BL. We got a stand on the social acceptability of host (and by extension hostess) work, lovely parents, evil aunties and influencers and a nod, at least, to sex work*

An MC with great chemistry who communicated well *gasp* , a surprise throuple (interesting that it was proposed by Japan who went from not knowing what one was to jumping straight in within one episode - I blame** the sex daydream). Plus a GL couple with lovely Freya and Meiji and not forgetting the fabulous Dai who deserved their own harem.

I liked the fact that Shogun, First and Sun had clearly trained for their stage work and that it was obviously them doing the stunts. Kudos.

Of course it wasn't perfect - the story was flimsy, the aunt was straight out of a different series - possibly a really terrible lakorn - and hard to take seriously, the timelines were borked and the bar's kitchen was clearly just someone's kitchen at home with loads of flowers plonked on the surfaces. And one day someone in BL will work out how to do convincing club scenes - unfortunately today was not that day. However, the rather excellent handjob in ep 8 made me forgive all sorts of Cheewin sins. And as someone who's been a First Piyankul fan since Y Destiny it's great to see him in another main role. More please.

*cleaning up the club' and an acknowledgement by Freya that it had got chaotic implied that there had been less than legal stuff going on. Would clearly have been a step too far to acknowledge sex work as work although allowing clients to paw and maul the hosts was apparently fine.

**blame might not be the right word - applaud maybe?

Deep Night ep 4 and jealous boys be jealousing all over the place. Some are jealous of each other and Khem is just jealous of everyone that comes anywhere close to Wela. What a surprise. Also his reaction and the way he treats Wela

Deep Night ep 3 goes all meta with the Seji and Ken (well mostly Ken) 'acting BL' for a couple of girlies and I enjoyed James Punnaphat attempting to be butch until he put his paws all over Wela and, much like Khem, I wanted to give him a bit of a smack. Interesting conversations about jealousy and what's expected of a host - I suspect there will be more of this.

I'm enjoying some of captioning. 'Denial bottom' is currently my favourite.

It's been 48 hours and I'm still annoyed.

Hmmm. Anti Reset. This is how I felt after the last 3 eps...

Opportunities to talk about self determination, choice, sentience, ethics etc all missed. Threads teased (Ever 9's awareness during programming etc) and left dangling. Why didn't they either destroy Ever 9 or give him back when they discovered he'd rather be terminated than lose his memories of love? A weird, unexplained SEVEN YEAR time skip - what, didn't the uncle bother to call once in that time and invite Yi Ping out for dinner thus discovering he as still keeping his promise to eat more healthily?

Disappointing. Gah.

Nice kisses but I expect that from Taiwan so not enough to save it. Serviceable but had so much wasted potential which makes it so much worse than something you knew would be just fluff.

Ever 9 has done all colourful in Ep 7. I fear we'll be seeing him all back in white before the end.

The short circuit after this kiss gave me flashbacks to John Malkovich (who absolutely does not look good with bleached hair) in Making Mr Right.

OK - up to the end of ep 5 and Ever 9 can't be an AI-enhanced human because he doesn't sleep, eat etc but there's definitely something going on. His skin isn't flawless (unless this is something they've ignored just to cast the actor) and he's just too emotional. Still he's definitely been stuffed full of BL and Kdrama tropes by the uncle's secretary* Poor baby at home all alone at home in the storm - did she put Zong Yi from Kiseki: Dear To Me's trauma in as well?

*who is clearly the unsung heroine of this drama
