I’m running on emotional fumes today. Loss feels so profound sometimes, even when you are dancing on the periphery of someone’s life.

Nana always made me feel life part of the family. Kind to everybody she met. You would never have really known if there was something she didn’t like about you.

We could all stand to be more like her.

It got me think about grief. We’re not really taught how to deal with death. Can something like that even be taught apart from experiencing it? Well-meant but unhelpful platitudes drop out of our mouths because we have no idea what to say. Then in the days that follow, we distract ourselves as much as we can. We feign stoicism. We stuff it all in until it poisons us. Some of us never find peace.

What is the phrase? “It’s okay to not be okay”. That one is true. Give yourself permission to feel things.
