The World Is Not All Bad!
Every Sunday I post my favorite headlines from my favorite good news websites. These are some of the things that were reported on in the last week, June 13 to 19, 2021.
And as usual, Tumblr can’t handle all the positivity, so this is in two parts!

A guide for identifying between the two most easily confused frogs in America this summer: Bullfrog or green frog?
Green frog (Lithobates clamitans, Rana clamitans):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is baby. Smaller than bullfrog.
More pointed snout
Sounds like a really poorly tuned banjo
Two little back ridges
Always look like they got in trouble and are being yelled at for it
American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus, Rana catesbeiana):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Big boy. A man you wouldn't mess with. The chad of frogs. Not to insult the humble green frog, of course.
Very widespread. Found throughout most states. Invasive in many areas
Has an insatiable appetite for literally anything that can fit into it's giant mouth
Makes a loud, intimidating call to assert their dominance
Actual fucking hippo
Now go have fun with your newfound frog knowledge!

Random rabbit hole fact of the day:
Isoamyl Acetate is the “artificial”(it also occurs naturally in modern banana in small quantities) banana taste in most banana flavored candies.
But if you’ve had it before you probably agree it doesn’t really taste like bananas. Why is that?
Apparently, the reason is that isoamyl acetate was waaaay more prevelant in a cultivated species of banana commonly referred to as “Big Mike” that went commercially “extinct”(It’s still around today, just not industrially cultivated) due to a fungal infection outbreak in the 1960s. So it tastes more like the old banana than the new banana. Next time you eat a banana flavored candy, consider it homage to our favorite elongated yellow fruit of a bygone era.
Neat. Here’s a nice gif
