My 8 tips for success in the music industry as an independent artist - 1. Find a niche that makes YOU happy and take advantage of it or create it! Even if it’s a broad niche find a way to bring something unique to that niche. “Niche the niche” so to speak but most importantly find the AUDIENCE that matches that special niche. They ARE out there because YOU are a demonstration of that. 😉 2. Write/Type ALL creative & business ideas out from beginning to end to the best of your ability. There’s value in doing a brain dump even if it’s unorganized & scatterbrained. At LEAST it’s out of your head where you may be able to sort through better. 3. Set realistic short term goals and deadlines, and again write them out. Don’t set unrealistic goals and kill your operation before it even gets started. 4. Reverse engineer your biggest dreams to go from the end result back to where you currently are. It helps with making it realistic and tells you clearly what steps you need to take. Then do one small thing every day toward your dreams. 5. A friendly, humble and generous personality along with strong business skills and organization wins over talent ANY DAY. 6. Be consistent in being timely, communicating, giving back, helping rather than just selling, while knowing your worth and not selling yourself short. Consistency has a greater effect and if you fail to plan you plan to fail. 7. Discipline yourself to work few minutes a day toward getting better at a part of your equation that’s a weakness for you. And don’t be afraid to ask for help, mentorship or a recommendation. Be gentle with yourself every step of the process through the ups & downs, and surround yourself with other positive people who reinforce your values & positively challenge you. Find trustworthy people to delegate tasks to. No success is an Island operation. 8. Forge real relationships with your audience. It goes a long way to the support of your business and it’s/your success and most of all aim for opportunities that allow you to be your full true self and have FUN!!
