For over 6 months, Bisan Owda has shown the world how life in Gaza has been through her eyes. She has told the story of Palestinian survival in the face of the Israeli genocide. ⁣

⁣

Before Oct. 7, Bisan was making films about cultural life in her native Gaza for her own YouTube channel. ⁣

⁣

In 2023, AJ+’s @denatakruri won a Peabody Award for her story “One Day in Hebron,” which gave a firsthand account of the Israeli occupation in Hebron, in the occupied West Bank. ⁣

#this post has been pulled out of the deep deep drafts and by looking at it i remembered what i found so beautiful about it #you see at first glance it looks like a simple beauty. a pretty picture #the flowers are in bloom and the sunrise/set is swirling across the sky and you feel drawn in toward these scenes of beauty #it looks so picturesque #but as you gaze longer and think on them you begin to notice how each one of the petals are curved perfectly and in same size and shape #how all the hues are similar and work together to create a colour pallet where everything goes together beautifully #and then you see how there are rows and rows of flowers beyond capturing not just close up and far away beauty too #and the photographer who took this #did they wait long to take the photos or was it a chance shot? #when you think about it everything working together like that. i think its often passed off but it really is incredible #because at a closer glance nature becomes compellingly beautiful and it is life #and i love it #O'wonderings of art #O'wonderings of writing #photography #flowers

What makes you truly happy?

Honestly? Long talks with people, having friends I can trust, listening to music, going outside, dancing, making stuff, jewlery, painting, decorations, just creating, personalising my stuff so that when people look at it know exactly who it belongs to, changing opinions with people, asking questions, getting answeres, finding out how the world around us works, what makes everything be the way it is, how and why, making other people happy, the nice warm feeling of having a friend on who you can count on, reading while being wrapped up in my fluffy blanket and outside it rains, cooking with my mom and grandma, being myself without caring what others think, even if it may come across as childish, hugs, watching an intresting documentary, taking a nap after a long day while music is playing on low volume, talking about things I like and people actually listening, playing card/board games, interacting with my mutuals on here, explaining things to people and them understanding, looking back at myself one year ago and smiling since I didn't give up, it really got better in the end, looking back and seeing that now I don't hate myself as much, looking back and seeing that I don't feel guilty for refusing people and expressing my opinion anymore, looking back and seeing that I am not a people pleaser anymore, or someone who shapes herself after the way others act, I finally start to get an idea of who I am.
