an extremely helpful addition from cocomere!
thank you for the addition, i might do both breaking down something or just, making something extremely bad just for the sake of it. if anything just to make everyone reading it cringe lol
also an emphasis on the last part; writing is something you learn and hone over time. arguably this could also be used with practically everything else! art, singing, etc.
everyone started somewhere, and over time, by doing it over and over again and learning through each attempt, you get better.
trust me there's some old fics i will never name or link that have me shuddering as i remember just how bad i was, and now here i am. several steps ahead from when i started :D
What鈥檚 your advice for actually getting onto writing WIPs? Like, things that you have ideas for and know where to go, but blank out when having to write actual words to form the actual story?
PS. You鈥檙e really cool! :D
it varies honestly, sometimes i go to other stuff that might get me motivated or give me ideas and such, sometimes i back away and let it stew or maybe i get the chance to get an idea while im away
sometimes there's a few posts on tumblr that give me advice and i do that advice sometimes, like i said; varies. it just depends, but the thing is that you shouldn't really force it.
i say that but sometimes i do force myself to write but the point stands, forcing it either makes it worse or even after you're done, you feel like it's not as good as it could be. it still works sometimes but forcing it shouldn't be your first option at the least.
for actual like story things- better write ideas down and maybe make a small timeline. try to figure out what goes where, where is what, how it goes, why and sometimes even who.
as for prose and actual words- read. read a lot of fics. stories and more. take note of their prose, of their words, how they describe their stories, scenes, etc. try to emulate that in your own words.
also aww, thanks for calling me cool :D

People have written a lot of touchy-feely pieces on this subject but I thought I鈥檇 get right to the heart of the matter

Writing tips for long fics that helped me that no one asked for.
1.) Don't actually delete content from your WIP unless it is minor editing - instead cut it and put it in a secondary document. If you're omitting paragraphs of content, dialog, a whole scene you might find a better place for it later and having it readily available can really save time. Sometimes your idea was fantastic, but it just wasn't in the right spot.
2.) Stuck with wording the action? Just write the dialog then revisit it later.
3.) Stuck on the whole scene? Skip it and write the next one.
4.) Write on literally any other color than a white background. It just works. (I use black)
5.) If you have a beta, while they are beta-ing have them read your fic out loud. Yes, I know a lot of betas/writers do not have the luxury of face-timing or have the opportunity to do this due to time constraints etc but reading your fic out loud can catch some very awkward phrasing that otherwise might be missed. If you don't have a beta, you read it out loud to yourself. Throw some passion into your dialog, you might find a better way to word it if it sounds stuffy or weird.
6.) The moment you have an idea, write it down. If you don't have paper or a pen, EMAIL it to yourself or put it in a draft etc etc. I have sent myself dozens of ideas while laying down before sleep that I 10/10 forgot the next morning but had emailed them to myself and got to implement them.
7.) Remember - hits/likes/kudos/comments are not reflective of the quality of your fic or your ability to write. Most people just don't comment - even if they say they do, they don't, even if they preach all day about commenting, they don't, even if they are a very popular blog that passionately reminds people to comment - they don't comment (I know this personally). Even if your fic brought tears to their eyes and it haunted them for weeks and they printed it out and sent it to their friends they just don't comment. You just have to accept it. That being said - comment on the fic you're reading now, just do it, if you're 'shy' and that's why you don't comment the more you comment the better you'll get at it. Just do it.
8.) Remove unrealistic daily word count goals from your routine. I've seen people stress 1500 - 2000 words a day and if they don't reach that they feel like a failure and they get discouraged. This is ridiculous. Write when you can, but remove absurd goals. My average is 500 words a day in combination with a 40 hour a week job and I have written over 200k words from 2022-2023.
9.) There are dozens of ways to do an outline from precise analytical deconstruction that goes scene by scene to the minimalist bullet point list - it doesn't matter which one you use just have some sort of direction. A partial outline is better than no outline.
10.) Write for yourself, not for others. Write the fic you know no one is going to read. Write the fic that sounds ridiculous. You will be so happy you put it out in the world and there will be people who will be glad it exists.

Hi! I was reading your outline for Remix and was wondering if you are also doing one for Stream Labs Live? I know that you planned to post an outline for Wishes and Theseus fics.
I really enjoy reading Stream Labs and I think your writing is wonderful. You build such a great story and world. 馃グ馃グ馃槑馃槑
quite honestly i might at this point, i was holding out hope for stream labs live but after finding out about wilbur im pretty sure the motivation has died out completely. it might be revived at some point, i do love stream labs live and yeah the world building was great to do but...
i might just add it to my list of outlines that ill do eventually. sorry guys! but yeah.

chapter 15 up and ready! one last update before the month ends :D
will admit, i could've updated earlier if i tried and focused more but i was just having too much fun with crocheting. i'm almost out of yarn and i'm really hoping the store i go to for groceries also sell good yarn. all else fails, online shopping will be the best option.
anyway, i hope you enjoy! see you all later!

PSA: Tumblr/Wordpress is preparing to start selling our user data to Midjourney and OpenAI.
you have to MANUALLY opt out of it as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
to opt out on desktop, click your blog 鉃★笍 blog settings 鉃★笍 scroll til you see visibility options and it鈥檒l be the last option to toggle.
to opt out on mobile, click your blog 鉃★笍 scroll then click visibility 鉃★笍 toggle opt out option.
if you鈥檝e already opted out of showing up in google searches, it鈥檚 preselected for you. but you also have to opt out for each blog you own separately, so if you鈥檇 like to prevent AI scraping your blog i鈥檇 really recommend taking the time to opt out. (source)

whince. sorry you had to find out this way. as an author who wrote stories involving wilbur on ao3, i can prolly relate on how much you might be going through rn. if you need anybody to talk to i'm always free to lend an ear. i hope you're doing ok <33 hugs from across the world <333
yeah honestly i was coming back to tumblr to look at hot dwarf chef senshi fanart from dungeon meshi and instead stumble into the latest mcyt garbage disposal. really wasn't expecting that today.
like i said before, i was a casual enjoyer of wilbur so i'm not THAT heartbroken or angry or anything (aside from angry from the abuse and bullshit ofc) just really. really. REALLY disappointed. so there's not much to talk about, i feel more sorry for the more involved fans and enjoyers tbh.
as a writer though it's so fucking sad and i feel more with the other writers too so yeah. thank you for the offer rabble, and it goes the same to you. if you wanna talk, i'm here with an ear too.
hope you're having a good day dude, draw something nice, treat yourself to something relaxing and stuff <33 hugs from across the world :)
