a/n: hellooo! here i am once again with a series bc i cannot control myself apparently lol. it is obviously inspired by taylor swift's back to december (thank u to my tiktok fyp for not letting me escape the taylor x taylor edits) so go listen to that song if you wanna get a better look on what the story's gonna be about.

this series is gonna be a little different structure wise ig. i've taken certain verses of the song and rearranged them so they could tell the story before and after their break up the way i want it. you can get the hang of it by taking a look at the masterlist. i reckon there will be around 12 or 13 parts, but i didn't wanna list them all down to kinda keep the suspense going (as much as you can keep suspense going in a cliché ass plot lol).

Case “Forget your ex for a second”

Sypnosis: Your colleague went through a terrible break up with the girl of his dreams, but you two get assigned on a case and it’s up to you to bring him to his senses

You sip on your 5th cup of coffee of the night, eyes trailing from the screen in front of you to your colleague a few steps away.

Seeing Chan slumping, you can’t help but think of the countless times he scolded or poked your back with a pencil when he saw you slouching. But instead of anger, it only fills you with pity for the brunette.

You see him aimlessly drag his mouse, eyes droopy but staring at the screen. He’s both spaced out and attentive, lost in his mind yet registering everything on the screen. Curiosity gets the best of you and you get up, walking behind him. He doesn’t notice, and keeps scrolling, and it all makes sense once you see what’s on his screen.

“Chan, stop stalking your ex.”

He gasps as his head whips around, a hand on his chest. “Geez, you scared me!”

You can’t help but scoff. “Maybe if you weren’t scrolling through Instagram so attentively, you’d notice.”

Chan pouts, slouching even more. “C’mon Y/N, have a heart.”

“It’s been a week, Chan!”

“It’s not enough!

You sigh, he’s right. It’s not easy to get over a heartbreak. You sit beside him, rubbing his back. “You wanna talk about it?”

“Yeah…” Chan trails off, playing with his shirt. “I just feel bad, it’s all my fault.”

“How so, Chan?”

Chan grabs his glass of water and gulps it down in one go. “She said I’m always busy. That she understands my work but she can’t handle it anymore and it’s best if we break up and I date someone who can keep up with my schedule.”

You turn to grab your coffee and sip it. “Well, although she is right, it’s not your fault. It’s just how things are.”

Chan purses his lips. "Yeah."

You and Chan run across the street, keeping an eye on the guy you are currently investigating. After he showed a suspicious alibi, you decided to spy on him the day before the funeral of his girlfriend.

You had to drag Chan away from staring at couples in coffee shops and what-not ten times. Not only it was hindering your investigation, it was creepy as well.

Imagine seeing a buff man staring at you from the window and sighing every two seconds? Yeah.

You gasp as you see the guy hand over something in an empty alley, and you reach out to show Chan the same, when your hand meets air and you look back to see him gone again.

"Not again," you whisper, stepping back a bit and looking around for Chan. You had to step away from the empty place and into the crowd to finally see him lingering outside yet another restaurant.

You almost scold him, but then when you see where he was looking.

His ex, laughing over lunch with another guy.

Your heart aches for him, but at the same time, it's not the right time and you need Christopher Bang, the Detective, not Chan, the lovesick pupper.

So you grab him and shake him, bringing him back to reality and run back to where you saw the suspicious handover.

"W-what happened?" he lets out, mumbling a 'sorry' when you shush him. You see the guys still talking, maybe in an argument.

"Y/N, why-"

"Oh my god Chan, shh!"

But unfortunately, none of you were 'shh' and the guys catch your forms around the corner. They call out, starting to walk towards you. Panicking about what to do, you do the first thing you think of.

Pulling Chan in and kissing him.

You unnecessarily moan in it, trying to seem like two horny people in the alley and cringing inside. And Chan's face frozen in shock when you pull away makes you feel even worse. But, to sell it, you say words you never thought you would ever utter during your time on Earth.

"C'mon honey, let's not do it here! Someone will catch us!"

Both of your faces flush, hot red blooding seeping in your cheeks, as Chan clears his throat.

Apparently the guys buy it, and they mumble, walking away from each other. After the suspect is gone, you run after the other guy, Chan following you and you both corner him. He eyes you both, clutching the parcel even tighter.

"What did that man hand you over?" you ask, nodding towards the very thing. The guy scoffs, and starts to walk again until you take out your gun and point it at him. That does the trick and he drops whatever was given to him, pleading to be spared.

You give Chan a signal and he grabs the guy, holding his hands tight while you search through the given items.

Along with some random stuff, like clothes and a toothbrush, you find the incriminating piece you were looking for.

Bloody clothes.

"Maybe he didn't do it."

You roll your eyes for the fifteenth time that day. "And why do you say that, Chan?"

He sighs, a dreamy look in his eyes. "Why, oh why would a guy who loves someone so dearly do something so horrible to them?"

"Chaaaan!" You whine, being sick of such statements after hearing them for ten days straight.

"I bet the girlfriend broke up with him and un-alived herself to frame him," he huffs, pouting. You stop in your tracks glaring at him.

"Are you hearing yourself right now?"

If Chan had ears, you could imagine them dropping quickly as he stops too, looking away. You sigh again.

"Channie," you let out and he looks up at your statement, doe-like eyes making you feel bad for what you said.

"I know this is hard for you, but I need you to get your head back in the game. We're going to interview that guy now," Your hand finds itself on his shoulder as you said those words. He looks into your eyes, a blush creeping on his cheeks and ears.

That's new.

Maybe you know the reason.

"Hey, are you...thinking about that kiss?"

You cautiously ask him, and he looks away, nodding. You huff this time and flick his forehead.

"Don't."

And turn away just in time for him to not see your flustered face.

You both step inside, introducing yourselves, and after a few initial questions about him and his life, you jump right in.

"Mr. Choi, did you kill your girlfriend?"

"No, I did not. Actually, when she died, she wasn't my girlfriend anymore either."

"What if i-"

"Wait, what?! What happened?!"

You feel yourself getting pushed off the table as Chan joins in eagerly, eyes wide.

"Chan..." you mutter, sending him glares but both men in the room ignore you.

"She said she didn't see me as a guy she could have a future with."

"Oh my gosh!" Chan covers his mouth with his hand, and you your forehead.

"Bro, what do even girlfriends want! I gave mine everything I could and she left me in a heartbeat and went on a date!"

The guy shakes his head. "Man, I feel you. One moment we were talking about future and kids, and next moment suddenly I wasn't the guy in her future?!"

"You sure she wasn't seeing anyone else?" Chan asks, clearly intrigued with his story.

"I bet she was! Bet that bitch was cheating on me! I swear to God I would've caught her red-handed if I didn't smash her head with the bottl-"

"Oh."

"Oh."

"Good job, Detective Bang, and good job Detective L/N!! We solved another case yet again at record speed!" Your Captain praises you both, as he calls, the Dream Team. Finally, after a month of all the documentation and trial, Mr.Choi was put behind bars, proven guilty.

"And Detective Bang, what a clever strategy to get a man to confess! You surely know a lot about people and relationships!"

Chan just chuckles nervously, clearly embarassed at his past self for being so informal. You try to hide your laughter, amused by how things turned out.

You're not mad at him, not after the countless times he apologized for making things harder for you. But eventually, it all worked out.

After the rose tinted glass around his eyes shattered, Chan finally put his ass into work and solved another case with you, the trial for which will be held next month.

He doesn't talk about his ex anymore, but there isn't anything more to say about her after he told her entire bio data and history to you.

You both have a few days off now, packing your stuff in the office to head home. You see Chan waiting near the door, and you finish packing up quickly and walk with him outside.

"So I guess I'll see you after a few days," you smile at him, as he smiles back and nods.

"Or..." he trails off, looking ahead.

"Or?"

"Or maybe we could go for lunch right now! I'm starving!"
