ok, but there are SO many ways to appreciate lisa frankenstein.

Casual Viewing: THIS MOVIE IS SO FUN. It's campy and original and fresh, and so so reverent to (objectively) the best decade to be a teenager, and Lisa is a twisted complex super relatable character, and it's all around a fun movie to watch that isn't super inaccessible or gory. Also diablo cody is THAT GIRL, idc.

Feral Viewing: Queers, goths, trannies, girlfreaks, and murderers (i'm 3/5, tag urself lol) this is OUR movie. Hyperfixate and draw all the fanart and write all the fanfics and theorize and fall in love with side characters and ride or die for creech and lisa. its AMAZING, and you can probably tell which one i am. We all deserve to give or receive bottom surgery and commit totally justified and righteous murders with a hot S/O. We all know some arthouse filmbro douchebag gatekeeper who only wants simple vapid girls so he can hold all the power and interest and "coolness" in the relationship. This is the People's movie.

Cinematic Viewing: Get a notebook and popcorn and a feral viewer friend and Dissect this movie. The sound track is masterful and understated while also complimenting every single scene it's in, at some points even feeling DIEGETIC its so great. The costume design DOESN'T miss. I watched this with my mom and at soooo many points she paused and pulled out her middle and high school yearbook and photo albums to appreciate just how much they got the high 80's fashion correct. This interview with the costume designer really showed the level of care that went into every part of this movie. It's a love letter to the 80's without feeling like it's being ham-handed. AND THE CINEMATOGRAPHY. the little puppets during the credits/creature's origin story? that was such a funky little opening. the color palette in every scene is so cohesive and deliberate and absolutely reflects lisa's journey as a character and individual. Taffy subverting queen-bee evil stepsister tropes, her dad's strange (murderous???) characterization, there's not a single accidental trait in this film.

Empowered Viewing (my favorite): I can't even summarize this myself, because it's not my original thought, but @michaelinprogress made this amazing post about the significance of the axe and how lisa and creature address and reclaim some of lisa's most traumatizing experiences into ones that positively empower her. OR, to some extent and of equal importance, the inherent queer undertones of this movie. Creature getting bottom surgery, this less than traditional romance, lisa's goth transformation mirroring the self-discovery and confidence that often come with transitioning. This is a movie for the unseen, although I don't think we can quite call ourselves that because THIS MOVIES SEES US.
