Anyway, book 1 of Alpha is over, and outside of me pretending it was about an angsty fucked up love/hate relationship between a werewolf and a hunter, it was mostly kinda boring ngl.

While I personally enjoyed the confrontation with Markus in chapters 19-20 just because of how unhinged and delusional he was, I don't think they really build him up as a villain enough to make it feel like a satisfying book finale. If he was supposed to be the big bad, they should've started setting up his weird fucked up obsession with MC way earlier. Instead, they shoved him in the background in a misguided attempt to make him seem inconspicuous for the sake of the plot twist, and as a result, the mid part of the book kind of dragged.

Hopefully they'll do something more interesting with the second book, because I won't be able to keep entertaining myself now that the most interesting character (to me) is dead. PB does seem to be more willing to take risks with the sequels recently (like TCH2 and ID2), so I guess I'm staying optimistic for now.

I’ll miss my wife as well! She is one of the best LIs and PB did her so dirty! I agree sometimes books can be a flop but the LIs can be incredible
