What an interesting concept!!
One fact to support your theory I can tell you, is that Daniel's definitely not getting Levodopa in that IV. L-Dopa is never prescribed as monthly/weekly IV infusion. It needs to be taken at regular intervals (usually 4 times) every day.
The only reason for the show to so drastically change the method of administration would be because its key to some future aspect of the plot. Not to mention how much of the show's focus and screentime is given to Daniel's illness and the scenes featuring the doctor/treatment.
There's something going on with his treatment. I suspect it's not about addiction (this time). Personally, I think it's about Armand being terrified of Daniel dying, and desperate to save him. In the books, for Armand, the only thing worse than turning Daniel into a vampire is losing him entirely ( Daniel's death).
Armand loves him so much that even though he believes turning him will inevitably result in Daniel growing to hate him and leave him, Armand chooses to turn him anyway. He just can't face a world without Daniel in it.
I think Armand likely found out ('one sided hack') about Daniel's diagnosis and freaked out. He used the only sure method he knew to convince Daniel to voluntarily fly across the world (in secrecy no less > 'Putin or Bazos'), during a pandemic, and enter the home of a known predator > he has Louis to repeat the action that brought Daniel to him in the first place (the interview).
I don't think it's entirely about Daniel, but I do think a major aspect of Dubai's plot will be about saving Daniel.
“Is your medication taking?”
My speculation? That’s not Levodopa he’s being transfused with. 😬 It’s vampire blood plasma concentrate/concoction.
Further speculation? Pharma Bros - Seth, Gregory Collingsworth and Dr Fareed have isolated the healing properties of vampire blood. It’s not just real estate that they profit from. It’s carefully formulated to not be a permanent cure. It only masks the progression. And if the patient stops taking it, the symptoms/disease come raging back to what it would be had it progressed naturally - the worst withdrawal one can imagine.
So patients have to come back continually. What better way to guarantee demand? Their clients; oligarchs, cartels, politicians, billionaires. Aside from steady flow of money, they control power and influence by controlling access to the drug. “Where do you meet the Devil and what are the terms?”
Daniel swaps one addiction for another. It’s canon compliant, Armand has him hooked and he has to come back repeatedly. 😈 It’s an interpretation the Devils Minion arc.

Daniel's Journey Towards Armand:
"He had been a young reporter, roaming the bars of the world with his tape recorder, trying to get the flotsam and jetsam of the night to tell him some truth."
"Well, one night in San Francisco he had found a magnificent subject for his investigations.
Tumblr media
And the light of ordinary life had suddenly gone out."
Tumblr media
"Now he was a ruined thing."
Tumblr media
"He was an expert on Armand, wasn’t he, he had studied every detail of Armand’s youthful body and face."
"He had never been revolted by Armand, he had to admit it. What he always felt was ravening and hopeless desire."
Tumblr media
"Everything would go all right for months as Daniel felt compelled to move from city to city, walking the pavements of New York or Chicago or New Orleans. Then the sudden disintegration. He’d realize he had not moved from his chair in five hours. Or he’d wake suddenly in a stale and unchanged bed, frightened, unable to remember the name of the city where he was, or where he’d been for days before. Then the car would come for him, then the plane would take him home."
"You came back to me because you wanted to, Daniel,” Armand always said calmly, face still and radiant, eyes full of love. “There is nothing for you now, Daniel, except me. You know that. Madness waits out there.”
Tumblr media
"I’d rather die than see you die, Daniel.”
“Then give it to me! Damn you! Immortality that close, as close as your arms.”
“No, Daniel, because I’d rather die than do that, too.”
Tumblr media
Armand on the pain of loving Daniel
"In time I conceived another love naturally, a love for a mortal boy Daniel, to whom Louis had poured out his story... I later made into a vampire for the same reasons that Marius had made me so long ago: the boy, who had been my faithful mortal companion, and only sometimes an intolerable nuisance, was about to die."
Tumblr media
"Daniel himself had no use for the world, and had come to me hungering for our Dark Blood"
"Heaping every luxury upon him, I only sickened him with mortal sweets so that finally he turned away from the riches I offered, becoming a vagabond. Mad, roaming the streets in rags, he shut out the world almost to the point of death,"
"I, weak, muddled, tormented by his beauty, and lusting for the living man and not the vampire he might become, only brought him over to us through the working of the Dark Trick because he would have died otherwise."
"My love for Daniel had never been entirely honest, and always viciously possessive, and quite entangled with my own hatred of the world at large, and my confusion in the face of the baffling modern times"
Tumblr media
"That is no mystery unto itself, the making of Daniel. Loneliness will always inevitably press us to such things."
"I was a firm believer that those we make ourselves will always despise us for it."
"There was never any innocence for us, there was never any springtime. There was never any chance, no matter how beautiful the twilight gardens in which we wandered. Our souls were out of tune, our desires crossed and our resentments too common and too well watered for the final flowering"
Tumblr media
On Marius caring for Daniel while he was mentally unwell
“. . . I took Daniel with me because he needed me. I took Daniel because it’s unendurable to me to be utterly alone."
“Daniel is very good at putting together the houses. See how intricate they are? This is all that Daniel does now.”
"I’ve come here with Daniel alone. Daniel always needs someone to look after him. It suits me to be near Daniel. Daniel doesn’t have to speak. That he is here is sufficient.”
David on seeing Daniel sane again:
"Quickly, he locked in on his companion: the tall thin boyish young man with the violet eyes and the ashen hair whom Lestat had so aptly called “the Devil’s Minion.” It was Daniel who had interviewed the vampire who was Louis de Pointe du Lac, thereby giving birth unwittingly and innocently enough decades ago to the collection of books known as the Vampire Chronicles.
It was Daniel who’d captured the damaged heart of the Vampire Armand and been brought over by him into Darkness. It was Daniel who had languished for many a year—shocked, deranged, lost, unable to care for himself—in Marius’s care until only a couple of years ago when his sanity, ambition, and dreams had been restored to him."
On Marius loving Daniel
"Marius loved Daniel. He had salvaged Daniel from the aftermath of that storm, and never for one moment regretted it. Marius knew that Daniel had also salvaged him from the same chaos, becoming for Marius someone Marius could care for, someone Marius could personally love. It meant the world to Marius that he was not walking on this beach alone, that Daniel was walking at his side."
"Daniel was a disciplined hunter, master of the Little Drink in a crowd, and a slayer of the evildoer only. Marius was certain of that."
Louis on the reunion of Daniel & Armand
"Armand and Daniel Malloy were out hunting alone in the gentle warm rain."
"[Marius] he'd lost his longtime companion, Daniel Molloy, to Armand again, and these two remained at Court only because of the threat to the Prince, and hoped some night to be free to go to Trinity Gate in New York."

Yes, exactly!
Sam's discussed this recently in an interview on the ABC here
And here's a transcript of that section of the interview:
Tumblr media
I have so many Thoughts™ on Dale's arc in season 2 but what I want to talk about now is his scene with Donna Gillies in the final episode.
Sam Reid has this wonderful ability to deliver certain lines that appear one way on the surface, but he subtly slips in other emotions underneath that makes you question what the intent of the line is.
This monologue, as many people have pointed out, sounds like a villain speech. And Sam was wonderful at making it sound unnerving as hell. But between his delivery and his micro-expressive acting, I got the impression that this wasn't some kind of power-hungry "I WIN!!!" speech. It felt more like "this is my life now, I cannot leave now, this is what I feel I have to do". More tragic than villainous.

*Massive spoilers ahead...*
1. The 'Rashid' deception isn't in the books, so we can only speculate. But in books, the Daniel/Armand romance is extremely long, intense, dysfunctional and brutal. Daniel begs to be turned, but because Armand believes vampirism's a curse and a cruelty, he refuses. But eventually Daniel was dying of his addiction, so for Armand, it was do it or lose him forever.
In the TV version, Armand may have wiped his memory (or Daniel asked him to) to save him from this fate. Playing Rashid may have been a way for Armand to protect both their hearts from the pain 💔
2. By publishing this interview, Louis is putting a target on his own back because he will be publicly revealing the secret of vampirism. Additionally, in the very first words of the interview, Louis revealed his name and location.
The real question is why does he want the entire world to know this information?!? Who is Louis trying to attract, or to provoke?
*Interestingly, a major reason Lestat published 'The Vampire Lestat' was to protect Louis. He revealed the secrets of vampire history, so the other vampires would attack him instead of Louis. Lestat purposefully made himself the bigger target.
3. Louis loves Armand, but he isn't 'in love' with him. Somewhat, Louis deludes himself into believing that he genuinely loves him, but at the same time, he is with Armand because he protected and cared for him following some incredibly traumatic events in his life (which Louis knows was Armand's fault. As I said, its complicated). Louis is a younger weaker vampire, while Armand is older and incredibly strong. In many ways, they're using each other, for companionship, for attention, and as a way to ignore their own pain.
4. *Note* This is really, really complicated, and difficult to write about without discussing some very, very triggering topics. I'm going to try keep this explanation as non-descriptive as possible, but TW for literally everything Armand related.
Okay sooo.... The thing to remember about Armand is that (at this point in the story) all of his living and vampiric existence has been one horrific sequence of traumatic events, and all he has ever known is abuse (physical, psychological, emotional, sexual, societal, religious, every conceivable cruelty). His father, the priests, the soldiers, the slavers, the buyers, his maker, the other vampires, everyone has always abused and abandoned Armand.
Unfortunately, this means he has no capacity to understand what is normal, healthy or safe. And yet, he is still desperate for love, and desperate for a any sort of connection with another. He will do literally anything he can to keep those he loves with him, which includes manipulative, abusive, controlling, violent and cruel behaviours. And those who reject him (like Lestat did), Armand would rather be hated than ignored, rather be despised than forgotten.
Armand is seriously damaged and truly sad. And he also abusive, coercive, violent, manipulative and cruel. That's the reason people say Armand is worse than Lestat.
Hope that helped give you some context.
It's a complex show, based on even more complex series of books. But if you're willing to engage with them, the Vampire Chronicles explores some truly profound social, moral, spiritual and philosophical questions in a deeply humanistic way. Its a beautiful, yet challenging series, and I very much recommend reading it (even if you might need to skip the first book :)
Ok, so I'm OBSESSED with Interview with the Vampire on AMC! But I have some questions that I NEEEED answers to! I haven't decided if i'm gonna read the books yet because i love the changes the show made too much, so please don't give, "Just read them." as an answer. It's not a light decision. I'm Black and i know all the mains in the book are white AND Louis's a slave owner, so that's already knicking off a few points for the books. Also, with Claudia being even younger AND mildly in love with Louis, well, i shouldn't HAVE to say how disgusting that is, but, this is tumblr, so, IT'S DISGUSTING.
Anyway. For fans of the show like me, if u have answers to these questions please comment! Thx!
1. Why was Armand disguised as Rashid??? Like, what was the point? So he met Daniel before with Louis.....ok........ why is it such a big deal to make sure Daniel doesn't remember that?
Tumblr media
2. When "Rashid" told Daniel, "You are chronicaling a suicide." Was he talking about Louis or Claudia? Like, Daniel writing Louis's story will be a suicide for Louis? Or because the events in Louis's story are what got Claudia killed?
Tumblr media
3. Related to 2: What's the point of the interview if Louis has finally found the love of his life with Armand? If Daniel publishes it, it could mean a death sentence for Louis like Armand said, but if Louis is finally happy with Armand now, why is he doing the interview????
Tumblr media
4. And why do some fans find Armand more toxic for Louis than Lestat? We don't even kno where the show is taking Louis and Armand's relationship. But we've seen Louis and Lestat's. Are these fans going off of something that happens between Louis and Armand in the book or are they just jumping to conclusions?

But not only that!!
He is actually doing this feat repeatedly!
Sam's literally filming both 'The Newsreader' and 'Interview with the Vampire' season by season, back to back. Meaning that, so long as both shows keep getting renewed, Sam will keep transforming himself (again and again and again...)

Agreed!!
And I'd add that, "I have loved you with all myself," is a line with an incredible amount of weight behind it. It is about him admitting to failing Louis. And I would argue, it is also about Lestat expressing feelings of resolution, and maybe even finding some small amount of peace.
Unlike in the original novel, in the IWTV show, Nicki's memory is almost like a presence haunting their relationship right from the start. As early as the first episode, when we learn of the music box, that it was one of the few treasured items Lestat kept with him, that he composed the song for a 'boy of infinite beauty and sensitivity, a boy he clearly loved. This song plays throughout their first sexual encounter and night together. Lestat only closes the music box, as Louis leaves the house. Later, Claudia uses the memory of Nicki as a weapon, knowing the profound pain and guilt his memory invokes for Lestat. How deeply traumatized and grief stricken he must have been, that it took Lestat over century to even consider trying again.
With Louis, Lestat hoped for a second chance. But this time, he resolved not to make the same mistake. He was determined to give everything into loving Louis, everything of himself.
In Louis, Lestat saw a man burdened with a profoundly familiar sorrow. His mind, a mirror to Nicki's own. A mind in unbearable suffering. Yet Lestat saw, despite his 'voluminous sorrow', Louis was enduring it all. A successful businessman, respectful son and loving brother, in a world set on beating him down. Lestat was besotted. He foolishly hoped that maybe, if he tried hard enough, loved him enough, Louis might endure the despair. Might become his willing companion, someone to share the emptyness and pain of an endless existence.
But in the end, by saying, he loved him with "all myself", Lestat is admitting (as @virginiaisforvampires said) that he knows his love 'wasn't enough. It never has been'. Lestat is resolved to his failure, and accepting of his fate.
He failed, and he accepts that. But Lestat is also saying that, at least this time, he truly did love Louis as best he knew how to love anyone. He gave everything he was capable of giving to their relationship.
And in the end, he was willing to give all of himself over to Louis, even his life.
Hello! Why do you think Lestat was crying when he was telling Louis "we are joined by a cord, a cord you cannot see, but it is real. It is real"? I thought he was afraid that Louis would go through with killing him because he looks a little panicked, but then when he realizes Louis is going through with it, he resigns. Thank you!
Hi! 💚
He was crying because he loves Louis. That’s simplifying it, but that’s just the fact of the matter. He’d been on the verge of tears the entire night. He was panicking when he thought Claudia was the one to do the killing. When he sees it’s Louis, that’s when he gives up. Louis wants him dead, and Lestat can’t deny Louis anything, even his own life.
“I have loved you with all myself.” But it wasn’t enough. It never has been.
“I’m happy it was you here with me…à la fin.” No one will ever compare to you and if you want me dead, I have no reason to continue. Here’s my life. I’m happy you’re the one to take it. Because I love you.
Lestat would die for Louis, not only to protect him or save him, but simply because Louis asked him to. No matter how this scene is revisited, that facet to their relationship exists and Louis knows it exists.

Also, just FYI: This is the same article where Sam 'ultimate feminist' Reid spouted gems like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And when recounting filming 'Lambs of God', and spending a month and half borderline hypothermic AND his entire lower half encased in a plaster cast, he describes it as 'a bit tough'...
Tumblr media
And...
Tumblr media
Damn!! When that man commits!
He commits!
Ever wondered where Sam Reid vanishes to between filming and media appearances?
He's farming.
Apparently, he goes home to his family's cattle station in rural NSW, where he spends his time doing animal husbandry, regenerative farming and manual labour around the property.
Tumblr media
After working the farm, I wonder if jumping back into filming in Prague was a shock?
It must feel intense to transition between such extremely different lifestyles, schedules, skillsets, knowledge bases etc, etc. It's huge, but it sounds like he looks forward to going home between seasons. Gives him time to reset and ground.
I also wonder if he ever invites his co-stars back to visit the farm? I bet Jacob and his young family would love it!

it's SO funny that when asked what he had to do to prepare for his role in IWTV Sam Reid says he had to learn how to play the piano, learn to speak French, Italian, and English with a French accent. Bailey read IWTV religiously and added her own comments, and kept an actual fucking journal she wrote entirely as Claudia. meanwhile Jacob Anderson, when asked the same question, just responds with “oh nothing, i was already emo”. icons and legends only

Why do you think this interview is happening?
As the entire Dubai storyline is new, we just don't know where it's all heading, but I'm utterly fascinated!!
There are so many amazing theories! I've summarised my favs below:
THEORY 1: - The interview is for Armand/Daniel
This theory argues that Armand and Daniel's relationship will mirror the books. In the books, Armand was obsessed with Daniel (stalked him for years), then they were a couple for 8 years before Armand turned him. Armand desperately didn't want to, but Daniel was dying (substance abuse) - it was turn him or lose him.
This theory suggests that in the show Armand wiped Daniel's memories years ago, but still loves him. He has been tracking him closely, and upon finding out that he's dying, he freaks out.
He can't stand losing him, so, he has Louis repeat the interview (to reproduce the process that originally brought Daniel to him). He pretended to be human so Daniel had the opportunity to connect with him as an equal, a proper companion (like how Lestat hid his Cloud Gift from Louis).
THEORY 2: - General Vampire Unrest
This theory argues that there is unrest in the Vampire world and that the interview is about provoking Lestat into finding them. This suggests that Dubai storyline takes place either before 'Prince Lestat' or 'The Vampire Lestat', and that they are trying to get him to come to Dubai to help them sort out the unrest (as in the beginning of 'Prince Lestat'). Basically, Daniel's book is like Benji's radio station, begging Lestat to come to them.
THEORY 3: - 'The Groan' is Those Who Must Be Kept
This theory argues that 'The Groan' we hear many times throughout the Dubai scenes is Those Who Must Be Kept waking up. That's a HUGE problem because they would enslave the human and vampire races. (Possibly, the apartment in Dubai is Marius's house - It is his painting is on the wall).
They need Lestat's help to pacify/deal with them, so the interview is a way to get his attention. Also, we know Lestat has already met them before (he mentions this in episode 6) so it's canon that he knows them.
THEORY 4 :- 'The Groan' is Lestat
This theory argues that the show takes place after Memnoch and that it's Lestat groaning in despair. This supposes that (some of) the events of TVL, QOTD and ToTBT have already happened. At this point in the books, Lestat is semi-catatonic, but wakes up to save Louis when he attempts suicide. Earlier, he also helps Armand by culling a huge amount of vampires which were threatening the safety of the city. As Armand says in the show, the interview is basically a suicide note. So, this interview could be about getting Lestat to wake up by provoking the rest of the Vampires to try killing Louis.
THEORY 5a:- The Interview is for Louis
This theory supposes that Louis is a captive/prisoner of Armand, and that he is pretending to love him, but actually wants to escape. It argues that Louis is planning to publish IWTV to provoke Lestat into action and save him from Armand (and the vampires who would try to kill him). This one suggests that Armand loves Louis and is controlling/passifying him to 'protect' him from himself.
This theory also suggests that Armand is behaving like a caregiver, and allowing Louis to do the interview as a form of therapy. But that he has no intention of allowing Daniel to actually publish it (as he knows it's a death sentence for Louis).
THEORY 5b:- The interview is for Lestat
This theory is similar to the one above, except that it proposes that Armand will allow the book to be published. This is to provoke Lestat to come to them (either so Armand can kill him or because he is in love with Lestat too). And that he is pretending to be human both to avoid being mentioned in the book Daniel will publish, and to manipulate/control what Daniel will write about his past (the Theatre of the Vampires etc).
And that's just the start! There are so, so, so many more. And so many unanswered questions. I can't wait till season 2, to find out!
Personally, I think it's a combination of several (1, 3 and 5b).
Which do you think is most likely?
Do you have a different theory?
Anything to add?

Lestat the Rockstar?
Apparently, 'Rockstar Lestat' will appear in Season 3 of Interview With The Vampire. Which genre do think? Rock? Metal? Pop?! Folk!?
With Sam's (frankly extraordinary!) capacity and versatility, anything's possible! But before I give my opinion...
Interestingly, Anne Rice did actually tell us who inspired Lestat's Rockstar look. This very attractive (if unfortunately hairstyled) young man:
Tumblr media
Jon Bon Jovi
At the time, Bon Jovi was part of the 80s 'Glam Metal' genre. A subgenre of 'Heavy Metal', with 'Glam Rock' influenced music, make-up, colourful fabrics, and androgynous aesthetic (Yes, please!!)
Tumblr media
I mean... Yeah, Jon in the 80s was fucking sexy!
He had this sultry, sexually charged, yet playful confidence that just perfectly fits Lestat. (Except for the hideous fluffy mullet. Hard NOooo! Rolin, Don't you dare do that to poor Sam!) Jon dominated the stage, hyped up the crowd, and could belt it out like almost no one else!
Tumblr media
But, unflattering hair aside, the REAL question is... Who could be our modern day equivalent?
Who has the same sexy rockstar charisma? Who knows how to command a stage?
I can think of one strong contender... Someone who (surely!) won't be a surprise to many of you!
Tumblr media
Damiano David, the lead singer of Måneskin. An Italian band with fantastic music!! (I'm not kidding, they're actually really good musicians!!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Damiano has the perfect glam rock inspired, genre and gender bending style, (much nicer hair!) and incredible Rockstar charisma!
Tumblr media
See what I mean?!
Also... Tell me Lestat wouldn't ROCK that look!?
Here he is on stage at Coachella:
Tumblr media
Let's all take a moment to visualise Sam in that harness, thigh high boots and pink dress combo.. HARD Yes!! Right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TLDR: In my opinion, Lestat needs a band like Måneskin to be his extraordinarily extravagantly extroverted self. I think Damiano (and Måneskin), could be a perfect modern 'inspiration' for Lestat's 'Rockstar' persona.
What do you think, good fit? Or do you think they'll will go with something different?
What look/style would you like to see for Lestat?
