Hello! Morning 320, 2006-07-30
youtube
What I frankly enjoyed most about this episode was gazing at Gakisan. Not only was she stunningly beautiful, but her reactions were all over the place. That frequently seen miffed look of hers can be found on her face in several dozens of frames. 32:20 Today she and Kamei wrap up the 絶叫CM "screaming commercial" segment by riding, together with Mr. Bunny, the Eejanaika at FujiQ Highland, a notoriously scary roller coaster in which they sit back facing. Neither is able to read off a single item of news. Well I've been doing Tumblr every day for almost a month now. I think I need to relax the pace.

Oda and Yamazaki - Morning Musume '22 Limista autograph event for 71st single, "Never Been Better" time
youtube
From a few months back. If you think this is all gonna be "Pandasan Power" when it's Mei's turn, and talk of cats when it's Sakura's, you're almost not wrong. However, at 49:22 one fan thankfully submits a question asking them to compare each other to some animal other than those.
Sakura surprises Mei by revealing that, although she keeps cats as pets, her favorite animal is dolphin. Mei is kind of like a dolphin, she says. Mei compares Sakura to a talking bird, for the way she imitates Mei's words.

Hello! Morning 314, 2006-06-18
youtube
Can't pick a single favorite moment from this episode so here's a few. - 14:08 A clip is played from the filming of Shabondama in which Michishige dropped her mic and couldn't go pick it up. - 23:55 Yoshizawa races through a tongue twister at ridiculous speed. (fails of course)
- 26:41 In a game in which they must identify the #1 hit song from 2004 from hearing a quick intro clip, Takahashi wanders around the floor oddly, then only when Michishige cries out as if she knows the answer, runs up to the mic...only to turn away from it. Michishige stops short of the mic too. "What the hell are you guys doing?" asks Nakazawa. - 36:18 Takahashi who loves scary rides has no problem at all sounding off the news in the 絶叫CM segment. Niigaki struggles a bit more. - Michishige has a bad day at the World Pucchi Game. She has to go up to the punishment table and drink the bitter tea 4 or 5 times. - 41:00 Abe stands up in World Pucchi Game on the line 食べた食べた親子 ("ate ate parent and child") lol . She thought it would be 親子丼, a chicken-egg dish.

Morning Musume 9th Audition (finalists at camp)
youtube
MM has a had a lot of auditions. I've seen about half of them. Tonight this one came up in my feed and I'd never seen it before. We observe the 5 finalists go through training camp for 9th audition--the audition which broke a then 4-year stretch during which no new members were added to Morning Musume. The winners aren't announced at this time, but we know who they are. Ikuta 13, Sayashi 12, Suzuki 12. The other two girls were 12 and 11. 11!? Talk about robbing the cradle. Didn't they turn Tanaka Reina away from 5th gen because she was 11?
Tumblr media
Sayashi's dancing was unbelievable for a 12-year-old. Suzuki curiously caught Tsunku's interest with some acting and was charismatic, and Ikuta seemed to do a good enough job at everything, so I can already see why the winners were who they were. (But to *really* know I'll need to watch the conclusion)
As always, each girls eventually meets Tsunku in person and performs in front of him the same song selected by the agency. He tells each of them, "Hit me with the energy of your desire to become Morning Musume." Then afterwards asks them how they think it went, and how long they practiced. These questions suggests to me that Tsunku is aware that nervousness or having a bad day might cause a potential ace to not perform as well as she's capable of, and is trying to factor that into his decision-making. In this audition he is clearly pleased with the prospects.
9th gen is the oldest gen represented in the current lineup. When Fukumura graduates fall of next year, Ikuta will become its leader.

Takahashi Ai on Downtown DX, 2019-03-07
This one's not on Youtube. Several female guests appear on it besides Takahashi, and the topic of the whole episode is everyone's husbands.
Tumblr media
For a thing that Aichan likes about her husband Abe Kouji, she names the way he has a dimple above his cheek when he laughs. For a thing that she doesn't like, she names his stinky farting that he does in front of people and makes them have to smell because he thinks that it's funny. She also had her hand raised for "I have to coordinate his fashion for him."
Tumblr media
There is a touching segment at the end in which a heartfelt love letter from her husband is read out loud, causing Aichan to tear up.
Abe, addressing Aichan as "Chan-Ai", expresses his gratitude for how when she was introduced to his parents and they tried to persuade her over and over that for the sake of her future she shouldn't marry their son, she told them over and over, "But he's the one I want!"
Tumblr media
After the letter is read, while Aichan is still crying, Matsumoto says, "Actually, I wrote that letter."

From 36:46 They do the princess-who-won't-laugh segment, which has Goto as a princess trying not to laugh at gags sent in by fans, acted out by Yaguchi and Yoshizawa, with host Abe often getting involved. This wasn't as funny as other episodes actually, but even when the gags aren't funny Gomaki's reactions sometimes are. For one gag her reaction was, "Is that so". For another she was scratching her head.

Hello! Morning 291, 2005-12-05

A Christmas special of Hello! Morning from 2005, and this one has been subtitled! If you don't need the subtitles you can watch here for slightly better quality.

33:55 My favorite part was the showcasing of Takahashi's role in the period drama "Tenka Souran". I'd forgotten she'd done that back in the day. Aichan plays the younger sister of famous historical figure Tokugawa Ieyasu. Looking lovely in kimono, she was winning everyone's hearts on set despite making lots of mistakes.

Michishige Sayumi's Christmas Instalive 2022-12-24
instagram
Earlier today Sayumi filmed an Instagram live in which she ate foods she considers for some reason are Christmas foods, such as a giant pizza and chicken. She told a story of going to Disney Sea with her older sister and riding the Tower of Terror, despite her sister being even less okay with scary rides than herself. Yet it was her sister who ultimately decided they would ride it, then wanted to change her mind, then went ahead with it, then was actually crying at the end of it, then after the day was over told Sayu it was her favorite ride that day. Her sister apparently does not look like her, but their voices are very similar, to the point where when hearing (but not seeing) her sister speak in a video, Sayu thought for a moment, "Was I there too?"

Hello! Morning 192, 2003-12-28
youtube
It was one of those courtroom episodes, where the girls make accusations against one another, the judge hears both sides, and finally the jury (all of Morning Musume) takes a vote to determine whether the accused is guilty or not guilty. - Tsuji is accused of lacking common sense for her age. She had used a desk drawer as a rubbish bin. - Kago is accused of entering Yoshizawa's hotel room (thinking it was Ishikawa's) and abruptly seeing Yoshizawa naked. - Takahashi is accused of sending incomprehensible text messages, not remembering who she sent them to, and passing along chain mails. - Ishikawa is accused of acting out of character by becoming all serious and somewhat scary in a dispute during the sports festival. - Michishige is accused of eating Kamei's candy during dance rehearsals. M: "When someone leaves candy, wouldn't you want to eat it? She shouldn't have put it there!" - Yoshizawa and Ogawa have a "newlyweds quarrel" about Yoshizawa breaking a promise to go buy a matching bracelet with Ogawa. A cheapo 200 yen bracelet bought at a convenience store, lol. Y: Well, it was ugly. O: No! You said yourself you'd buy one! Y: A gag, it was a gag! Look at you taking it seriously. - Lastly, as often happens in these episodes, the judge herself--Abe Natsumi--gets put up on the stand and the others lets her have it with random accusations.

Hello! Morning 317, 2006-07-09
youtube
I enjoyed the Magic Restaurant battle (being an amateur magician myself) but fave moment today was seeing Kamei do the 絶叫 CM "screaming commercial". She has to sound off all the news for the week before the roller coaster ride ends or else she doesn't get lunch. Eri breaks the rules by starting early, but once the ride really gets going--and this is a ride with multiple loops--first screams and then cute whimpers emerge from her. I seem to remember every time Eri did the Zekkyou CM she ended up helpless like this.
Tumblr media
"Kamei looks a little like she fainted", remarks Niigaki watching on with a laughing Tanaka.

Hello! Morning 338, 2006-12-03
youtube
An entertaining episode. Seeing Yoshizawa's face in the Try-Not-To-Laugh-At-Funny-Faces game made me laugh out loud.
Tumblr media
Nono on her turn put coins in her nose, but the other team manages not to laugh. Yossui explains, "We're used to seeing Tsuji put coins in her nose."
Tumblr media
Other great stuff: - The game of spinning around 10 times then trying to run up to a balloon and whack it while still dizzy. - Ishikawa eating from ALL the desserts because the girls failed the "tonda tonda" game. - Everyone talking like a gangster with rolled 'R's throughout the entire episode, and especially in the theater segment, and especially Okada Yui at 36:50.

Hello! Morning 162, 2003-06-01
youtube
The main segment of this episode aims to determine who the next host of Hello! Morning will be. Obviously it's gonna be Yasuda, and the entire proceedings aimed at poking fun of her is scripted comedy. Somehow, by around 10 minutes in, Niigaki is established as that important judge whose ass everyone kisses. When Niigaki isn't pleased with Kemeko's audition the girls start saying things like, "Sorry Niigaki", "Niigaki's in a bad mood" and "Niigaki's eyebrows are lowering". In response to Yaguchi asking, "Why do you call Niigaki Niigaki?" Takahashi in a huff marches up to the panel and declares, "Her name is Niigaki. Call her that." And marches back.

Subs for Hello! Morning
If you follow my blog there's a chance this might interest you. Somebody has used AI (that's artificial intelligence, not Aichan!) to generate English subs for all episodes of Hello! Morning. The link can be found on Aidoru! Online below. https://aidoru-online.me/torrents-details.php?id=229032 No doubt the subs will be quite imperfect compared to human-translated subs, but it might help some understand the gist of what's going on in the show.

Hello! Morning 222, 2004-08-08
youtube
This episode was Tsuji and Kago's graduation special, and what a great episode it was! The gang plays what is probably the most complex game they've played on the show. It involves the appointed kings of two opposing teams, Tsuji and Kago, deploying their respective teammates to stand on a game board and compete in mini-games. When a player loses a mini-game she defects to the other team. Some of the games are standard fare such as arm-wrestling; Yoshizawa and Tsuji appear to have the most muscle in the group, easily defeating all competitors. Or a basketball free throw contest. Kamei, who neither captain wanted on her team on account of her perceived clumsiness, defeats Yoshizawa in a surprising upset! Other games are more ridiculous. They include: - a game of trying to pump up a balloon attached to your opponent to make it pop on her - a game of tossing balls behind you with the goal of getting them to land in a basket attached to your back - everyone's favorite "butt sumo wrestling" - "tataite kabutte jan-ken-pon" (叩いてかぶってジャンケンポン)
Tumblr media
This latter game is Rock Paper Scissors played with a hammer and helmet as props. Whoever wins the jan-ken-pon quickly picks up the hammer and tries to hit (tataite) the other on the head with it before she can put on (kabutte) the helmet. Watching Yaguchi and Tsuji go at this was a hoot.

Ikuta & Nonaka on Kamioto Yoru, 2022-06-30
Not on Youtube, but this 10-minute excursion has Ikuta and Nonaka visiting a new maid cafe in Osaka. They dress up as maids themselves and are evaluated by two resident maids on duty.
Tumblr media
It seemed to me at first as if Nonaka's enthusiasm about this was twice what Ikuta's was. Despite that, Eripon really turns the maid switch on and is judged to have done the better job at the tasks of greeting the 'customer', serving a drink, and decorating food. She acts the maid so well that Nonaka asks her, "Have you been doing this as a side job?"
Tumblr media
As for Nonaka on her turn, she keeps tripping up on her words such that the in-house maid remarks, "Even giggling at your own clumsiness was super cute".
Tumblr media
If I see any other vids of Chel being clumsy and cute I'm likely to blog about them, Chel-loving wota that I unapologetically am.
