Update - moving blogs!
This has been something I've been debating about for a while. Like for a year. But I've finally decided to move blogs :3
When I first made this Tumblr account I did so under the idea that I would just be a lurker, reblogging and never posting. But then I made this side blog and quickly found myself wishing it was my main blog. It also helps me clear out my far too long following list easily lmao. So I've finally decided to make a new account, with my pikmin/art blog as the main blog.
I'll be posting over at the-grubdog (it's still too new for me to properly tag it so link it is!) from now on which I will also be using to re-follow various blogs! :3
I also have two more asks here that I intend to answer over there instead, I'll be sure to @ the askers in the post!
Hope to see you there ^^

Any plans to continue Startouched?
No. I plan on posting all unposted chapters tomorrow. I believe it has a good enough conclusion, something that is somewhat satisfying even if it is a mild cliff hanger (sorry).
I got way in over my head with the project, designing a story that was just too big. I was getting burnt out, and when Pikmin 4 was announced it finally killed my motivation for startouched, replacing it with motivation for new stories.

will star touched pikmin still exist in the au? If not, what were they supposed to be?
Nope! That was actually something I was debating about for a long while; I wanted to change the name of the AU as the thing it was named after - the startouched pikmin - had sense been removed. But most people knew it to be named "startouched" and I couldn't think of a new one so it ended up sticking around anyways lmao.
As for what the startouched pikmin were going to be... first thing to know is that, in this AU, the pikmins' word for "star" and their word for "alien" is the same word. At first, they couldn't comprehend their alien visitors as anything other than stars! Thus the startouched pikmin were literally just the pikmin who had worked closely with aliens and thus picked up on a few things. They'd see photos of Olimar's home town and cities he'd visit and tried to replicate them (emphasis on tried), same to the Koppaite's homes. They took inspiration from these visitors while not quite understanding what they were doing. It ended up making their behavior different enough in the end to warrant them having a different title than other pikmin.

You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.
By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.
I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?

Bernards in SUITS. Idk I wanted to draw him in some fancy suits, took requests from friends, and ended up here.
In order (top left to bottom right), AoT military uniform, a generic pilot suit, something from Cells at Work (I've never seen it sorry), Reigen Arataka, Culumbo, and the royal guard uniform from @bugmangaka's comic.

I've been pointedly refusing to use the term "content creators" to refer to artists anymore, because I want to make art for me and the people I care about, not the endless demands of the algorithm. I'm not trying to Produce Content, I want to make art.
So it is deeply, deeply irritating when I use the word "artist" in a post and it gets endlessly reblogged with people asking "but what about writers? but what about actors? but what about musicians? but what about [x]?"
All types of art are included in the term "artist," god damn it. "Artist" does not just mean "someone who draws pictures."

Was inspired by @kamatha doodles and wanted to draw him with longer hair too. I think it suits him pretty well. Also messed with the shape of his face a bit more.

Oh okay so I have a Pikmin theory.
So for starters: Pikmin 1->2->3 are chronological. Pikmin 4 is a sort of AU of Pikmin 1, precedented on Olimar not making it off PNF-404 alive (sort of a bad-end of Pikmin 1, but also with various other AU differences).
This leads me to wonder... is Pikmin 4->2->3 arguably a canon sequence of events? Cuz either the differences between 1 and 4 have knocked canon off course, and as such 4 will never lead to 2 and 3. Or you can string them together in a way that makes 4->2->3 a plausible canonical chain.
The biggest thing that stands out to me is Louie. In 1->2->3, no one was ever sent to rescue Olimar in 1, and the second he arrives home in 2 his boss informs him that Louie was attacked ("attacked") by a space rabbit that ate the precious cargo of golden pikpik carrots, launching the company into massive debt (and he forces Olimar back to PNF-404 to treasure hunt to pay off the debt.) It's later revealed Louie was never attacked, and he ate the cargo himself.
In 4, LOUIE is sent to rescue Olimar. (He never does. He completely gives up because he forgot what Olimar looks like, and then becomes the biggest pain in your ass after YOU rescue Olimar, because Louie starts taking hostages and running from you insisting he never wants to leave PNF-404 for... some unclear reason?)
This feels like it could break 4->2->3 as a plausible canon, considering Louie is not home on Hocotate to eat his whole cargo (fucker). But I realized something.
Pikmin 4 starts more or less around when Olimar's life support runs out and he dies. You get his SOS signal not long at all before this happens. And TBH, it's probably a good additional in-game month in 4 before you actually rescue Olimar and encounter Louie. In a good-end run of Pikmin 1, Olimar needs to repair his ship and escape PNF-404 before his life support runs out. So in short: Louie fucks up the cargo sometime prior to Olimar's life support running out, and Pikmin 4 is set after his life support runs out. (Technically, they changed the amount of time his life support lasts between 1 and 4, but I figure that was to trim down Olimar's Tale in 4 and not actually for a canon reason).
My point being, Pikmin 4 being largely set after Olimar's life support runs out means Louie had plenty of time to fuck up the pikpik carrot cargo.
Then there's the fact that in Pikmin 4, Louie is desperate to STAY on PNF-404 for reasons he refuses to ever explain. Maybe, because, ya know, he's waiting for the other shoe to drop. He knows he's responsible for plunging Hocotate Freight into what was essentially $10 million of debt. Louie doesn't want to be charged with $10 million worth of theft. And without Olimar bringing home the bottle cap, there's no plan for repaying that debt.
Louie maybe wants to stay on PNF-404 because he's not going the fuck to jail.
All this to say: I think 4->2->3 is actually a completely reasonable canon sequence, if you figure the "Louie lost (ate) the $10 million of golden pikpik carrots" happens in the background, right at the start of Pikmin 4 before Olimar's life support has run out. Olimar's SOS comes through, and President, desperate for his only competent employee back to help fix this, sends Louie to PNF-404 on a rescue mission. On PNF-404, Louie figures himself a fugitive who'd rather spend his days cooking bulborbs than ever return home to Hocotate to potentially face the music of his "this was definitely a felony" crime, and so he kicks and screams and fights to stay on PNF-404...
...And you drag him home anyway, along with poor rescued Olimar who's died and come back to life... just in time for their boss to be like "YOU idiots, go get me out of debt! Go back to PNF-404"

... tbh I forgot all about it. But it doesn't have any lore within it so it really doesn't matter for this post.
I need someone to tell me ALL the lore of pikmin(including spinoffs) in intense detail as my brain is demanding pikmin content and lore.

[cracks knuckles] You came to the right place, my friend, as I regularly check the pikmin tag and have, frankly, too much knowledge on these games and too high a need to infodump.
Have fun reading this, it's going to be needlessly long. Not sure how much you already know so apologies if this goes over things you do know; I'll try to keep the "basics" brief. Also, spoilers for all of the games.
Pikmin
The first pikmin game follows Captain Olimar trying to repair his spaceship after he crash lands on an uncharted planet. He has 30 days until his life support gives out and he dies - presumably of a mixture of asphyxiation (ouch) and oxygen poisoning (youch - and yeah, oxygen is poisonous to his kind!). His only hope rests in these little plant dudes called pikmin who's courage and blood-lust far outweighs any actual competencies. But survive he does; he has a family to return to after all.
In this game he talks about so much cool shit. Hocotate's red moon, how he used to be a mechanic before becoming a captain of his own vessel, how Hocotations consider themselves "born from the sea of stars" to which they will one day return to (which, he kinda has - we'll be getting back to this oh don't you worry), the day he took his son for a a ride in his ship, how he's faced off against fuckin' SPACE PIRATES apparently, how the pikmin have opened his heart to the beauty of an otherwise deadly world... it's honestly quite sweet. He won't leave the planet without recovering the gifts his children got him, either. He is also quite gullible, having been scammed on several parts of his ship such as (but not limited to) the Extraordinary Bolt.
You can also completely and utterly fuck this man up in this game. If you get all the pikmin killed, he'll write about how much of a disgrace of a leader he is and how he won't be able to sleep. Get a pikmin killed by a bomb rock and he'll describe how that last horrified expression is forever burned into his mind. Fuck around without getting any progress done, and he'll think about giving up:
"At this point, I no longer care what happens. Surely, not even a last-minute push can guarantee my success. Now that I think about it, my wife always said that I gave up too easily... What does she know, anyway?!? When did she become a licensed psychiatrist? ...Now I am upset. I guess I will just go to sleep early tonight." - Olimar in an actual end of day log you can get in Pikmin, no I am not making this up.
Living things are fragile, and he is no exception.
He also wonders if, perhaps, it is possible that the pikmin are the ones using him - his smarts, his brains, his leadership - to climb to the top of the natural world. And if you fuck up and get him killed, the pikmin will get to keep this leader! Forever :) Leaflings can't leave the planet, after all, nor are the Rescue Corps coming to save him in this version of the story.
As an aside, don't go touching weird eggs you can't identify. You may just unleash a cosmic horror that is a living ball of pollution which can kill your pikmin in a single touch and who can pluck pikmin from the ground with the sole intent of killing them. Such a beautiful death planet indeed!
Oh the planet may also be fucking irradiated too. Based on the Geiger Counter treasure always going off. But that's neither here nor there.
Pikmin 2
Hi remember how you spent roughly a month on a deadly hell world fighting for your life so you could go home and see your family again. Remember all of the pikmin that died in horrific ways so you could do that. Remember all the struggles and the pain and the wanting to give up but no you can't you have to do it for them. Well now that you're home, your boss said the company is in debt and oh wait there's treasure on the death plant??? Someone needs to go there and get it, and you and this other dumbass (affectionate, I love Louie) are the only ones who can. What? No, there's no time to see your family first. Go back to the planet. Also I sold the ship you worked so tirelessly to repair.
And so begins Olimar's string of misfortunes.
Honestly there's... so so so many lore tibbits revealed in this game. It has so much more text - emails from other characters, piklopedia entries, treasure hoard entries... there's just so much. We now know that Olimar is a huge fucking nerd who knows a lot about biology. He also shit talks his boss on occasion, as we all do. Louie is highly food motivated and kinda a dumbass but we love him anyways. Olimar's wife has a character arc told through the emails that, imo, was handled TERRIBLY like holy shit. Girl fucks up, badly, but realizes this and works to fix things. But the limited perspective and text cap of the emails plus the fact you can beat the game before she finishes her arc just don't do the story any favors.
Oh, eldritch horrors return. And this time it may or may not be an actual fucking ghost. Hard to say, really, we don't know anything about the wraiths. But it looks uncomfortably human and sounds uncomfortably human and is called Amphibio sapiens and Olimar tries to brush it off as not being real and just the result of fear + exhaustion making people see a natural phenomenon as a monster, oh and also it's called a WRAITH like ghost and. Hm yeah no seems ghost like to me. (for legal reasons I must clarify the "ghost" takeaway is just a theory, but the supporting details are all canon).
Also Louie wasn't trying to kill you. Dweevils mimic anything they're carrying. The titian was carrying Louie and some weapons. Yeah, Louie was pissed at Olimar + the others for leaving him behind (which, fair) but it's the presence of the weapons that mad the titian respond to that with violence. Louie ain't no saint but he's not a murderer either.
And, hm, that's a concerning amount of human stuff just laying around. Name brands too - like, that's a duracel battery, that's the lid of a valastic pickle jar, even ragu is in on this??? These are things in MY house! So where are the humans? (your guess is as good as mine.)
Pikmin 3
Koppai is having a food crisis. They've sent out a team of explorers to a planet called PNF-404 to find food. They crash. Collect fruit to feed yourself and gather seeds from. Oh, and Don't Starve!
Koppai may be a desert planet, based on on comment Alph makes, and apparently Koppaites are bad at controlling their appetite. And are shit at planning. They (the three main characters) all admit to this themselves too, so. They (again, the three main characters) are also weirdly racist towards Hocotations on occasion??? Like "Why did he [Louie] steal the rubber ducky?" "It's just his treasure-grubbing Hocotatian blood!" like what the fuck guys.
Oh yeah Louie is here again. Stealing things and eating things he shouldn't and blowing up a concrete wall and needing to be rescued twice. Classic Louie behavior, we all love him.
Alph once again brings up the idea that the pikmin may be using them for their own benefit. Prior to having ever met Olimar. He came to that conclusion on his own. That's cool.
Eldrich monstrosities return. This one has kidnapped Olimar. It also might have the hots for him, idk, but it tries to kill you in horrific ways if you take him. Meanwhile Olimar just wants to go the fuck home to his family god Nintendo please let him REST. This wraith also looks and sounds too human for my liking. You also don't kill it it's still alive at the very end and PISSED that you took Olimar away from it.
This is also the first game to propose the idea that the crash landings are caused by something on the planet. Some force that's on there other than gravity. Even goes as far as to say that the crashes were not accidents.
Hey!Pikmin
NGL I don't think this one is entirely canon for one main reason: it takes place on a planet that is a hell of a lot like PNF-404, down to having some of the same wildlife and human stuff, but it's not PNF-404. It's a different planet. But spin offs were requested, and I'm already having to axe Bloom from this discussion because it has no lore, SO.
Olimar crashes on an uncharted planet once again, this time needing to collect sparklium to fuel his ship. It's noted somewhere in the game that sparklium can be created from items with extreme nostalgia attached to them, which is really interesting. No messed up lore here, though the final boss is a funky eldrich horror plant, so that's cool. And so many cute scenes with the pikmin themselves...
Pikmin 4
Okay I'm running low on steam and have things I need to do so uh for Pikmin 4 I'm going to instead link to some other posts of mine.
The first is the Heritage Theory, which is what that "sea of stars" comment links back to. In short, Olimar did get to return to where his people came from :)
And also this post on Leaflings because they're fucked up little guys.
Bonus post (not made by me) going over some lore only on the Japanese website.
I'm like 99.9% sure this game is like an alternative timeline that happens instead of pikmin 1 + 2 due to their being an OVERWHELMING amount of evidence to suggest this. Also there's like 50ish people stranded on the planet who all crash landed. So that's cool. Still no clues as to why they keep crashing though.
Okay I'm tired I am DONE.
I need someone to tell me ALL the lore of pikmin(including spinoffs) in intense detail as my brain is demanding pikmin content and lore.
