kind of (read: very) angry that momo and majestic’s relationship was never expanded upon or even given light to. like if i was a casual watcher, i’m probably going to barely remember momo and not even remember who her work studies mentor is, and then having that scene with majestic throwing all of the UA students out of the plot to safety

I know we’ve already been through this, but it’s still so great to see Momo go from having low confidence in her own ability and overthinking what to do to, now, clearing her head and taking charge of the situation and doing what she can for her team. I love her development

i love kendo’s hero costume for the most part, but i was reminded that you can’t really do squats in a qipao 💀 don’t worry, my qipao’s okay

for those who are unaware, qipao are form-fitting dresses (they can vary from being tight to being looser, mine is more loose and makes me look like a tube which is very good for preventing my dysphoria lol), but the slit in the dress is usually from mid-thigh or 1/3 down the thigh from the hip, while kendo’s is at her hip (which probably allows her to do anything with her legs since the fabric won’t get tight around thighs for squats+whatnot)

but like. if horikoshi really wanted her to be dressed in chinese attire and still move around, he could’ve give her a changshan and pants. or loosened the qipao around the hips

or if he really wanted to have a ‘qipao look’ he could’ve implied her to have vietnamese heritage instead and given her an ao dai (WITH PANTS. PLEASE WEAR PANTS WITH AO DAI AS THE SLIT STARTS AT THE HIP)

the word salad no one asked for lol. i talk about momo’s future in the manga and my todomomo bias comes in. 

I’ve been thinking about Momo’s potential endgame battle and where she would go. If we go by what the canon narrative is giving us, she’ll probably be with either Kirishima or Ida in fighting ‘miniboss type’ villains or commanding her classmates with taking out small fry villains or Nomu while the boys get the glory.

See, Momo should be a main character, but a) horikoshi can’t write women to save his life and b) if she gets too much development she might end the series too quickly. So how I see Momo’s ranking in the tier of character development is that she’s in between being a main character and a side character. It’s like they got the main cast together for a party and went ‘oh shit! We forgot to invite Yaomomo!’ and invited her at the last minute. Maybe that’s why I hate it when people are like ‘momo should go into Support!’ you fool, she already is in support! She’s a supporting character!

Anyways.

Had BNHA been from the PoV of Todoroki, it’s likely that Momo would’ve been his endgame love interest and she might’ve been more involved with the todofam drama. Those scenes, however, went to Midoriya (and honestly I’m glad. I really don’t want to field off accusations that I ship todomomo because Momo would just be Shoto’s therapist, that’s not how relationships work but that’s irrelevant right now).

What does harm the Shoto and Momo dynamic is that because Momo is stuck as a supporting character, we have no idea how she feels about the future family she might marry into. Now, I don’t read the manga, but judging from the panels I have seen, Momo is never close enough to Dabi to make eye contact, and after the Dabi reveal that outtrended the U.S. election, we don’t really see much of how she’s taking that. The most I’m aware of is that she spoke to Shoto in the hospital post-war that it’ll be okay, but that’s the extent of my knowledge. 

Unless Horikoshi throws in more Todoroki and Momo interactions to make it make narrative sense to fight Dabi with him, I’m going to have to prep myself for when she is to lead her classmates to fight the Nomu/small fry villain fight and let all the boys + Uraraka have their narrative villains to fight.

Narratively speaking, it would make no sense to send Momo to fight Dabi with Todoroki (even though I’m tempted to write that lol), and her character arc seems to be ‘team leader of Class 1-A’ (PLEASE make Tokoyami be like her. Right-hand man lol. I remember a guidebook referring to her as ‘Commander’ and I was like 👀) 

Anyways, all I’m saying is that I’m just going to take my tdmm crumbs when they come, and then do whatever I want. I’m not stopped by things not becoming canon, and it’s not going to start now.

Once, while trawling the internet for todomomo memes, I saw someone comment that the scene where Shoto walks away when Momo is getting harassed by two men and the other three boys of the Bakugo Rescue Squad were sticking up for her was what caused them to not ship tdmm anymore. That’s a bit valid, but I want to dissect that scene a little more since I saw someone go ‘oh look, shoto’s jealous in this scene and didn’t know how to deal with it! how cute!’ which left a bad taste in my mouth lol.

So.

That scene. 

Let’s throw out the whole argument that ‘shoto doesn’t know better’ because I know that’ll go in circles and my response to that is he learns what is appropriate, because I think that this is what went through Shoto’s head:

1) The entire group is dressed like adults. It is going to happen that a bunch of adults, especially drunk adults, aren’t going age-check a group of people walking around in this district at this time. 

2) Ida, Midoriya, and Kirishima are already sticking up for her. Adding a fourth voice would be rather fruitless, since these men won’t back down with three guys defending someone from them already.

3) We cannot use our Quirks in public (no license doesn’t help [yoyo’s note: i think in the world of bnha, it’s generally frowned upon for someone to use their Quirk against someone else unless they really need to defend themself]), so me freezing them would be a bad idea or anyone else decking them would lead to unwanted attention

4) Due to the time crunch (they need to find bakugo asap) and that IdaMidoKiri sticking up for Yaoyorozu is going nowhere, it is best to remove ourselves from the situation at hand

Now, mind you, this is all speculation since it’s a story and the only line from Shoto is ‘Let’s get away from here for now’ (English sub), it’s implied that he decided that the situation was going nowhere and decided to move the group to another spot, while also figuring out that the three other boys were enough defense.

To Momo, however, it could look Not Great since someone she trusts is walking away from the situation rather than sticking up for her, but in a situation where they couldn’t use their Quirks or do any more than saying ‘back off’ to drunk guys who probably won’t take ‘no’ for an answer, walking away from the situation is ultimately the best route out of there.

random opinion here: i think if it was just Momo and shoto alone in this situation, he definitely would’ve stuck up for her, but because the other three boys were on it, he probably figured the three boys were enough to defend her

So the tl;dr is that Shoto likely thought it would be better to remove the group from the situation as the other boys’ sticking up for Momo was not going to anywhere, and Momo would probably be a bit unhappy at first about a classmate of her seemingly to leave her to her own devices, but then realize it was probably better to leave. If anything, this scene can lead up to where Momo talks to Shoto about what he did. Of course, this manga is written by a guy, so the fandom has to do their own legwork into a scene where the two characters talk about this

i’m less mad that momo lost her Joint Training fight and more about the score 

like tokoyami had no idea that mushroom girl was willing to commit a war crime for a win, so i get why he didn’t go for a knock-out strike, but both hagakure and aoyama...like aoyama could’ve fought more and hagakure could’ve slammed manga’s head into a wall and knocked him out

like the score could’ve been (Team A members left - Team B members left) 0-3 and i’d be fine with it

i’d also be fine if midoriya’s team lost one person (preferably m*neta because i hate him lol) to make the stakes feel a lot higher, but whatever. it’s all cool, i have more fic fuel to work with

Okay, so I was thinking about the ending of my hero academia recently, mostly how the ships could be handled, and like... what if we just never get any confirmation about any of them at all?

There's way too many ships and way too many ways to get people mad, so what if it was left open for the readers/viewer to make their own ending?

Like let's say, people think Izuku x Ochaco are going to be end canon bc "Deku is straight" (which btw, why is it such a thing? would it be bad if Deku was bisexual or gay?) but so many people in the fandom believe Kacchan x Deku are going to be end canon (or at least hope so)... then there's Bakugou x Kirishima but it's counter part being Kirishima x Mina-- I'm about to say all the ships at this point.

No matter how I see it, it would create chaos if any of them got confirmed. Sure, it would help knowing with canon material which are the canonical ships but like, if none of them get confirmed I wouldn't be surprised.

i’m going to be honest here.

the summary paragraph before the word salad is that it doesn’t really matter whether or not kirishima is straight, it’s seven years too late for horikoshi to confirm that and CD Dramas are partially canon. Also I don’t know the exact details of the CD Drama, so please come and correct me lol

horikoshi may have intended everyone to be straight but i see the chemistry between all the characters (and yes i can see tdd.k and mmj.r, fandom turned me away from them though so don’t bother me about it), but especially kiribaku. like i’m sorry, but you can’t have this whole narrative of kirishima becoming bakugo’s friend (as a parallel to midoriya and bakugo’s complicated relationship) and being pivotal to the rescue because there’d be no one else bakugo would leave the battlefield for. And the hand clasp? That smile bakugo has in that moment???? their bond???? the way bakugo encouraged kirishima???? 

so if anything, even if horikoshi said that kirishima was straight he’s a) seven years too late to confirm that b) should’ve thought about it before having scenes similar in beats to m/f ships (i.e. encouraging characters via callbacks to previous events) and c) could’ve developed m/f ships a lot better but shonen’s got to shonen (and i’ll admit as someone who enjoys a lot of the m/f pairings, i’m doing the legwork here to make it more nuanced) 

also canon is a suggestion and we’ve all been deep in our headcanons for seven years, so a CD Drama shouldn’t really change anything (they’re sort of canon in the sense that they could happen, but not canon because of fourth wall breaks [see: the CD Drama where Momo goes to an Ennichi Festival and runs into Shoto, timestamped to when Ochako breaks the fourth wall, the animatic is fan-made btw])

and although i have not heard the CD Drama (nor would I understand what was going on lol) it’s possible that Kirishima’s discomfort could be because he’s forced to do something he doesn’t want to in front of other people. From what I’ve heard, several of the boys got hit with a Quirk and are kissing and/or hugging in front of each other, so I’d understand the discomfort there

Going to take a moment to appreciate that by the rule of how stories are written, Ochako and Momo would’ve been best friends since Ochako is the love interest of Izuku and Momo likely would’ve been Shoto’s love interest if the story was in his PoV, but instead Horikoshi flipped that trope and made Tsuyu and Kyoka be their best friends
