finally went thru this album. the combination of punk rock, electronic, and hiphop were on the messier side than eclectic…. i just didnt care for most of the songs.
however, the production is 10/10 crisp and there were various interesting ideas. its definitely worth a listen!
[favourite track: bodycoke] the instrumental is sparse but instantly funky and the bouncy synths reinforce this groove v well. you can hear the guitar lick better after the “bridge”, its super fun

i tried to listened to this more carefully, to compare it with Coltrane
the biggest difference is that sakamoto never switches to major…? from i hear its just the minor vamping throughout the whole track. that coupled with the rapid cascading improvisations convey an immense buildup of momentum. theres also the sickening drum solo.. so the mood is more energetic as a result, whereas coltrane’s was more of a hypnotising experience.
tldr theyre both good songs..
