just thinking about how in Waymond's laundry & taxes speech, the source text of "in another life" is "如果有来生," which is more literally translated to "if we got to live life again" and i'm

I don’t know! We’ll see what the next movie makes me realize about myself. It’s kind of- It’s, I don’t know. I’m so lucky I get to work out this trauma and stuff like that on the big screen. It’s bizarre! But I’m glad you connected with it all.

i think what makes the forger family dynamic particularly special is the fact that yor and loid could absolutely be the cruelest, coldest “parents” to anya due to their professions and traumatic pasts, but they choose not to. loid doesn’t have to cook yummy meals and give anya books and toys, and yor doesn’t have to be doting on anya and fretting over whether or not the kid likes her. both of them are in this fake family gig purely for their jobs, and it would be very easy for them to view anya as a nuisance in their very dangerous, very complicated livelihoods. but instead they willingly and consciously make an effort to give her as normal of a childhood as possible, and they always listen and pay attention to her needs. the scene where anya gets overwhelmed by the crowded space and they immediately leave has been getting people’s attention and rightfully so, because it’s such a good example of how yor and loid both understand she’s a child who needs to be protected. even when loid was trying to abandon anya after his cover was compromised, he sent her off with a message that could get her into a better orphanage.
yor and loid are two people who have been living and breathing violence for almost as long as they can remember, and it’s why they are so careful to protect anya and raise her properly. yeah, their efforts can be a little fumbling and awkward, but they are undeniably sincere. anya knows all of this. she’s constantly aware of yor’s casual assassin thoughts and loid’s calculating spy nature, but she’s also aware of how despite that, they want to treat her well. and i think that’s why the forger found family works so well. they are the pinnacle of a super eclectic group of people brought together by love and care.
