I wish neurotypicals understood that autistic traits aren’t just a series of bad habits to get over. That the reason I stim or the reason I don’t make eye contact 24/7 or don’t like certain textures of things on clothing or any of that deals is how my brain is simply wired to work. Its not just something you can simply supress over time and not end up mentally stressed trying to mask yourself constantly.

Growing up without stim toys be like
- the leg bounce
- sleeves
- bottles of liquid were strangely fascinating
- something heavy on the end of some string
- Doodling ALL the time so now you’re kind of accidentally good at art
- MAGNETS
- jewellery. Especially those weird earrings where they’re a ball covered in gel spikes.
- Covering your hands in glue and peeling it off
- Tapping
- Twirling your hair around your finger until it accidentally turns into a huge knot
- gum
- Stroking pets because it feels good for you not just them
- Any blu tac you found around the house or school would stay with you for many weeks
- Biting the inside of your cheek, fingers, nails
- “we will be using clay in art today” was a god send
- bubble baths
- people think you’re faking needing stim toys now because you’ve gone so long without them and they didn’t notice your little ‘quirks’ before
