If you teach music to elementary level kids:
Remember that they have long days at school too. A lot of the time, if they’re fighting you on something because it’s “boring” or they “just don’t want to,” - they need a break. Let them have five minutes to draw or tell you about their day. Something unrelated to music. They’ll likely be a little easier to work with after they have a breather and know that you understand what they need.
Another thing is that kids can have incredibly fixed mindsets. I know for sure I used to, and it took me a long time to grow out of it. These kids are so scared of making mistakes or not being perfect on the first try that they just won’t try at all. Yesterday I had to spend a good chunk of time explaining to one of my students that I’m not here to judge her. She’s gonna make mistakes, she has to. It’s part of the process, it means she’s learning. If she was perfect at piano right off the bat I’d be out of a job.
Be careful about how you say things. I know it’s obvious, but a lot of people don’t realize the power of changing how you speak to children. “Nice phrasing, let’s go back and look at a couple of those notes real quick… you know the ones? Yeah you know the ones.” Vs. “you played three wrong notes go back and try again.” You see what I mean? And while it might seem kind of silly, phrasing instruction like this does a world of good for making your student feel comfortable and like they can actually accomplish these crazy things you’re making them do.
Of course, kids are hilariously unpredictable things and you can’t always avoid a bit of conflict. But I’ve seen too many kids stop playing music because their instruction time was too forced and stressful.
Just listen to your kids, man.

Hey quick notice
I was looking through some sign ups for the bang and I would like to request that all ships be between Barry and other characters within the DCTV universe. Thank you!

Note
If we don't know what exactly we plan on writing, should we list all possible ships then?
You absolutely can! The purpose of asking which ship you’ll be writing for is so that eventually you can be paired with an artist who wants to draw for that ship.

Hi!
So I’ve seen some interest in the bang over this past month so I thought I’d post a tentative schedule and get your guys’ feedback!
July 15-August 1: writer sign-ups
First check-in: September 1st
August 15-September 1st: artist and beta reader sign ups
September 15: second check in and artist/beta reader claims open
November 15: third writer check in, first artist check in
December 15: second artist check in
And then sometime after that will be posting. I have attempted to spread it out and keep it from interfering too much with other events, but let me know if this puts it right on top of something. Also let me know if you think there should be a pinch hitter sign up, in case of late dropouts.
For original information on the bang check here: https://writemelikeyoudo.tumblr.com/post/173045225614/flash-big-bang-this-post-is-to-see-how-much

Flash Big Bang
This post is to see how much interest there would be in a Flash Big Bang! The plan would be to start sign ups in July and work through to the beginning of December, with beta reading happening sometime in November.
The Big Bang would be themed around any and all Flash/Barry Allen ships, and all comers would be welcome.
If you’re interest in such an event, please like this post and reblog to spread the word. Thank you!!
