wait im thinking about a whumpee who kept a journal throughout like their entire life (or at least since before whatever trauma they've endured) so their friends post-rescue either find the journals and read them or whumpee even offers them to their friends as a way of showing what they were like before or articulating their feelings without having to say anything out loud..,,... and there's just such a difference between before, during, and after.....,,,,,,

thinking abt a whumpee who tries to escape with the help of a rescuer and gets to the most important part of their escape (overcoming physical barriers, sneaking out without triggering alarms, etc) and makes a slight mistake, and for a split second they just think "well, this is finally it" and are fully okay with it if they die as a result of their mistake.
and then they realize that the escape is actually still going as planned and they choose to put a pin in the realization that they came to terms with their own imminent death so quickly.

i love when a rescued whumpee slowly drops details about their life to their new friends and the friends try to mentally catalog everything because they know so little about whumpee and they share so infrequently

for some reason something thats almost always included in any plots of mine involving whump is the whumpee somehow coming into caretakers life in a way that doesn't reveal everything they went through to caretaker, so caretaker maybe thinks that whumpee has just had a rough life but nothing too crazy, and then after a while whumpee eventually tells them everything and caretaker realizes that whumpee has had a much much worse life than they previously thought 🤭

i kinda love when a character just cannot catch a break. like theyve had an absolutely insane amount of bad things happen to them to the point where it's statistically a miracle* that all of these things happened to one person.
*bad choice of word but i couldn't think of anything else lol

thinking about a caretaker who gets sick a lot accidentally passing along most of their sicknesses to a whumpee who's pretty far along in their physical recovery so when they're both sick they end up taking care of each other because they're pretty much in the same exact condition

To be so completely honest and real and authentic I like the caretaking/recovery aspect the most (like significantly more) because I like seeing a character have friends who care enough about them to like. be there for them through it all because I've never felt like I had friends that I was close enough to for them to care about me like that 😋 Also I like seeing a character have their friends be all worried about them because I've always wanted those kinds of friends that a lot of characters have 😋
What gets people into whump?
Like, what was their first experience that got them to want to see their favorite characters being tortured, humiliated and all beat up?
Idk, but I'm really curious about what got you into whump, if it was something you liked since a kid or if you just saw it on Tumblr and be like: "oh, I like this. There are people suffering here"

thinking about an inexperienced caretaker seeing that some of whumpee's huge bruises have turned yellow/green and not being certain if it's just from them healing or if it's an indicator of something like an infection

I might've already posted about this but I LOVEEEE when a character is suspicious of another character and all of their friends think they're paranoid or jealous and then the person they were suspicious of ends up actually being evil like!!!! they told you so!!!!!

thinking about a whumpee being socially isolated from their rescuers/caretakers by a language barrier. like even as their physical wounds heal, they can't actually have a conversation with anyone. not only can they not talk about and process what happened to them, they can't socialize in even the most basic ways.
