A message from our very own DH about making YOURSELF feel good and stop changing you for someone else.
Rant regarding stupid, judgmental people and society as a whole.
So, a friend of mine posted some ecard thing earlier saying Will and Jada Pinkett Smith need to do a better job of raising their 12 year old daughter because she shaved her head, sings about partying, and got her tongue pierced.
It’s fucking hair.  If Willow wants to have a specific style, is cutting her hair hurting anyone?  If you cut your hair are you hurting anyone?  No.  Do whatever the fuck you want with it.  Make you happy.
My parents used to let me have parties when I was that age.  We would rent movies and eat popcorn and drink soda and play video games and when I was in junior high we wrote and directed an entire movie and filmed it on my street.  She isn’t singing about getting fucked up, 12 year olds party too, they just party differently.
I’m undecided on the tongue piercing.  I’m not a parent.  Would I let my 12 year old?  I don’t know, I don’t have one, but I am certainly not going to judge parents who do.  Like I said, it isn’t harming anyone.  I would never let my kid under the age of 18 get a tattoo — shit is permanent — but you can take out a fucking piercing.
Then, a woman comments that Willow is “following the herd” by doing these things.  Uhm, fucking what?  As a woman who has shaved her head on multiple occasions, works at a salon, and has a purple fucking mohawk, let me tell you — that is not the herd.  That is not what the majority of people are doing.  That is not society’s standard of beauty.
And this is what completely enrages me.  Saying Will and Jada should raise their child better is like saying that my mother and father should have raised me better.  While I still struggle and ask for help on occasion at 28 years old, I try to do it as rarely as possible.  I work a job where I’m making good money, I own my own place, I take care of myself, I take care of my pets, I buy my own food, I put gas in my car, I pay my bills, I’ve had the beautiful opportunity on several occasions to work for wonderful, talented musicians and given the opportunity to travel this country and none of this is for filling society’s standards of beauty — it’s for the fact I’m fucking perseverent, hard-working, dedicated, and loyal.  You know, the important fucking things my parents instilled in me at an early age.
I turned out a-oh-fucking-kay.  I didn’t ever do drugs in high school.  Not once.  I didn’t go out getting drunk.  I felt comfortable talking to my parents about anything, and still do.  When I have a problem and need some advice, they are the FIRST people that I call.  When I’m having a bad day, I call my mom and dad, because I know they will listen and not judge me.  Parents are there to listen and guide their children to make a decision that is not harmful to themselves or others, to teach them to be strong, self-sufficient kids so they can be strong, self-sufficient adults.  If it isn’t harming your kid, if it isn’t harming anyone else, then what the hell is so wrong with it?
I have young girls sit in my chair, “I want to be pretty.”  They don’t even know what they think pretty is.  They don’t know what they want.  They want to be pretty to society’s standards, not to their own, because nobody ever told them they can wear their hair differently and still be beautiful.  I have grown ass women sit in my chair who don’t want me to cut off “too much” because their boyfriends/husbands will be mad.  Like it’s their significant other’s hair?  It’s. Just. Fucking. Hair.  You have to wear it.  You have to live with yourself.  You’re the one who lives in your head all day.  I would much rather feel beautiful to myself than worry about feeling beautiful to somebody else.
Maybe I’m biased because I’ve met Jada and she said I was hot and she loves my style, but that just goes to show you don’t have to think in the little box those beauty and glamour magazines throw at you to be beautiful, sexy, or hot.
I don’t fit society’s standards of beauty.  I still have men who are attracted to me, I have the most amazing, loyal friends on this planet — and why?  Probably not over my hair, or how I dress, but probably moreso my character and the fact I have at least some sort of confidence and self-assurance and don’t need somebody else to justify what I am or am not doing.  I have a fucking purple mohawk, that doesn’t make me less attractive or deserving than the chick with blonde highlights and long hair.
Wear your hair and dress for YOU.  Make YOURSELF feel beautiful.  Be happy with YOU.  Everyone is going to have some sort of opinion about you, but the only opinion about you that matters is YOURS.

Our friend Tommy Church after the Mushroomhead/Gemini Syndrome show in Wichita, KS at the Cotillion.  We went to some bar called Side Pocket and Tommy decided to bless us with his best Danzig impression!  Pretty spot on if we do say so ourselves.  Brief appearances by Rick and ML.
Thanks to our brothers in Mushroomhead and Gemini Syndrome for the hospitality and amazing shows!
If you were there, big shout out to ML for controlling the fog machine during Gemini's set!
