It's a comedy I say to myself as I write another scene where an emotionally troubled women struggles to connect with others.
People will laugh I say as the woman and her father have the kind of argument that breaks up families.

I have once again written a dinner scene where Marisol absolutely nukes her interpersonal relationships. I think we need to make sure she just eats alone from now on.

Happy Audio Drama Sunday! ✨
I've never done one of these before, but there's no time like the present, right?
This week, I've been caught between relistening to The Silt Verses and also trying to catch up to the latest episodes of WOE.BEGONE at the same time, so those shows have been on rotation & keeping me company while I'm in the midst of packing to move again soon and/or chipping away at the seemingly endless slew of projects! For the coming week, I've already heard Episode 1 of Wanderer's Journal, but I'm definitely looking forward to a relisten after the show's public release in a couple of days.
In SPACE SPECKS @spacespeckspod news this week, we're finalizing the script for our pilot episode, editing a new show teaser, keeping up with our crew call, and our lovely artist is finishing up some character art for our casting announcements soon!
And in the Podcast Book Club @podcast-bookclub realm, we're celebrating our 1 year anniversary this upcoming weekend with a Marathon event. Alongside this, we've got a trio of new shows about to start in the server, so this is a great time to join in with us.
Tangentially, the end of Podcast Jam @podcastjam is finally on the horizon! We've just passed the halfway point of scriptwriting et al, with the weekend after next being Jam Weekend, where everyone might begin to regret the "edit and record everything within a few days" part of the event. Then it'll be a little over a month from now (May 25!) until those pilots will be publicly available for everyone's ears :)
Have a great week, friends!

Okay, so my writing for Season 3 has taken a mighty unexpected twist (I'm focusing more on plot! Plot! Me? Who could have seen it coming) and to make sure I'm actually able to make something that ties up all the threads introduced in the previous seasons I am gonna have to spend today listening to the whole show and taking notes on what I do or don't what or what I forgot. I'm also hoping it will trigger some ideas.
I haven't listened the to the show all together (in fact I think the last time I even heard an episode was sometime last year and the only time I regularly listen to the show is when we are finalizing the episodes in post) so I'm quite excited.
We have made a fantastic project, but because I know it so well and I am, more or less, always working on the next part, I rarely actually go and just reflect on it.

Last Song: Rachmaninov Piano Concerto #2 in C Minor OP #18 (I'm writing and this a song I like to pretty much put on loop when I write cause the second movement is just so pretty and it doesn't have any words which can be distracting)
Favorite Color: Green, that's why the logo looks the way it does.
Currently Watching: Benson. The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Abbott Elementary.
Sweet/Savory/Spicy: I have currently been eating enough sugar to make the residents of Candy Land very nervous I honestly need to pull back.
Relationship Status: This is a place of business, Sir! Not the local gossip hole!
Current Obsession: I recently had a succession of sleep-addled thoughts about the Indus River Valley so that and other Bronze age Civilizations are where my interests lie. Also, I'm learning Spanish so the Spanish language is also what's going on for me.
Last Thing I Googled: Books my library carries about the Indus River Valley Civilization, how Grapefruit deals with bipolar medications, and some very compelling stuff on cow manure and tomatoes.
Tag: @starsfellradio @camlannpod and @starshipqstar
Tag game! nine people you’d like to get to know better
Thanks for the tag @laurenshippen I haven't done a tag game in FOREVER!
last song: "Hold Me Tight Or Don't" by Fall Out Boy
favorite color: shifts between shades of blue/green but rn I am digging Forest Green or Teal!
currently watching: nothinggggg D: I usually follow one tv series at a time and I am in between shows! WWDITS when will you return from the war
sweet/savory/spicy: I have such a sweet tooth
relationship status: :)
current obsession: still in my Baldur's Gate 3 hyperfixation
last thing you googled: how to get a specific achievement in BG3 LOOK I can stop any time!!!

Fun fact: Small Victories was originally supposed to be a choose-your-own-adventure where the audience picked what Marisol did next.

today i finished scripting a first draft of the final episode of starship iris. this means i now have a rough draft of the whole final season.
...i was gonna say something about needing to process my emotions by lying down on my floor for a while but it's night now and probably what i should do is process my emotions by sleeping.

InCo is so engaging and refreshing as a podcast because it takes place in a cold, lonely, unfair, suspicious universe, and the characters act like it. They’re cold. They’re lonely. They’re unfair and suspicious. They aren’t particularly kind and they’re rarely nice. And you can see the way the world has shaped them, the cold suspicious lonely unfairness of this big selfish universe has reached them. This is not a “the world is cold and dark and unfriendly, but I maintain my hope and kindness and friendliness anyway by the sheer goodness in my heart” story. This is a story where the darkness of the world has gotten to the characters and worn them down. Nova is snappish and rude and untrusting. Jean is harsh and brusque and mean. Hatov is bewildered but also selfish and kind of haughty—he’s above this all! Or he’s supposed to be. No one trusts each other. No one goes out of their way to be nice.
And Nova is inspired by Hatov to try to be better anyway. Having responsibility to someone other than herself again, having someone (like Alula) who does believe in being nice and trusting people again (even if he does it in a rather more naïve and self-centered way than Alula did), does inspire her to try to be something more again. Be more than the lonely closed-off grieving person who keeps her eyes ahead of her and her only goal is the crisp performance of her unappreciated job. She saves Hatov because it’s the right thing to do and then is stuck with him and it drags them both (slowly, kicking and screaming the whole way) into becoming better adjusted people.
So many “hopeful” sff works have people like Nova as a failure state, the sort of people who are either villains or just don’t exist, for letting the bleakness and difficulty of the world get to them. You’re supposed to maintain your hope and kindness and gentleness through it all! Not let it wear you down and make you prickly and snappish and impatient and cold. Nova is interesting and I like her because she lives in a world that’s just tiring and has never been pleasant to her, and the narrative lets her become a less than pleasant person in response. And it doesn’t make her a Bad Person. There’s part of her that wants to be more than this, part of her that made the decision to look out for a stranger and take him under her wing because he’ll die if she doesn’t, but also still part of her that wants to keep her head down and maintain the status quo and the emotional walls she’s built up around herself to avoid anything worse. It feels like she’s going, yeah. Being an adult in a hostile and unfair world is hard and it does make sense to become hostile and unfair in response. And that doesn’t mean that’s all she is.
