I had a dream last night.

Five men met in a Soviet concentration camp. One was a hardline Marxist-Leninist. One was a WWII veteran and an honest worker who couldn't understand why the government he loved so much sent him there. One was a former Forest Brother from Estonia. One was there for complaining about the Communist party. They were all middle-aged, some of them even older, but the fifth was a young guard at the camp who witnessed the torture the inmates were subjected to, and defected.

I don't remember the part of the dream in which they escaped and what they did afterwards. I only remember that the Marxist was the one who planned the escape and died in it. Then I saw the surviving four meet in a dark, dingy pub, many years later, to commemorate.

So back at the camp, they had signed an impromptu contract to help each other. It was when the guard had noticed them and when they had begged (the Marxist) or threatened (the rest) him not to give them away. They had lacked the proper means to fashion a contract, so they had to sign it in blood. So later at the bar, the guard pulled out a printed out contract with the same words as back then. He also gave them out small stamps, etched with the name and creed of each, for example the Forest Brother's one said "Freedom for Estonia". They then each signed and stamped the new contract. The last stamp, that of the Marxist, was placed by the guard.

It amazed me how despite not knowing how their lives had been after the escape, I could so strongly feel the spirit of camaraderie in the dream. It was like I was there and they had told me everything about how they were on the run, crossed borders and risked their lives to help each other out. I don't know, but I've rarely, of ever felt as much emotion watching a movie, let alone having a dream.
