THE MANY MEANINGS OF "HEY.": A PROMPT LIST.
i often have these ideas that have no real origin, but i can actually tell you precisely why my brain wanted this: i was listening to "hey, soul sister" by train on a loop and i got thinking abt the fact that we really do just say "hey" for so many reasons. and i wanted to make that your thought of the evening! so happy november, bon appetit, wrap up warm, DO NOT ADD TO THIS LIST, and enjoy your writings!
[ GREETING ]: sender says "hey" as a greeting to the receiver.
[ ATTENTION ]: sender, having just noticed something strange or remarkable, calls for the receiver to get their attention.
[ REASSURE ]: in a bid to steady the unsettled receiver, the sender lightly says "hey" to help them calm down.
[ ANGER ]: the sender sharply snaps "hey" at the receiver, clearly angry about something the receiver has just done or had done in the past.
[ IDEA ]: having been presented with a predicament, the sender suddenly unravels a solution, introducing it to the receiver by saying "hey…".
[ GUILT ]: having just done something that they know the receiver won't be pleased with, the sender sheepishly greets them once they arrive to see the damage.
[ GOSSIP ]: the sender turns to face the receiver conspiratorially, clearly eager to share some new gossip with them.
[ URGENT ]: the sender rushes to the preoccupied receiver, desperately shouting "hey!" to get them to focus on a far more pressing matter.
[ SOOTHE ]: after finding the clearly distressed receiver, the sender pulls them into a careful embrace, gently murmuring "hey…" to try and soothe them.
[ SMILE ]: the sender (who hasn't been smiling up until they actually see the receiver in front of them) lights up with a smile as they greet the receiver.
[ TEARS ]: the sender greets the receiver while very clearly in tears.
[ FAKE ]: alternatively, the sender (who has just been crying in private) hastily wipes away their tears and tries to greet the receiver casually (to varying degrees of success).
[ WARNING ]: when the receiver begins to say things about subjects that are off-limits to the sender, the latter gives them a warning by saying "hey…".
[ LAUGH ]: having found the receiver to be decidedly unhappy, the sender lightly catches their attention before doing something to make them laugh, or at the very least, grin.
[ PROTEST ]: after the receiver does or says something that the sender deems to be unfair, the sender tries to exact justice by saying "hey!".
[ BREATHLESS ]: having clearly just sprinted down to the receiver, the sender tries to catch their breath while greeting them.
[ SAVE ]: after just saving the receiver's life in a very heroic fashion, the sender smoothly greets them while helping them escape.
[ FLIRT ]: the sender meets the receiver in a social setting, and attempts to flirt with them with the very traditional pick-up line: "hey.".
[ APOLOGY ]: the sender, having recently done something that hurt or upset the receiver, reunites with them and addresses the elephant in the room by greeting them with a sincerely apologetic tone.
[ AWKWARD ]: after a particularly rough first encounter, the sender meets the receiver again, and awkwardly greets them with more than a touch of embarrassment.
[ GENTLE ]: having found the receiver in an emotionally compromised position, the sender closes the door and approaches them carefully, gently saying "hey…" to try and get them to communicate what has upset them.
[ HARD ]: preparing to deliver what they both know will be bad news, the sender tries to prepare the receiver by quietly greeting them in a solemn tone.
[ WAKEN ]: walking into the receiver's bedroom, the sender gently shakes their shoulder to waken them, and whispers "hey." to encourage the process along.
[ WHISPER ]: the sender gently whispers "hey" to the receiver to discreetly get their attention without drawing the attention of others.

roleplaying habits questions. 6 and 24.
6. Do you have ideal writing circumstances when you can do a lot of drafts or tackle really long ones very easily?
Not really. Watching playthroughs of the game definitely strengthens different parts of my muses (i.e. markus in the junkyard) and I gain a lot of ambition that way. I think it depends too on how invested I am in the thread. If I'm very invested then it's easy to write for that specific thread the moment I get a reply (these are usually whumpy threads, and no one is surprised). But for the most part, I just get in my writing moods and I'm able to write everything and it's great. But other times, the words just aren't there (that's now.)
24. What's your thought process when you format? Any unspoken rules you follow?
I just like things to be aesthetically pleasing, but easy to read. I have no idea why I always write in all lowercase, it's just something I've started over the past couple of years. I'm also big on dashes — like this — but I'm not 100% sure why. I also prefer to break things into smaller paragraphs versus big ones (like the answers to these questions lol) because it personally makes it easier for me to read and comprehend. I also have my fancy quotations that I copy and paste, then put an extra space at the beginning and end of those. I have absolutely no idea how all of my quirks started, but my writing style is usually pretty consistent!

the android blinks several times, eyes focused on the ceiling. he can see the error messages flashing, but they're hard to read, let alone interpret. ❝ i don't know. ❞ definite panic in his voice. ❝ nine? nine minutes, i think? ❞ he manages to stutter out.
a hand moves to cover the wound on his chest, a futile attempt to slow the timer down. ❝ i don't know how much longer i can stay awake. ❞ it didn't really matter, he supposed. cole was with him, and going to get him the help regardless. was there really a point to staying awake, other than giving feedback about his condition?
"I gotcha." Cole carefully lowers Connor to the ground. There's a thought that he should grab his emergency backpack, but it was on another floor. It would take too long, so the elder kneels next to the ex-hunter instead.
"How close are you to shutdown?"

Alice 🤝 Connor:
Having huge-ass heads (as noted by @incomprehensible-phasmid). Also having huge brown eyes.
Being cold. Literally being able to freeze to death
Having to deal with unsober men with anger issues, potentially getting killed as a result
Being told to stop playing with something by said men because it pisses them off
Letting their companion know that they're participating in illegal activities
Having a bad gut feeling about being guests at some rich man's house

mvnces asked: “You left me.” - human or android but for the brother angst<3
Tumblr media
❝ i didn't have a choice. ❞ DEFENSIVE. it's unlike him. ❝ i was trying to protect you. ❞ yes, it's true. connor left without a trace just moments after markus finished his speech. he didn't say goodbye. he ran. sprinted. it wasn't safe. the way he felt his hand move to his back coat pocket, fingers wrapped around the gun's grip — it scared him. it was agonizing, feeling that loss of control.
so he hid. went to an abandoned shack outside the city. destroyed the gun. he thought he'd found kamski's emergency exit, but he needed time to make sure cyberlife wasn't going to resume control. what if it was a trap? he spent two weeks in stasis, then another two weeks hiding out in the shack. it'd been a month since he left detroit. and now here he is at his brother's feet. ❝ i'm sorry. okay? ❞

god, he was tired of crying. it was one thing after another. in the eight long years he'd been present on this earth, he'd only cried once. he didn't know grief. he didn't UNDERSTAND it, up until a few months ago. becoming sentient was starting to feel more like a curse than a blessing. he doesn't regret what he did, but a part of him does miss the simplicity of life with carl. now he'd never experience it again. never talk to him again. he was gone. he wonders if carl would be proud. he'll never know.
❝ they said he was alone, ❞ are the first words that come. ❝ i should have been there. i should have known. ❞ irrational thoughts flood his mind. what if carl had forgotten about him? what if carl resented him, and that's why he never reached out? he lets the thoughts come and go. it's a technique he'd used with carl to help with his anxiety. let the thoughts come to you, acknowledge their presence, and let them go.
markus pulls away finally, body language changing a bit. he takes a step back, hands grabbing uncomfortably at his arms: maybe embarrassment? maybe he just needed some distance.
Words didn't need to be spoken for Cole to know what happened. He was all too familiar with grief. In those two seconds before the dam broke, he saw that agony in Markus and rushed in to hug him.
"I know," he whispers, his hold tight as he sways in place, as if that could soothe anything in this situation. "I know. It's ok." No, not it's ok as in there's nothing wrong. It's ok as in it's ok to hurt, to cry, to be absolutely shattered by whatever loss Markus has just been hit with. It's ok to feel what he's feeling right now. Cole's only hope was that his presence made it marginally easier.
