“You are eight years old and you find a snake in the dirt on your way to school. It’s been cut open something animal and ragged, left out to the dust and sun. Your friend dares you to touch it. But you don’t because it’s a snake and there are stories about kids out here who never respected dead things. You are thirteen years old and you drive your father’s old truck out past the city limits. The desert is blue and orange and red, but everything turns purple at night. Something in the distance howls and you shake with it, lock your doors when you get home. You are fifteen years old and you realize the lights out over the desert aren’t signs. No motels out there; nothing, but the empty expanse of the desert. No one looks at the lights for too long. That’s what your mother says, anyway. You are seventeen and you wake up because a car rips past your window too loud, blowing smoke. You think about leaving. A boy with quick fingers asks you why. “Nothing ever stops out here. The dust never settles.“ He is looking at you in the reflection of a glass bottle that used to be tequila. He asks: “Why would you want it to?” You are twenty-one and you know, you know, you know: there are too many dead things out here. Snakes and coyote and kids with fast cars. Too many ghosts and never any haunting. You’re so afraid of becoming a ghost, but you are more afraid of what will happen if you don’t.”

what i want to say: fight club is about the hurt so many men feel and the toxic masculinity that doesnt let them heal. they dont know how. they want to cry but the only time where theyre allowed to is when people think theyre on their deathbeds. so they turn all their hurt and anger and pain outwards. its about knowing that the world is fucked up but not knowing how to fix it. and instead of figuring out how to heal it they decide to destroy it and start over again. an option that seems so appealing to them, to burn it all and rise from the ashes like a strong and powerful phoenix. but none of them are learning how to build, theyre just learning how to destroy. its about the dangers of cults, how all these men who grew up with shitty fathers and ripped up and shitted on dreams see tyler who seems to be the peak of everything. hes strong hes smart hes charismatic and he seems to understand their struggles so it makes sense them to follow him and to carry out his work. it gives their lives new meaning, such is the appeal of any cult, and the leader is so persuasive that hes convinced actual real life people outside of the book and movie to believe him. to look past the satire and to want to be him. its about obsession. its about wanting. its about how modern day society and especially capitalism and consumerism is fucked up and spoiling and corrupting humanity but the way to fix it isnt by an attack as so many men want to believe. you cant just take sledgehammers to the machine without all the people already in the system suffering. these men dont care if there are casualties they want the world to be plunged into a new dark age they want a new flood so they can start it all over but thats not. the. way! it backfires and the people in project mayhem get hurt and die and their loved ones get hurt and die and the main character realizes he cant stop this and whats sown must be reaped and its about men with hurt inside them not being able to deal with it not being able to sleep or cry because of a system THEY SET UP which is now backfiring ONTO THEM and instead of reconciling with their tender side they just keep fighting and keep throwing punches and HOPE that the blood and bruises will cover all the internal turmoil so they never have to face it
what i say: fight club is actually about gay sex

"No because Ferrari is literally a religion, it's about the bond, the rich history, the connection between the team and it's fan. Like fuck, I can't even find the words to describe it. The dedication, the faith, that the team and fans have is incredible. They never forget their heroes, Michael Schumacher will always be a legend, he was and is the ultimate formula one driver (in my opinion and before anyone shoots me and is like but what about driver x y or z, my childhood was shaped firmly by Michael's golden age at Ferrari so I'll acknowledge that I'm biased af but Michael's impact on the sport is still seen today, ten years after his final race) and now we see them rallying around the predestined one, the legend in the making, it's not a question of if he'll win, it's a question of when. Charles embodies that faith, that dedication, the myth the legend of Ferrari in body, mind and soul. He worships his team and will worship it forever. And he's worshipped for it. I'm so glad to be alive for this era of F1 because between him and Max it will truly be unforgettable.
"Oh and Redbull... I was raised in the Michael to Sebastian pipeline and Redbull is the only other team that has captured me in the same way as Ferrari. Redbull have been vilified and hated on since the beginning but the fans have banded together and gone, "you know fuck them, this is our team and we'll have the last laugh" and we have. If Ferrari is a religion, Redbull is a vendetta, a fuck you to all who doubt or hate them because anything anybody else can do, Redbull will do it better. And the orange army, what's their to say? They saw a boy with incredible talent represent them and put everything they could behind him, just pure adoration, it banded a country together who had limited experience with F1, similar to Michael Schumacher and Germany, like yes there were German drivers in the past but he lit a spark that still burns to this day passing it on to Seb and Mick to name a few, and made almost the entire country fall in love with the sport which Max has done now in the Netherlands.
"And Max and Charles... My God, their rivalry has been predestined, both incredibly talented, both incredibly driven and both yearning to be the greatest in the world. There is already a legend building around them and I have no doubt in decades to come people will be devastated because they weren't around to witness it unfold in real time. They represent the best in their generation, having always been highlighted as being in a league of their own.
"Like fuck, sorry I didn't mean to write so much but I could literally wax poetry about them and their teams for literal years lmfao.
"As for the Merc fans? They'll desert the sport the minute Lewis retires."

you commit every piece of information you can find about him to memory. every little thing you notice is carefully filed away and sealed for future use. every quirk and peculiarity. every single expression and reaction.
you live and breathe him until he's thriving under your own skin and you don't know where the boundaries exist any more. your thoughts and his blur and you always know what he'll do, uncannily in tune so you know just when to strike. the patterns and algorithms behind his mind have webbed their way into yours. every move you make is calculated and specific. every trick you pull has a careful technicality to ensure maximum success.
and finally it's worked. after all the effort and the self torture. the years of learning and watching and effort and frustration, finally it's all come down to this. and you've made it to the top. it feels good. so damn good.
but it's hollow. it destroys you. he's a part of you now. and you know exactly how he handles the bite of failure. and it's not going to be easier for you. even if you've got it figured out by now.
and so you become a ghost. there's nothing more left to do. the world is conquered, and so you rid yourself of it. after you reach the top of the mountain, what's left to do but go back down? but he lingers, thrumming in your veins. you can't get rid of it, erase the years you spent engraving him into your memory.
so when people ask you about him, his chances this season, his driving style, you tell them what you know. you sing his praises and you believe it. you're practically an expert anyway, what with practically a reference book about him lingering in the recesses of your mind.
