I was originally mildly rooting for Edwin and Charles to be a thing but then the Confession Scene happened and you know what?

Yeah, friendship without romance CAN be enough of a motivation to give up heaven and brave hell and devote your (after)life to someone. I'm living for this platonic relationship being the driving force of love in the show. I really like how Charles handled that conversation, and how their love for each other got even STRONGER for the lack of reciprocated romantic feelings.

I'm extremely satisfied with how this turned out, actually.

I reblogged about this on another person's post, but it's too important to me to not have my own post about it.

I'm hearing that some people might be coming for Crystal Palace of Dead Boy Detectives for "getting in the way" of Charles x Edwin, i.e. Payneland.

Let's be clear. I adore angsty friends to lovers as much the next hopelessly romantic queer (sort of) guy. But what we're not going to do is become yet another fandom that denigrates a female character because we see her as an obstacle to a mlm ship. It honestly kind of triggers me, and it can never not feel at least a little biphobic to me. I am sure that is not the intention of the vast majority of people with this take, but that's just what my past experience in the numerous fandoms that have done this makes me jump to first.

I want us to think about this. If Charles is currently or eventually in love with Edwin back, he will be confired bisexual, or some other non-monosexual identity, or just fucking queer and vibing. And that means his attraction and feelings for Crystal, and their ship, should be respected as a part of his story and the story of the show. Let a girl live. Don't erase Charles's attraction to women, and leave space for non-monosexual identities. Let's all be mature queers about this, and breaking the fucking cycle.

We're not about to tear a bestie down just so our male leads can kiss. We're better than that. I hope we can be better than that.

UGH i feel like no one's talking about this enough but THE FEMINIST CONNOTATIONS IN THIS SHOW ARE LITERALLY SO FUCKING AMAZING LIKE???

i just finished ep.5 & the feminist undertones were the clearest in this one!!!! crystal not feeling any remorse for the death of two toxic dickheads™ who drugged a girl & ruined her entire fucking career and harrassed another? YES. FUCK YES. that's 100000% me.

edwin implied that shelby was hysterical!!!!! this ain't the first time. even while solving niko's case, one of his questions were "do women in your family have a history of hysteria?"

well, the history of hysteria goes something like this- the word "hysteria" finds it origin in the greek word "hystera" which means uterus so it was named to be a "woman's disease" & used as a way to invalidate women's emotions. this patriarchal myth is what led people to believe that men are more "logical"/"objective" & have the whole logic v.s. emotion debate in the first place. this myth originated in the West & has remained a massive part of the Western Medicine until 1980 when the American Psychiatric Association removed it from the diagnostic manual. i think charles was just taking a dig at this stupid patriarchal healthcare system that the West (& frankly, the whole fucking world) has when he said "c'mon mate, it isn't his fault that Western Medicine is so limited." i'm not sure but i like to believe that. :'D

last but DEFINITELY not the least, charles really & i mean, /REALLY/ wanted to believe that brad & hunter were the good guys. he basically was chanting "not all men" all throughout the episode & as frustrating as it was to see it -.- I GET IT. his dad used to beat the living shit out of him OF COURSE he's gonna hope that there are better people (especially men) out there in the world. this is more about the abuse he has faced rather than him being a boy & a potential misogynist. we should also not forget how he swung his bat at that Devlin guy 'cause he wanted to save the women from being stuck in that nightmarish loop forever. plus, the main reason why he keeps checking in on his parents is to ensure that his dad isn't hurting his mum!!!! so, honestly i get it when crystal said "i guess all three of us have lost our lives to boys who went too far." </3

are they a generally sane and/or trustworthy and/or stable individual

do they insult ‘dead boy detectives’ immediately upon meeting him
