her eyes narrowed in that moment. he didn’t need to make a verbal threat - he’d already said enough. it didn’t take a genius to read between the lines. but the conversation she’d had with carol was still painfully fresh in her mind.

she had promised. she had sworn to do anything she could to make sure mikhail and nik were okay. 

laynia trusted carol. as warped as that admission now sounded … after everything she had done. after everything she had put the woman through, the audacity she’d had in asking such from carol. but the grace of the other woman in making such a promise. it was sobering. it was humbling, and it hurt. a stark reminder of her betrayal.

laynia leaned forward closer, hands still splayed on the table, eyes alight with anger, ‘ you touch my son - you touch my brother, either of them, and i swear to god, vindiktor … i will find a way to drag you back to whatever hell you crawled out of. ’

she was powerless. literally and metaphorically. the states would not grant her asylum, not when her chequered past had too many gaps in it. not when she could not be trusted to serve them instead of russia - that meant the easiest option for them would to be repatriate her and earn some brownie points for doing so.  what charge could the government use against her ... oh, he had many suggestions; defection, espionage, treason. kidnapping. murder. it wouldn't take much to put her in the crosshairs for reena stancioff's untimely demise. twist the facts, bend their ears to the tale of her woman wilfully using her powers to secure her return?

' i won't touch them, don't worry your pretty little head about that laynia. you should be more worried about yourself. ' 

that smirk was back on his face again when he leaned back into his chair, voice ringing of a feigned horror, ' what will they do to you when they realise what you've done? ' dark brows knitted together, dmitri leaned forward, reaching out to tuck a stray lock of blonde back behind the woman's ear - his fingers carded through her hair before tightening and he yanked her head closer to him, 

' when they realise that you murdered your successor? we all knew your powers were vast, but to intentionally invade another's body? tell me, is reena's voice still knocking around in there, or have you throttled her once and for all? '
