Seeing Natalia just reminded Cadie of the conversation she had with Annie on the hover. It reminded her that it wasn't just Brutus that hadn't made it back to 13. Of course, Rose had never been in 13 in the first place. But now she'd never have that opportunity. Cadie hadn't thought much about Rose. She didn't think she'd even actually talked to her. She'd just been another tribute in the game, another person in the way of Ezra winning. And then all the events of the rebellion had happened. Seeing Natalia now made her feel a little guilty. But it couldn't be helped.
"You're too kind to me." Natalia had always been kind to Cadence, even when she didn't deserve it. Cadie hadn't exactly made it easy for people to be kind to her. Not unless the person was from two, and even then she hadn't made it much easier for some of those victors. But right now she was grateful for the older victor for never giving up on her.
"I miss home." A lot of her home was here now. Enobaria and Thea were here, physically anyway. Finnick, Annie, Cece, they were all relatively safe too. And if she hadn't come to 13 she'd never had met Juniper. Yet, Cadie was longing for home. Not that she even knew if she'd be welcome in District 2. Cadie sat herself down and just looked up at Natalia. "Do you think we'll ever go home?"
Tumblr media
Natalia had been about to walk away, turn on her heels and retreat back to her own room, when the door opened. She too forced a smile upon her face upon seeing Cadie. "Hey kid," she murmured softly, looking to the bowl of stew in her hands when Cadie asked about it. "Yea I did. I thought you might need a good meal." Of course she too could do with a hearty supper, but she hadn't felt like eating recently, only forcing herself to do so when she knew she'd gone too long.
"Thank you," she spoke as she stepped into the room at Cadie's offer for her to come in. She moved into the room and sat the bowl down. She was glad to see that at least physically Cadie was well enough. So much worry had clouded her thoughts in the time they'd all been apart. Cadie, Finnick, Annie, Johanna, they'd all been on her mind constantly.
"How're you holding up, Cadie?" She wouldn't ask if the younger woman was okay. She knew she herself wasn't okay, she couldn't imagine Cadie was either.

Cadence wouldn't have necessarily called herself a party girl. At least she hadn't been since she'd won her games. Sometimes it seemed strange to her that had only been a year ago. It felt both like yesterday and years ago. Everything had changed then. Cadie was still getting used to it. Especially the attention. Back home Cadie hadn't really had that much attention on her, and she had liked it that way. So it all felt quiet alien to her here. But where as in 2 she felt like she could hide away from the attention, she didn't think like she could do that here. So she let her prep team dress her up, and let the Capitolites buy her drinks. That was what a victor did right?
But she was glad to bump into Cashmere. Cadie wasn't a person that had many friends. Making friends with Cashmere, and some of the others from one had been easy. They were all careers, as well as victors. They had more in common than most of the other victors. "Is it always like this?" She asked, biting on her lip for a second. It all seemed a little boring to her. "It's certainly more enjoyable than last year." That was Cadie's attempt at a little joke. This year was much better for her, considering that last year she was in the arena herself. It felt like the joke fell flat a little. Cadie wasn't overly good at this small talk thing. "Though still feels as exhausting." Just in a different way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was just a viewing party, but she was reluctant to let the evening end, didn't want it to. Leaving meant she had to go keep company with whichever sponsor had bought her for the night. She knew that was why she was here, why the invitation had come addressed by the President himself. So she lingered at the party, using Augustus's doing well as an excuse. Even that she excuse was coming to an end as the career pack tucked in for the night, deciding who would keep watch of the cornucopia first while the others rested up. She had lost count of how many glasses of champagne she'd downed, but as the tray came around carried by an avox she whisked another glass off, sipping as she watched the screen. Anything to prolong her relative freedom.
Her glass was half empty when Cadie came into view, nearly running into her. The blonde quickly cast a look behind her friend to ensure Cadie hadn't been trying to escape someone in her haste. Maybe it was just her own nerves. Seeing nothing out of the ordinary, she turned back to her friend, smile falling easily into place. "No harm, no foul, Cadie." She assured sweetly. She glanced up at the screen when Cadie asked if she were having fun. "Things were certainly a little more exciting a few hours ago, but yea, sure. Are you enjoying yourself?" Making friends with the brunette had come easy enough, they were both Careers, they were both victors. What else mattered?

To be honest Portia didn't really want to be at the party. It wasn't that she disliked parties. It was more she didn't like how everyone that was staring at her. It was what she had become used to though. Even more the events following the quell her name had been out there, with her designing clothes for the most recent victors. But what had happened with Cinna had made her even more gossip worth. It had almost been enough to make her want to not go out. But she knew that would only feed the gossip further. So, even if se hadn't wanted to fully be at the party, she had gone.
She knew who Eris Harrington was. Or well, she had seen her name. And well the last thing Portia wanted was to end up in a gossip column. So, despite the smile that she put onto her face, Portia was wary. "Portia.... lovely to meet you too." Though she wasn't really too sure about that. "Thanks...."
Tumblr media
Location: Capitol party @vengefvlx
Eris brought her glass of wine to her lips as she scanned the room. As far as parties went, this one was rather uneventful, which was a shame. She lived for coming to parties. They were some of the best ways that she got her gossip for her magazine. When the alcohol was flowing people's inhibitions were lowered you never knew what might happen. The scandals that happened at these parties, the affairs and missteps...it was all fair game for her to write about. But this party...it was boring and apparently full of boring people.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted someone familiar. Portia. She still hadn't said where she had disappeared to before showing up on that stage with Cinna. Was Portia a secret traitor? Or a loyalist that fell into the wrong hands? Eris had no idea, but she hoped to find out. Putting her empty glass on a passing tray, she grabbed two flutes of champagne and made her way over to the other woman.
"Eris Harrington. It's a pleasure to meet you. Champagne?"

Cadence knew it wasn't fair to put all of the blame on Calista. It wasn't as if the woman in front of her had actually had anything to do with what Thea and Enobaria had gone through. But it did leave a bad taste in Cadie's mouth to know what Calista had been free to move around the Capitol when the others had been getting hurt. The rational part of Cadie knew that Calista really hadn't had much choice. She might not even be here if she'd said no? And maybe Cadie would have done the same if their roles had been reversed.
"I know." Cadie didn't give in to anyone easily. But she knew arguing back and forth with Calista wasn't going to help any of them. "Who knows? Snow and his idiots have their own way of working." Even a few years ago she wouldn't have thought this was even possible. But opinions could change fast, and hers had. As she stood watching Calista, she wondered how easy it would be to get the blonde to change her opinion.
"They should care about you Cal... not your parents." and by them she meant 13. "We shouldn't be punished for what our parents do or did. I'd be in the fucking gutter if that was the case." Cadie had far out done anything that her mother had thought she would become. "Who do you want to stand with?" As far as Cadence was concerned, that was what was important.
Tumblr media
Nobody wanted to acknowledge the situation that Calista had been forced into when the rebellion started. She had never asked to be left in the Capitol, just like she had never asked to be invited in the first place. Every choice that Calista had made was to ensure that she survived and that her family survived. She could still remember how terrified she had been when she met President Snow and every subsequent time they interacted. Had she enjoyed herself? Sure. But she had never asked to be there in the first place. Just like she had never asked to be brought here, to Thirteen. Calista wanted to be home in District Two with her parents. She wanted to forget everything.
"How was I supposed to know that?" Calista retorted, her voice defensive. Cadie said it like Calista should have any idea of what was really going on. They certainly didn't tell her things while she was locked up in here. Calista felt guilty that the people from her District had been treated so terribly while she was free to roam the Capitol. But that wasn't her fault, either! Deep down, Calista had suspected something had been off from the whispers she heard in Domi's home, but still, she wasn't ready to face that. "Do you think that they would have told me that?"
"I didn't even...I didn't even know that there was a rebellion until things happened," Calista said softly. Again, she had been kept out of everything and somehow expected that she should have known that something was happening. Calista shook her head. "I don't think that they're ever going to let me out of here. Not while my parents are still working for the Capitol." Did her parents even care that she was locked up here?

President Snow was terrifying to Porta. But if anything, Livia Snow was frankly even more terrifying. She hadn't personally worked with her before. Though she had sewed a lot of Domi's designs for her back in her intern days. She honestly had no idea what she was even doing here. But nobody said no to Livia Snow. And it wasn't really as if Portia could say no to any work that came to her. Portia was working hard to bring her client list back up. Of course, she was finding that some of her misfortune had brought some people to her door. Though she wondered how many of those individuals just wanted some gossip, rather than an actual garment made. But she wasn't going to say no. She needed the income after all, especially with all the shortages that they were facing. Thank goodness for Domi, was all Portia would say on the matter.
"Domi usually has good taste." But who knew what the taste of the woman in front of her was like. When she'd done sewing for Domi in the past she hadn't paid much attention to what she was actually sewing. "I can assure you there are no fiery disasters, or any colours associated." Since she was trying to distance herself from the rebellion after all. "i brought a couple of designs." She went on, motioning to a couple of dresses, and a pant suit that were on manikins. "But I also brought my sketchpad with further sketched designs that can be adjusted if any are liked." But she anticipated that Livia was not going to like anything of hers. And part of her might have actually been thankful for that. The less time she spent in the Snow mansion the better.

Livia prefers working with Domitila. She's told the woman this, time and time again harping at her that she doesn't enjoy working with her incompetent apprentices. She's told these apprentices as much to their faces, as well — sent them running and likely crying after a lengthy berating and a promise they'll never amount to anything if she has any say in it (unfortunately, they know she does). This woman, Portia, is no different. She's been a stylist for a painfully poor and hopeless district, the same one that breeds barbarians like Katniss Everdeen and Livia's sure even coming in contact with those kinds of people must be grounds for developing some sort of venereal disease. So, she's kept her distance for the entirety of their meeting. "Domitila says you've got promise," she comments, but it's flippant at best. There's no promise to be had coming from a throwaway district even if this woman has styled victors — and especially when those victors turned out to be such complete disappointments. "Quite frankly, I don't recall anything you've made. Perhaps I remember that horrifying fiery disaster your partner designed — oh, the name eludes me. Anyway! I can't imagine you've got anything for me that I'd actually like to see, do you?"

When: During the 68th Hunger Games
Where: After a viewing party
Who: Cadence and Cashmere ( @lepidusoccisor )
Cadence felt like she understood a little more about the Capitol and Capitol parties this year. She didn't think that she would ever fully understand them. But she felt like she had her wits about her a little more this year. Though, she didn't think that she would ever understand a party based around viewing. If she thought too much about it she could just imagine these people sat around watching her games. Though she doubted they'd have seen much with how dark that arena had been. As she'd looked around the room, everyone was enjoying there selves. And she supposed she had too. At least this year she knew how to handle her drink a little better.
It was nearly 2am, and Cadie was getting ready to leave. Surely the party was nearly over. Or were they going to just watch the tributes sleep? That was when she'd nearly bumped into a familiar face. "Cash" The victor from Two murmured with a big smile. Cashmere had won two years before she had, and was from a career District too. Despite only really having had last year in the Capitol, Cadence had developed a good friendship with Cashmere. "Didn't mean to nearly run into you." Though she didn't mind it. Cashmere was a friendly face upon the mostly capitolites in the party. "You having fun?"

Cressida would always be grateful for those around her. So much of the Capitol was dog eat dog. People wanting to be on top and pushing others aside. But Cressida liked having a team. It was good to share the load. Of course Cressida wasn't overly good at sharing the load enough that she could properly rest. "You always are." She mused with a laugh. It was true. Cressida needed to work on asking for help more. Or maybe actually taking rests. Though she was of the opinion that she could rest properly when the war was over. Whenever that would be.
Cressida didn't comment any further on Coin's opinion. Whilst it was somethings okay to agree to disagree she wasn't confident on how Coin took people disagreeing with her. Cressida knew getting footage of the rescue out was important. But to her it felt like she was exploiting already vulnerable people by showing the reunions. Cressida had promised herself that when she left the Capitol that she would stop filming people that didn't want to be filmed. Hopefully one day soon she would actually be able to keep that promise. But until then, she'd try as much as she could. "That does sound like a good idea..." She murmured, her attention turning back to the screen. "I think there's a couple of shots of the backs of people....." She murmured, moving the mouse, and pulling a couple of different stills up. "That feels less invasive, and I think we'd still get the same impact." But without necessarily having to show too many faces. And hopefully Coin would be happy with that.
Tumblr media
To someone else her welcome might have been unnecessary but to a man who'd grown up knowing that he was unwanted, there would always be comfort felt in knowing that he was. "Thanks. Happy to help." He smiled slightly at her but inwardly he couldn't help be cringe. As grateful as he was to be able to do something useful in the rebellion, there were times he felt uneasy having to speak for his fellow Victors. He felt in no real position to say with any authority where the line would be drawn. Still, he was grateful that the question was even being asked, rather than someone forging ahead with a propo that took nothing into account other than impact.
There's a slight nod given, appreciating Cressida's acknowledgement that it almost felt like crossing a line. "I'm sure she is." There's a slight bitterness to the words, finding himself feeling somewhat more cynical than usual. While he knows that they were better off in Thirteen than the Capitol, he's not sure how he feels about the way that they were fast becoming just as much of a spectacle there as they had been. Private moments being almost exploited under the guise of it all being for the rebellion. It's a thought that he pushed from his mind - now wasn't the time to begin deciding if the ends justified the means, just ensuring that they didn't lose momentum on what could be their only chance. "I think we aim to show as little as possible while keeping the impact. Maybe if we cut between things without lingering it'll feel better?"

Cress: [Propo] What role did you play in the recent mission to save the captives and other Panem citizens from The Capitol?
It was unusual for her to be in front the camera. She very rarely did it. To be honest, she was only doing it because she trusted her team so much to not mess it up. Cressida also knew she could rely on Thatcher to edit all the footage. Cressida certainly did not want to look at images of herself for hours upon end during the editing period. And so, with that, she had allowed herself to sit in front of the camera.
She supposed another reason why she had taken so long to actually agree to fill a propo was due to her not believing it would be too useful. Of course, she should think all propo was useful. But she didn't think the districts would care too much about her, someone from the Capitol. And most of the Capitol just viewed her as a traitor. But showing that people from the Capitol could be useful in the rebellion, was something she did think was important.
"I filmed it." Which made sense. She was a film maker after all. That was her job in the rebellion. She filmed most of the propos. Or, she edited it at least. "We felt it was important that the citizens of Panem saw what was happening in the Capitol." Or well, the rebellion leaders had thought it anyway. Cressida figured that she didn't really have much choice. If she'd said no, she supposed theyd have just sent a different filming crew.
"I usually produce." She went on to explain. "But all along I've said I won't send my filming crew into anything I wouldn't do myself." She had been pretty adament on that. Of course it meant exposing herself to danger. But the Districts had exposed them that to 75 years without much choice. This was the least she could do.
Cress bit her lip. She didn't think she was doing a very good job. She wasn't really made to be on this side of the camera. She felt much more comfortable holding the camera, and producing herself. "I'm much better being on the other side of the camera…" She joked, trying to ease some of the tension that she felt. "But it felt important to be there, to document what was happening, and how the rebellion were rescuing the captives. The Capitol didn't care for them. It was important to document that people did care. They are safe here in 13 now." and in time the rest of Panem would be safe too.

Cadence had been slightly hopeful that someone might challenge their choice of resting space. Getting to defend the rest of an older woman would have been more exciting than just sitting here. It would also provide a little bit of a distraction. Not that Cadie should be getting herself in trouble. But it would be worth it to stop the feeling of fear for a little.
Cadie disliked the monotone of the voice machine. It wasn't that she didn't like Mags having a voice now. It was quite helpful. But she didn't like how monotone it was, and she wished that she could have actually heard her friend's voice. "I like your ideas." She did. They were always good. Cadie might not have always trusted the woman in front of her, but she couldn't deny that her ideas were good. "Oh..... you mean Juniper." She murmured, a little smile coming onto her face. She wouldn't mind finding Juniper now she thought about it. "Lets go find them."
She could hear the mumbles of fear echoing against the concrete walls of their shelter. Mags had anticipated this to happen at some point. It is unfortunate that those who are not used to such terrors must experience this. It is even more unfortunate that there were also people here who were used to it to some degree.
A smile pressed upon her lips. One that truly belonged to Mags; showing a hint of white from her teeth and adding a sweet sparkle in her eye. It was genuine. One only reserved for those she truly liked. "I have an idea." The monotone ring of the voice-machine did not match her demeanor. "It is almost a game. We look for Finnick and Caspian and Agatha." Mags wasn't sure if Cadence knew who Agatha and Caspian were but she surely would know Finnick. "I am assuming I am supposed to be near them. And we look for.. what's her name again - your blonde friend?"

Cadence didn't really know what to do. Whether talking would help or not. She knew talking did help. But she wasn't about to force anyone to talk. Cadie knew what that felt like. Nobody had exactly forced her to talk, but even that had been too much for her in that moment. She'd learnt more recently that talking had helped. But only when one wanted to talk. And so, she wasn't going to force Cecelia to talk. She supposed the selfish part of her also didn't want to know all the gritty details. She was already having to watch her friends be in pain, it felt somewhat worse to learn exactly what they had gone through in the Capitol.
"Bastard." She grumbled, a frown on her face. She hated that Snow had gone this to them. She hated that Snow had exploited them all for so long. "He knew us all too well." Snow had known Clove had been her weak spot. He'd known exactly how to threaten her little sister to make her compliant. It hadn't been until Clove had gone that Cadie had really realised just exactly what had been going on. it had been why her decision had been so easy when Johanna had talked to her about the rebellion. Nobody else should have to go through the pain they were going through. "He won't be happy for long. He will pay for all the shit, and unnecessary pain he has put us all through."
Cadence just shrugged, shaking her head. "The academy gave me purpose. My dad had died, My mom abandoned Clove and I. The Kentwell's couldn't care less about us. But the academy was there. It was there when nobody else was. It's a fucked up way of growing up, but it was home. I miss it." She missed home so much. And it felt better now that more of her home way here. Home for a long time hadn't always been Two. "I miss Clove." She bit her lip, trying not to cry. It wasn't that she didn't want to cry. She just wanted to comfort Cecelia, not the other way round, not when the other had already gone through so much. "Nobody else deserves to die." She stepped forward, opening her arms, a little sad smile on her face. "I missed our hugs." Cadence wasn't a person that enjoyed physical affection that much, and years of exploitation had made her enjoy it even less. But hugs from Cecelia weren't too bad.
Tumblr media
Cecelia didn't need a reminder to know that she had been through hell she relived it every single time she closed her eyes. If not the physical torture then she was reminded of the mental anguish that she had gone through. It helped, being with her family and seeing her kids was a reminder that she was safe and everything that she had been told was a lie. That was what had been the hardest thing for her to get over, the lies that President Snow had said about her son. Had Domi truly believed that she had laid eyes on her son? It was a question that kept her up at night.
"I don't know what I want," she finally said, taking a deep breath. "That's the hardest thing. I always knew what I am or who I am...but he took it. He took it when he made me believe that he had my son. I would do anything for Jax...to make Jax safe. But it had all been lies. He knew how to hurt me. Even now...I'm positive that he knows the damage that he's done. I'm sure President Snow is happy."
"It was never like that in Eight. Outside of our work schedules in the factories and school....we were able to be kids. I'm sorry that you didn't get that, Cadie, "Cecelia said. "And I was sorry to hear about Brutus. I may not have liked him and we may not have gotten along..." she trailed off for a moment, remembering how he called her a traitor that day in the mentors lounge. Was he part of why she had been locked up? "Sorry. He didn't deserve to die." At the offer for a hug, she smiled. "I would love that."

Cadence knew that she should be getting out more. She should be doing what her schedule said. She should be pushing for her pain, for the the better future for Panem. Cadie knew that was what Coin would say to her. But she didn't want to push through it. She wanted to mope around. Cadie knew from experience that it wasn't easy to get over the death of a loved one. Losing Clove last year had been proof of that. That loss still felt raw, and now she was dealing with losing Brutus too. Grief was a lot. It was too much at times. And Cadie thought it was okay to hide away sometimes. And that was why she was going to do.
A knock on the door got her attention though. She wasn't used to that many people coming around. Most people left her alone, which was exactly what she wanted. And she was going to ignore the door, but that was until she heard the voice. She hadn't heard that voice in so long. And that alone got her up to answer the door. She had no idea what Natalia had gone through at the Capitol. But if she could push through it enough to come check on her, then the least she could do was answer the door.
"Nat...." She had to force a smile on her face. But she was genuinely happy to see Natalia. Despite her sadness she was so happy to see all her friends that had been trapped away in the Capitol. "Did you make that yourself? For me?" It reminded her of when Ezra had cooked for her after Clove had died. It reminded her that even in her sadness, even in her overwhelming grief, she still had people that cared for her. And maybe that was enough to make her believe she could go on. "Come in."
Tumblr media
@vengefvlx
When she'd heard about Brutus for the first time, she'd been too far withdrawn into herself to take care of anyone, to even care what was going on around her. But when the initial shock had worn off, she realized there were still people she cared about her. Not her blood, no, but kids she'd watched grow up, kids she'd protect just as much as if they were her own flesh and blood. One of those such kids being Cadie, her mind flickering back to hearing about Brutus's death. She knew Cadie had to be hurting.
She wasn't the closest with Cadie, but she'd always made sure to look out for the younger victor. And now was no different. If there was one thing that could pull her out of her own grief, even if only momentarily, it was taking care of others. So she'd made her way to the kitchen, ignoring any naysayers and going about making as hearty of a stew as she could. Being in a kitchen made her feel sort of like herself again, cooking had always been a favored past time. She'd almost always had something cooking in her kitchen at home.
She'd left the majority of the stew for whoever needed or wanted after fixing a healthy bowl and snagging a piece of bread to carry down the hallways in search of the room she'd been told would leave to Cadie's room. She knocked then waited quietly.
"Cadie, it's me, Nat... I brought you something to eat," if Cadie was anything like herself, she more than likely hadn't been taking care of her the past several days. She chewed on her lower lip for a moment, glancing down the empty hallway. "I'll uh... I'll just leave it out here for you." She was beginning to second guess herself, maybe she should just make her own room again.

Cadie: [Propo] Standing alongside The Rebellion in the hopes for a better future is the only way for a changed Panem. What would you say to the people back in your home district right now?
It was hard to think of District Two. It was hard to think of home. She missed home. Cadie didn't think that she had ever been away from Clove for so long. She wished she could go home. Though, she didn't know if she would be welcome. When she'd joined the rebellion she hadn't necessarily intended on her face ending up splashed across so many films. She supposed she hadn't really known what she was going to do in the rebellion. it had all happened so fast.
But what would the people back in Two think? In a District that was so loyal to the Capitol. Cadie herself had been loyal herself until Clove had died. That had been when everything had changed. Sure, she had disliked how the Capitol had exploited her, but she'd also enjoyed the life that being a victor had given her. But then the Hunger Games had taken her little sister from her. Cadie's world had fallen apart.
What would her District say though? Would they just think she was a silly girl driven crazy by grief? Or would they think she was throwing away a good thing. Winning the Hunger games was something so many in district 2 wanted. And she supposed she looked like she was throwing that honour away. But they didn't understand. Only the victors knew what it was like.
"That loyalty isn't everything." She had spoken befoer she'd really thought about it. Her thoughts coming into actual words. "That you might think we have it good in District Two. We get food. We weren't starving." That was true. Having spoken to more people here in 13, people from other districts, she'd truly realised how lucky they were in District Two.
"But the Capitol was just buying us. Buying our loyalty. Making us think that we were are important to them." She bit her lip, not knowing if she was making sense. "But if we were so important, why did we still send people into the Hunger Games? Cato, Clove, Nero….. they were important. They were important to Two. But they were expendable to the Capitol…." She broke off, trying to make sure she didn't break down. She wanted to be strong. Tears wouldn't work for District Two.
"We will always be expendable to them. We just have to be brave enough to do something about it. Enough of our District have died. We have to take a stand. Enough is enough. I've chosen to refuse to let the Capitol own me. Will you?"
