#in regards to meat THIS IS WHY WE NEED TO EAT BUGS#SO much more sustainable than the current meat industry#lots of protein#can raise them quicker#and many
Actually, we DO NOT need to eat bugs at all!
We already have a good source of protein that grows even faster than bugs, is way less resource efficient, and for which we already have the complete infrastructure running, so we don't need to invest ridiculous amounts of money or wait for years for it! It's called beans, lentils, chickpeas, tofu, and all other legumes and legume products!
We don't need to breed and kill bugs to meet our protein requirements in the future, we can do that NOW in a way that's way cheaper, more environmentally friendly, and that doesn't require indiscriminate killing of little bugs for no reason! No need to purposefully kill millions of bugs en masse when you can just Eat Some Beans (tm)
My biggest pet peeve about sustainability discourse is that, yeah, a handful of companies are fucking us all over, and yeah, we need fundamental change coming from the government. But also you need to understand that you can't have both things:
You can't have zero single use plastic and only sustainable materials and expect to be able to afford brand new clothes every month.
You can't have an increase in workers rights protections and expect to still get things you order online delivered to your house in a couple of days.
You can't have meat production reduced to the point where it's not environmental destructive and expect to be eating meat more than a couple times a week at most.
We NEED big scale change but that WILL significantly affect your lifestyle. You need to stop living in a fantasy world where fast fashion prices or eating animal products daily can ever coexist with sustainability.

“Animals do not ‘give’ their life to us, as the sugar-coated lie would have it. No, we take their lives. They struggle and fight to the last breath, just as we would do if we were in their place.”

Prof Scarborough surveyed 55,000 people who were divided into big meat-eaters, who ate more than 100g of meat a day, which equates to a big burger, low meat-eaters, whose daily intake was 50g or less, approximately a couple of chipolata sausages, fish-eaters, vegetarians and vegans.
The analysis is the first to look at the detailed impact of diets on other environmental measures all together. These are land use, water use, water pollution and loss of species, usually caused by loss of habitat because of expansion of farming. In all cases high meat-eaters had a significantly higher adverse impact than other groups.

Factory farm animals are the most abused animals IN THE WORLD. If you claim to be “against animal abuse” but don’t address abuse in the meat/dairy/egg industries, you’re not actually against animal abuse.

It's so dumb too, sometimes someone will see a recipe for seitan tenders and be like "nooo just stick to traditional foods!!". Sir, are you aware that seitan has been used in asian cuisines since at least the 6th century.
when non-vegans say stuff like "just stick to traditional vegan foods instead of trying to recreate dishes with meat/dairy" I always think
veganism is not about vegan food being universally liked, it's about doing whatever you can to avoid paying for animal abuse and death
true, naturally vegan foods from cultures all over the world are already tasty enough and I'd be happy to eat those forever in order to avoid animal abuse. but also:
if you think lentil patties, soy veggie balls, seitan sausages, or almond and miso vegan cheese made at home taste "bad" you don't know how to cook. sorry to bear the bad news.

"Vegans have clearly never been to a farm because the animals are taken care of and all their needs are met! They don't know what they're talking about!"
I don't care!
Veganism is a completely different way of viewing animals. It's not about "let's treat them nicely."
Veganism is the belief that humans should not use the bodies of animals when they don't need to do so to survive.
Veganism means that because an animal can suffer and enjoy things, they deserve autonomy. Using that animal's body for your own gain, even if you try to do so in a way that's sensitive to their happiness and health, is exploitation.
Veganism acknowledges that not every aspect is accessible to every person in the very definition of the word: not partaking in the use of animals as much as possible. It's not erasing the need for systemic change, it's just people trying to live out their ethics consistently to the best of their ability.
You don't have to tell me about how nice the animals are treated. That's usually not true anyway but even when it is, I simply do not care.
If your idea of animal rights does not include the idea that animals should have autonomy then I'm not expecting this post to convince you, but if you talk about how nicely animals are treated or about how veganism isn't accessible to everyone, you're not "owning the vegans," you're just proving that you have no idea what veganism actually is.

Does it really even matter whether we were meant to eat meat or not? The fact of the matter is that we have the ability to thrive without animal products while simultaneously saving lives…Shouldn’t that be enough of a reason? We also started out living in bushes and ate bugs off each other’s backs, doesn’t mean I’m gonna start doing that. Why does “because we’ve always done it/we were made to do it!!!” ONLY pertain to eating meat? Jfc.

Can’t be vegan? Go vegetarian.
Can’t be vegetarian? Do meatless Mondays.
Trying your hardest (whatever that may be) to help animals and the environment is far better than sitting on the sidelines and watching it burn.
