Paladin multiclass

so I know i’ve made a post about this before but I’m planning on playing a paladin in the next dnd campaign i’m in and i’m planning on multi classing into rogue. just for fun, I rolled the character out fully to be level 20 (paladin 9/ rogue 11) and it’s insanely broken. and idk how this combo of a dex-build paladin and a rogue, particularly a swashbuckler rogue, isn’t more popular? like both of them combine dexterity and charisma in attacks and spell casting so well, and as long as you hit you have the potential to deal sneak attack and smite damage on top of weapon attack damage. so with the level combo I have, I can do 1d8 rapier damage plus *5d6* sneak attack damage and a maximum 4d8 divine smite, not even taking into account the potential for a critical hit or fighting undead or fiends where smite damage would double. 

Additionally, the swashbuckler abilities that control an enemy’s reactions and boost your initiative really make this character great for controlling the battle field and dealing serious damage while also having the more paladin-like abilities to support allies with healing and other spells. Besides, with expertise and reliable talent combined, the lowest I can roll on stealth, acrobatics, or persuasion is a 27 which is *insane*. The combo of the justice-oriented paladin, especially an oath of devotion or vengeance paladin and the sneaky and hard-hitting rogue makes this basically a Batman build. It’s wild that this isn’t more popular lmao paladins have so much more potential when you consider things outside the classic strength/charisma mold with things like dex-builds. Granted, this is at level 20 so almost any lvl 20 character is gonna be able to do some insane things but this is particularly wild. I can’t wait to torture my DM with this in our next lvl 20 one-shot

DnD and Inspiration

Okay so, here’s some random 4am rambling

Most of you probably know I DM a game. I have been doing so for over a year and +52 sessions, which is quite a bit! I have three players. And, I’ll be entirely honest: I haven’t ever given Inspiration to my players.

Not because I don’t feel they don’t deserve it, but mostly, because I don’t feel like I’m the one who can judge when do they deserve it. Maybe it comes from being quite burned from a past game, where my True Neutral character was slowly growing into Neutral Good, but made a decision (running away (to find help) instead of getting captured with the rest of the group), and the DM heavily punished me for it, saying I wasn’t being true to a Neutral Good character. I got the XP from that session cut in half, which set me even further behind to the rest of the party.

And ever since, I feel like I can’t be the jury on whether someone RP’d their character properly, so I don’t feel comfortable handing Inspiration on that basis. I even suggested my players for them to be able to give it to each other, but they didn’t really feel like doing so either. 

Anyways, what are your thoughts? How do you handle Inspiration in your games?

Idea: Forceful Casting

(This is just a rough idea, so it may not be 100% balanced. Change as you wish) Forceful Casting is the idea of forcing the magic that you can harness to a dangerous degree, and releasing it into one beefed up attack. This can be used as a last ditch effort to kill something before it kills you, a way to help your party survive before you end up dying, or to help get rid of your character in a cool manner so you can play your backup character!

Ander - Paladin, Oath of Devotion

This is Ander, my half-elf Oath of Devotion Paladin! I’m playing him in a campaign my friend is starting soon similar to Dimension20’s Fantasy High campaign, except this campaign is based in our university. I’m really excited about the campaign because I like the way he set up the school, with each of the different Paladin oaths being different fraternities. I’m also really excited because I chose to make Ander a Dex-build Paladin instead of a Strength-build Paladin. I think it’ll be interesting and while I might be sacrificing a bit of damage for the first few levels, it’ll get better once I’m past level five. Since he’s primarily good with Dexterity and Charisma, that has me in a great spot to multi class into a Swashbuckler Rogue! That’ll allow me to add my Charisma bonus when I attack and the sneak attack damage will be really nice. We probably won’t start playing until after the semester ends but I’m excited!

Varis - Bard, College of Lore

This is the aesthetic board I made for Varis, my half-elf Lore bard for my friend’s homebrew campaign! He’s been a fun character to play with lots of Main Character Energy. With the magical secrets class characteristic he’s dipped into some wizard magic and I’m considering multiclassing into a Divination Wizard to get a cool stacking of Inspiration and Cutting Words and Portent to really mess with rolls. He has a Robin familiar named Mango (I use the Raven stat block). He has a big heart for his friends and his family and wants to keep the stories of his home alive through song and studying history.

Do you take moodboard/aesthetic requests?

not a whole lot anymore. people were requesting moodboards that had like hogwarts house, ilvermorny house, mbti, enneagram, astrology sun and moon and rising, and other stuff too and it just became too much. like i can make a board off of like one or two maybe three descriptors but not seven. also school got really busy.

but if you want an aesthetic especially if it has to do with dnd stuff you’re certainly welcome to make an ask for it!
