Universal Translator
I am not a linguistics expert, but I feel like re technology of the universal translator might not be able to handle certain words. Words that don’t have actual meanings: there is a term in Japanese (I don’t remember what it is) that if ‘translated’ is basically the idea that something can be so ugly and used it becomes beautiful.
I feel that there would be languages (Caitian and Ferasan) that would have ‘words’ like that. The universal translator might not convert them due to having no direct meaning is standard. Perhaps it’s even a word whose use is rare, and thus the translator hasn’t come across it.
Or a language that requires physical movement alongside verbal cues to make a word, like in the Captain’s Table book War Dragons. The species they encountered used verbal and non-verbal cues to make a word. The same verbal utterance but a different movement had different meaning.
This is just a personal theory, but I feel it has basis.
((P.S.: I am planning something interesting for my 100th post. No I’m not giving a clue.))

Treasure Island
So, I got Treasure Island for my e-reader (going to play non-partisan here and not say what kind), and I have been reading through.
John vocabulary is going to get much wilder. Just in the first 7 chapters, Billy Bones, Black Dog, and Blind Pew use so much jargon it's amazing.
And for anyone who has seen Muppet Treasure Island, Billy Bones does in fact say "I'll shake another reef and daddle'em again." It kind of made my night to envision Billy Bones in the much more serious real version of Treasure Island looking like Billy Connely, who played him in the Muppet version (and who is also Noah "Il Duce" McManus from the Boondock Saints movies, and a stand up comedian).
I probably should have read this book sooner.

So how I find the random little graphics hiccups, I don't know. Was just goofing around on Risa and saw....this.
It's a fire pit, they light up at various points of the night/evening. But they are supposed to be on the ground.

Amazing work, as always.
Tumblr media
"My dear Nicole," Q step forward. “Since I come bearing gifts…I have one for you."
Nicole squared her shoulders and pinned him with a solid stare. “I don’t want any of your gifts, Q."
"Are you certain?" He asked, both mischievous and sincere. “Because I can’t think of anyone on this ship…who would want a second chance more than you…"
Her hard gaze faltered a little and Nicole struggled to comprehend what he meant. Her initial thought was no, he wouldn’t dare…but as she tried to get a better read on it the truth was becoming painfully obvious.
Q leaned forward until he could whisper to her. “What do you think your life would have been like, had you chose to stay with him?"
And then his finger snapped in her ear.
((Based on adventures of my STO character and reflecting on an AU I wrote with Deeply-Spaced))

That's Captain John L'Argent
OK, so I have modeled a little bit of John after Jack Sparrow. The antics and sort of dramatic persona. The one eye and name kind of lead me in a pirate direction, and the easiest pirate movies to get a hold of are the PotC movies.
It has now moved beyond that.
I have mentioned John having pets, in game. The menagerie of Epohhs, the aviary of Risan Birds. The pile of Tribbles. There is one I haven't mentioned because I had forgotten I had gotten it.
A Mugato.
This creature is a simian-like thing, more on the lines of a gorilla as it has no tail.
So the fairly pirate-y John has effectively a monkey and several parrots.
HOW DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING!? His name was an accident too. I used my RL middle name  and the french word for silver, effectively making his name John Silver. Then the addition of the optic.
I swear, if they get off duty clothes that are vaguely naval in theme (like Picard or Riker would wear in a holodeck simulation)...I will have to buy them.
"We named the Mugato John..."

So I mentioned I have a number of the Risan birds. This is my "oldest" one, an adult Seaspray. The thing is huge, just look at the picture. And that's not the oldest variation, there are at least 2 more stages.
Still in my inventory I have a Passion Wing and a Firespray fledgling. I'm hatching another and raising yet another. So that makes 5.
In this case it's John wanting a decent parrot to perch on his shoulder...the problem is an adult is almost the size of his torso...

So...yeah...it seems that the Risan outfits don't mesh well with the EV suit being activated. I had decided to do a quick run through the Vlutga Asteroid field to get some more Dilithium and then...this...
At least the light on where the helmet is supposed to be is still there...even though the helmet and John's head isn't...

I have uploaded a total of 17 pictures from the Risa Summer event.
I don't know if that's sad or what, but it's almost like a real photo album now. If only I could get my officers down there...
I've also been hatching Risan birds like a boss, I think I'm up to *ticks off fingers* like 4 or 5, though I sold one duplicate bird so more like 5 or 6 total. I have a problem when it comes to purchasable pets...I also have like 4 epohhs (including at least 2 Winter Carnival ones, need to get back to New Romulus to get more...I blame Nany.)

More pics from Risa. The huge green and red parrots around are places where you can take in the scenery. The bonfires ignite at night. I kind of wish there were chairs or benches near them.

Risa
After talking to some friends who are Trekkies and play STO, I have started writing up an in-but-out of canon story. It has no real place in the timeline and will probably not be brought up again after this but it has to be done :p. John gets into some hijinks (ok, typing on the phone turned "hijinks" into "bikinis"...) while on the tropical planet. Hilarity ensues.

Some more from Risa, this time during the day. It's great that it has a day/night cycle, it really gives not only some variance to the place but also offers RPers more options.
And those of us with a head canon, it gives us more times to take screen shots :p.

Some pics from around the summer event map on Risa. John decided to don his summery duds for this.
(I also didn't realize you can caption pictures...so many possibilities!)

Snipet #1
(This is from the latest story I’m writing, the 17th one in the series. This blog is on about 14 or 15. In this scene there is a cat in Royce’s lap.)
"A planet full of telepaths and I’m pretty sure you think loud enough to be heard from orbit," Royce had opened one eye and turned her head towards John, “It’s best to keep you distracted."
He smirked, “And how do you plan on keeping me distracted?"
The other eye opened and she smirked, “A girl's got to have her surprises, suga."
John’s smirk turned into a lopsided grin, “Right now it looks like all you’re doing is sitting in the sun petting the pus-"
"John L’Argent!"

So I was looking through the screen shots I have, because I sometimes see something and take a screenshot with out having a set purpose for it. These are all from New Romulus.
The top on is from the Epohh fields John is asking a researcher about a certain member of his crew...
Next up is a shot from the end of a river. A massive Nanov sits there.
The last is a shot of a blue (stream) Epohh, and a baby Nanov in the backrgound.
As a player I have a small cache of not only special Tribbles (being an 800+ day subscriber will do that) but also of Epohhs. They do nothing but follow you around.
