Afternoon Tea

Morena Dekarios (so intent on chatting she’s barely touched her tea): Withers dear, I am always so enraptured by your stories! Do tell me, how did you know my son was falling in love with Tav?

Withers: Ah. Thine first true tipoff was when thy smitten fool of a wizard was so distracted by his bosom companion, he made his camp upon a wet riverbank.

Morena: How delightful! What else?

Withers: They both felt an incessant mortal need to press their lips together after every conversation.

Withers: Followed by what I can only describe as gazing at one another with ‘Come-Hither-And-Mate-With-Me’ eyes.

Withers: And, though I wast not present for this exchange, I dost have it on good authority that after one particular battle, your son proclaimed his intention to engage in pleasures of the flesh with Tav. Something about ‘thou’s glistening muscles’ and ‘wanting thou even more’.

Morena (more gleeful than shocked): He didn’t! Gale said that?!

Tara (pausing her cleaning of one paw): I’m rather inclined to believe it. Let us not forget, at Withers’s most excellent party I distinctly overheard our Tav and Mr. Dekarios speaking about—oh what was it now?—oh yes, ‘You look best without any clothes on,’ if I am not mistaken.

Morena (absolutely delighted): Oh, this is too darling! (Tears of joy brimming in her eyes.) This is everything I could have hoped for and more. To know that my dearest boy is so deeply in love and so loved in return! (Turns towards Gale and Tav, who are seated directly next to her) Gale! Gale my dear, is this all true?!

Gale (slumped in his seat, one hand covering his face, his other hand clutching Tav’s for dear life): Mother, when we received your charming invitation to join you for a spot of tea, we had assumed you meant it would be us alone—

I love what it says about your character if they fall for Gale. What about him won them over? His long monologues about the last book he read? The way he'll happily play lanceboard by himself, poring over next possible moves? How he'll get excited seeing new flowers, new creatures in the strange places they end up traversing? How he inquires about where the next possible library is so they can, with their blessing, indulge in a little spell perusing them? I just think Gale shows his loves and interests and fascinations so very plainly and quite unabashedly. He gets genuinely excited sharing his knowledge, whole stars in his eyes when he finds an opportunity to just offer a little bit more about himself, like he's splitting a little piece of what makes him him, his past or his life or what he spent dreaming about as a child and sharing that special little secret with someone. I like you, and I trust you. Will you take care of this? And someone taking interest in that and finding it refreshing even endearing, not just humoring his loves but actively engaging in them or inquiring after them... It means so much to Gale. <:)

#My very first play through I did not anticipate liking him so much #I played EA where's he's more rough around the edges especially to non-wizards #like he still is but it's potentially skippable dialogue instead of a thing that he asks you right of the bat #but it was his stories #his little bits and pieces of himself that he gives you as you adventure with him that really endeared me to him #he wants to share himself with someone that will listen #pay attention #and respond in turn #i made a wild magic sorcerer to romance him second but it still didn't feel exactly right #the sorcerer dialogue is fun but most of the antagonism actually comes from the player and Gale meeting them at their level #It wasn't until I played a Resisting Durge (A Drow Cleric of Eilistraee named Imra) that his romance fully clicked #to have someone as full of devotion as he is #to have someone struggling with intrusive thoughts and their body not cooperating with them #i know Gale understands that #There's an excellent post about both Gale and Durge being Chosen of different gods and how they understand each other that way #For resisting Durge Gale is an incredible romance #I care about this silly wizard so much #Gale deserseves a happy ending #Also bless this post I love everyone that makes me think about Gale in insightful and deeper ways so I understand my care for him better
