It’s been a really long time since we’ve updated. When my microphone died, I unintentionally went on quite a long hiatus.

NOLIA is currently under major tests regarding her pitch sets and append libraries. Release will be far from now as these tests are integral in creating high quality recordings and otos for her libraries.

I’m also currently considering cutting French due to my fluency dropping from lack of practice.

I have a survey open here to try and gauge what I should include with NOLIA’s banks. If you could take the time to fill it out, that would be really helpful!

July 3 Update

I’m going to do monthly updates now, that will keep me consistent and besides today, there’ll be 1-2 per month, one always on the first, and otherwise on the 1st and 15th of each month, unless I say otherwise.

NOLIA will not begin recording until all the recording lists are complete and methods are completely tested. A French reclist is in the works currently, working with JurianChibo for pronunciation help. The test bank will be released for free, however it will only be monopitch and in head voice.

Also, NOLIA’s project is getting a little hectic with Amaryllis Studio’s launch. I’m doing a large trade for graphics, so there is little time for me to work on NOLIA in the project. In between, I work on the reclist.

You can help by asking for songs for me to test the French bank with! Help me decide on some test songs?

Update

There’s a lot that I cannot say right now, but I’m going to drop hints.

The website for NOLIA will not be unique to her anymore... which means, there will be more than just NOLIA. More on that later when things are solidified.

Now, for the events: I have decided the first event will be NOLIA’s official art contest, however it won’t open until I have completed prizes and commissions from previous events. After, there will be an original song contest. I’ll explain them more in the future, but here’s the basics:

Official Art Contest

planned to begin in July and end in late September - may change depending on progress

prizes: 1:00 original song as well as the full official bank (up to 2 languages depending on how many entries received) upon release

will be judged based off art quality and MUST use the original NOLIA design

Original Song Contest

planned to begin late in development - TBA

prizes: 1:00 original song, full official bank upon release (including all languages), free custom character design or sketch from aval!a

producers’ names will not be announced until the end of the contest to prevent voting bias

winner will be based off votes from the community

Like I previously stated, there’s some major changes happening with NOLIA lately, but I cannot reveal them quite yet. I will hint that we’ll be offering various services besides NOLIA’s voicebank...

Update - Fan-Oriented Events? MORE voicebanks??

Hello! It’s been a while since our last update. I’m going to divide this into parts.

Voicebank Progress

NOLIA’s Japanese voicebank is almost completed with the base oto. It’s only been taking so long because the base oto is completely from scratch, and there are multiple added samples (such as the English R, L, and more). I’ve been making a readme document outside of UTAU as well as a sort of guide to using NOLIA, though it’s not a guide for the program itself.

I have decided NOLIA will not only have 10 pitches, but she will have additional vocal tones as well for even more vocal manipulation. While these will be released after her initial base bank, anyone who has her base bank will be able to receive the added samples for free. They include:

Full, stronger voice - similar to LIV’s scrapped multipitch - available in five pitches

Low head voice - initially I planned for LAYLA to have this feature in one of her lower pitches, however some people said she sounded too much like LIV in her lower pitches. Thus, NOLIA was born. The low head voice will be added to NOLIA.

Far in the future, NOLIA will be given a mixed, belting voice featured with four different pitches. Don’t expect this anytime soon I can’t belt yet ahha

Events

To make less silence in between updates, I thought it’d be interesting to close the gaps with fan-oriented events. This time, however, I’d like you to choose what kind of event you want. I have some ideas, and if you like one of them, feel free to say.

Words about the Developer

As of the last few months NOLIA has been only worked on by myself, aval!a. I may contact members of the dev team soon, but I’m not sure. I’ve been trying to create a studio for other projects, however we may be disbanding soon, so my attention will be focused on this and one other project (a series of EPs). NOLIA may be featured on these EPs, so it’s not like while I work on the series NOLIA’s progress will be hindered.

Also, to add some honesty, a game has recently come out that I may have become addicted to, so development will be slowed during this last bit of May and the majority of June. It should start again in July, where I’ll have had my share of fun.

Finally, I have recently volunteered to work with two game developers on music and concept art, but there’s no guarantee I will get the shot. If I do, this will hinder progress dramatically and I will need more volunteers on NOLIA’s dev team myself.

Forgotten Update!

This is old news to those who follow me on other accounts, but I’ve gotten a new microphone now.

I’m pleased to announce NOLIA will be recorded on a RØDE NT1 microphone. I’ll be finishing up the base oto BEFORE I begin recording the rest, so I have time to strengthen my range (and hopefully the middle voice, as that may be the softest part of the bank if I’m not careful).

I believe NOLIA will have 10 pitches instead now; G3, A3, C4, D4, F4, G4, A4, C5, D5, and F5. There may be an E4 pitch added if the transition still needs work (my vocal transition is around D4-F4). Previously NOLIA only had one transition pitch, E4, which proved to be not enough.

In the final bank, of course, if you prefer the tone of a certain pitch you may certainly use it instead of a different pitch using suffixes.

Finally, if there’s a short sample of a song you would like to hear as we test things out later, let us know. We’ll pick 5 samples of your choosing! (Though we want to make very clear they will only be acapella samples and not demos.)

Update (Bad news)

Hello everyone, it’s aval!a, head of the project.

I have some bad news today. Once again, NOLIA’s bank will have to be re-recorded. My microphone broke and I’d like to deliver a solid, consistent project.

However in the meantime I’ll be using a backup to record scrap banks so we can finish base oto configurations so that when I get a new microphone, we’ll only have to adjust it.

I’m expecting the otos to be completed by at latest, March or April. Based on what little funds I have available, I can’t say when I’ll get an upgraded microphone.

Consider commissioning me at @avalia-8bit for a short original or art, or help me on Patreon to help me out!

Hello! Time for another update!

We still need art for anyone interested in helping out for our website. Those who help will be getting the voicebank for free!

Update on the status of how distribution will work: NOLIA will indeed be commercial, but there will be a contest upon her release! A free CV version of all her voicebanks will be released (probably with less pitches as well), and we’ll be hosting an original song contest! The top three winners will get NOLIA’s bank for free.

Finally, after NOLIA’s commercial banks are released, you will get ANY new banks from her in the future in the languages you ordered. This means any appends coming up for NOLIA will be available!

NOLIA Update

I restarted NOLIA’s entire voicebank, and she now has TEN pitches instead. She may even get an eleventh if I’m crazy enough to do it.

Her new pitches are G3, A3, C4, D4, F4, G4, A4, C5, D5, and F5. She may be getting E4 to further seal the gap between her full voice and head voice.

C5 is done recording and is being configured so the other pitches can go by faster before recording them.

The website still needs volunteer artists, so if you’re willing to help out, please send us a message!

Finally, we’ve got an official soundcloud for NOLIA including tests. You may hear her doing acapella snippet covers, but we want to emphasize any covers are only tests of her voicebank and not an official demo. We only have one test up, because I’d prefer to finish configuring C5 to start recording other pitches officially.

I just reworked my patreon a ton and I’ve had it for a while but I’ve been iffy on sharing it because of the rewards. I reworked it because before I would’ve killed myself over them; a lot of the rewards were like a drawing for $1 a month and a song for $5 a month.. which is way too much for me to pull off.

I only have this open because the last time I tried getting a job face-to-face, I wasn’t able to stick with it and ended up quitting the first day because my anxiety got to me,, ehe h– -

Update

Though I got decently far in recording, I’m restarting NOLIA. Her recordings have too much breathiness and noise for the most quality.

She MAY also end up getting 9 pitches instead, due to problems in the transition from full voice to head voice.

English may be completed first, but we’ll see!

I also have two or three beta testers so far (sutorumii, thefishgodutau, and Nex but he doesn’t use his tumblr what a dork), but again, am still taking more! Under the cut is all the things you can do to help NOLIA!!

I will not be able to pay everyone, as NOLIA is mostly non-profit (excluding the usages of her voicebanks by producers on their own albums). Her official compilation albums will go to various charities.
