Being a kid was so fucking funny we’d just go around lying to each other’s faces constantly to impress each other one of my classmates told me he was the first person to visit the sun and when I asked him what it was like to prove he was lying he said he didn’t remember because they sent him there when he was just a baby and to this day the mental image of NASA launching an unsupervised baby into the sun still makes me crack up

it's always kind of funny to me when people insist that honesty is a virtue and you should always tell the truth because being good at lying is something that's been almost universally celebrated for thousands of years by pretty much all of humanity. like there are literally multiple folk tales and legends throughout history and across cultures that involve the hero tricking their adversary in order to win, and it's usually considered a disadvantage to mythical creatures such as faeries that they can't say things that aren't true.

I wanna apologize. I have a couple requests in my inbox that have been sitting there for months.

Some issues I've posted about on my main @arcangelof that have eclipsed compulsive lying are agoraphobia and some kind of health problem that makes it harder for me to walk and worsens my agoraphobia. This isolation has made it so that I don't have that many people to lie to.

I haven't been lying to Tumblr mutuals which is wild. Sometimes when I realize I'm telling the truth where I used to lie, I feel like I should be lying, but I resist the urge to.

I do miss it sometimes though. I was watching Quantico, which without giving away too much, has a character that has been lying about pretty much everything about himself. And in the episode I left off on, it was finally revealed why - the weight of what he did as a solider is so heavy that he wants to live as a completely different person.

I understood him so completely, lying because you wish you were someone else. I suddenly wished I had been lying more these past few months. I can't remember the last time I lied, when I used to always know the answer to that question.

I haven't even been lying about my employment status.

I think it's because I can't be openly trans at home, and I don't go anywhere I could be, online has now become the only place to be myself.

Basically I haven't really needed this blog in the same way I used to, so I just remembered it existed.

I wanna come back to this blog, clean out the ask box, and post more of my own headcanons again, such as the above from Quantico and Toad from Rabbit (my new icon, please watch that webseries on YouTube, it's so good).

I'm almost done writing a fic featuring the Jim Jimenez compulsive liar headcanon, and once I am, I wanna make a new pinned post that'll feature a growing master list of fanfiction I've written using these compulsively lying characters (and maybe another list for fic recs?).

Maybe to add more to my posts, you can let me know if you want me to add like a little paragraph of fanfiction with your request? Would anyone like that?

I'd love to see a compulsive liar character in Our Flag Means Death. With all these themes about vulnerability and stuff. As far as headcanons go, I'm thinking maybe Roach or Frenchie or Jim or Oluwande or Lucius or Pete or Swede (reminder that I take requests), but I also have ideas for a new character. It's not gonna happen, but I can daydream about it until then.

I didn't want to make the original post too long, but here's my reasonings:

Roach - started as a survival tactic that became instinctive

Frenchie - the pyramid scheme

Jim - "weirdly secretive"

Oluwande - just cause Jim and Frenchie are on here

Lucius - rep for compulsive liars who can't keep secrets. Also I partially blame not coming out as why I became a compulsive liar

Pete - talking about Blackbeard

Swede - that post that was like "i can't wait for season 2 to reveal that the swede isn't swedish, he's actually the runaway prince of..." Etc

Also, Pinocchio is as much a story about compulsive liars as it is about trans guys...
