Academically speaking, I still find the whole “anti-shipper” movement to be fascinating from a sociological perspective.

You have what amounts to a extremist purity cult whose beliefs align nearly precisely with those of Conservative American Christianity in terms of sexual purity politics (admittedly with some additional flourishes that I’ve watched develop in real time), but is mostly composed of minority members whose sexual-and-gender identities are opposed and oppressed by Conservative American Christianity.  Additionally, their tactics also mirror religious pro-censorship groups (such as Warriors For Innocence), but their rhetoric is entirely secularized and derived from leftist theory.

Did they arrive at this structure via convergent evolution?  Via socially dominant concepts in the greater socio-cultural space that they occupy?  I doubt it was by direct emulation but the possibility does exist on some levels.

Kids’ brains aren’t done growing, and of course, children SHOULDN’T be looking at porn, buuuuuuut…they’re not stupid. 

By this token, my dad’s a horrible guardian because he didn’t keep a Playboy under lock and key. 

But whose small hands managed to find it in a closet, in a box, under her weight’s worth in medical books, waited to look at it only when he was definitely 100% at work, flipped through it multiple times, always remembered to put it back exactly where it was left, and never told him about finding it because she knew admitting to it would lead to denial of access? 

Yeah. 

‘But that wasn’t a cartoon’ - yeeeeeeeeeeah, that’s not even your point. It wasn’t the point when non-fan made animated porn was a thing, it wasn’t the point when porn with real, adult humans on the internet was a thing, it wasn’t the point when video porn was a thing, it wasn’t the point when sexy magazines were a thing, it wasn’t the point when strip clubs were a thing, it wasn’t the point when sexy literature was a thing, and pretending that the issue is ‘Well a child will think it’s for them and pick it up JUST because it’s a cartoon’ is spurious. 

Stop blaming the porn, teach the kids YOU have about sex freely and frankly in a way that’s appropriate for their age group, and password lock the internet or otherwise curate their screentime.
