(for the purposes of this poll, there is no monkey's paw situation: the chore you pick stays the same level of difficulty/grossness/etc. as it normally is for you, and you only have to do it as often as you want to. the chores you don't pick are magically done for you exactly the way you'd want them to be, just with zero effort on your part.)
I’m noticing an increase in new fic writers on AO3 who…uh…mayy not know how to format their fics correctly..so here is a quick and VERY important tip
Using a random fic of mine as example..
The left example: ✅✅✅
The right example: ❌❌❌
Idk how many times I’ve read a good fic summary and been so excited to read before clicking on it and being met with an ugly wall of text. When I see a huge text brick with zero full line breaks my eyes blur and I just siiiigh bc either I click out immediately or I grin and bear it…it’s insufferable!
If a new character speaks, you need a line break. If you notice a paragraph is becoming too large, go ahead and make a line break and/or maybe reconfigure the paragraph to flow better. I’m not a pro writer or even a huge fic writer but…please…ty…
There's a lot of discourse in the 9-1-1 fandom about representation at the moment in the wake of the whole bucktommy/buddie debacle. But there's one really important example of representation that people don't give the current Buddie relationship enough credit for.
Two men in an emotionally supportive yet platonic friendship.
Western society teaches men that the only emotional support they should get is from their mothers, and then from their romantic partners. That is toxic masculinity at its most caustic.
Seeing Buck and Eddie shedding that, and supporting each other so completely without the pretense of a romantic relationship is So. Fucking. Important.
The fact so many people look at Buddie and say 'there's no way two men could be like this and be platonic' is why it's so important to me that they are.
Their relationship isn't lesser because it's 'just' friendship. There is no 'just' about it. If anything, the fact that they are friends, not lovers, makes their relationship an even more important thing to have represented on screen.
Forget girl dinner, overworked hag lunch is where it’s at. That’s where you eat unadulterated deli meat and sliced cheese in your car with the window shades up and the seat all the way back so no one talks to you.

I kinda see some of buck looking like an idiot as relating partly to ADHD, because I'm exactly the same, I can be book smart but I have zero brain to mouth filter and sometimes I'm not even aware of what I'm saying until a conversation is over. Like he's not stupid but because he's impulsive he blurts out things that might seem odd. I also think part of why the fandom see him as stupid is because he's got such a sunny and extroverted persona (not necessarily personality but on the exterior he's very cheerful), I bet if he was more introverted then less people would think he was stupid.
Yeah, he just gets ahead of himself sometimes, and doesn’t always stop to fully consider the possible consequences of what he is doing or saying. He probably lies awake at night at times like 😳 “wtffff why did I say that????” 😂
HOWEVER, I also headcanon that part of the self-protective shell he built for Buck is actually a pretty skilled social manipulator. Like when you think back to the beginning, there was this scene where Henry was talking about how they don’t really know much about Bobby, but what’s funny is that they also didn’t know much about Buck, either. They didn’t even know he had a sister. Buck makes himself seem easy to know, and he’s good at redirecting a conversation when he really wants to, and I personally believe that there are times that he leans into the Dumb Jock stereotype as a means of avoiding more difficult matters. The core firefam has come to know him well enough to see past that most times for the last few years, but I genuinely think that Buck knows what people’s first impression of him could be, and he sometimes uses that to his advantage.
