NiGHTS had him there. While he sent warnings before taking things as Kid, he seldom said how he was going to do so. It was fun to surprise people, even more so when they expected something to happen and were still surprised by what he actually did. Besides, Kaito may have been warned and not understood it at the time. He could understand now, but that was probably a side effect of sharing the same body.
"So there’s more places like this? How do you go from one to another?” He had half a mind to see if he could visit Hakuba’s dream. He wouldn’t be surprised if that Nightopia was populated solely by clocks. Maybe he could rope NiGHTS into helping him prank the detective in his sleep.
Now was Kaito’s turn to grin. (And wasn’t it odd, only knowing what facial expression the other was making by feeling it on his own face.) “I learned from the best. I grew up surrounded by magic tricks.” He crossed one leg over the other and leaned back a bit to stare at the sky. “Nice clouds.” The cards in the sky matched the ones that danced in his hands. He wasn’t going to think too hard about why they weren’t flying away from him.
He’d captured the Dreamer’s interest, hadn’t he?” Moving between Nightopias belonging to an individual Dreamer is easy, you just need to find an Ideya Palace. Every Nightopia has one somewhere. They channel the power of Ideya and protect it temporarily, opening paths. Dreamers usually have three Nightopais, reflecting their three strongest aspects of the five that make Ideya. Courage, Hope, Purity, Intelligence, and Wisdom. My guess is that this Nightopia is likely your Purity connected, it gives off a vibe like that. A reflection of your Self.” Ideya were complicated.
He followed the Dreamer’s flicker of thought. Hm. Well, he was going to have to explain that. The clouds were a nice touch, though.
“Dream sharing, though is an incredibly rare talent. Transcending the borders of personal Nightopias means crossing Nightmare territory. Fortunately for you, I can stop any Nightmaren. But that’s no guarantee you’ll find who you’re looking for. Very few Dreamers know someone well enough to share a dream.” A mischievous smirk. “I can certainly pass along messages, though, if I run into someone.”

shadowchildkaito:
Kaito very mildly freaked out at the sudden lose of control. If ‘mildly’ meant enough alarm to temporarily fill his brain with so many wild thoughts that it was like static.
With all that he had been through, that was as mild a response as could be hoped for. It was only the fact that it didn’t last long that let him stay asleep.
“A little warning would be nice,” He grumbled. In something that wasn’t his voice, and wasn’t on purpose. He wasn’t even sure he could mimic those double tones. Like two voices speaking at once.
Wait, his mouth had been moving without his say so, hadn’t it. Kaito held up an arm and stared at it for a second. “So this is a dream?” It didn’t feel like any dream he had ever had before. It felt too real for that. But Nightopia must have been what NiGHTS had been trying to say before. It certainly felt like something you would call a dream world.
Kaito tried to move experimentally. He knew how to use a hang glider, but they were actually flying. No strings attached. So long attached this dream didn’t end with him falling to his death.
He slowly flew to the tracks of the roller coaster and waited for it to come by. When it did, he perched on the edge of one of the cars (flying made holding on so much easier) and conjured a deck of cards to play with. “Kuroba Kaito, teen magician. Flashy is part of the job description.” He was just grateful that he still had access to his tricks, including getting his voice back to normal with a bit of focus. If nothing else, it would help differentiate which one of them was talking.
This was certainly one of the more entertaining dreams he had had.
NiGHTS grinned. It was not against his nature to startle Dreamers, but passive startles were a lot more fun. "Now, where's the fun in that?" The jester's tone was light, teasing. Was this someone who could operate on a similar level to him, in some manner? He seemed to be a Dreamer quick on his mental feet. He tired not to pry into the other's thoughts, but surface thoughts tended to float across the connection on occasion.
"Certainly. Nightopias are dream lands, created through- well, I'll spare you the details. They're complicated. The short version is that a Nightopia is a reflection of the subconscious of the Dreamer that dreams it." With this 'Kuroba Kaito' piloting their combined form, that left the Nightmaren free to chat, and the Dreamer seemed to be taking to flying quite well, remarkably well for an older Dreamer, he hadn't woken himself up in a panic.
Oh, now this was interesting. Cards from nowhere. That was a new one. Oh, he was going to like this Dreamer's style, he could tell that for certain. Roller coaster perch too. Well executed. Hm... well, he could differentiate their voices if the Dreamer wanted to. Most didn't bother.
"Nice trick." Genuinely. NiGHTS wasn't sure how to match that himself, he wasn't one for sleight of hand, transformation was his specialty. "I don't think I've met a Dreamer that was a magician before. A few aspiring ones, never an actual one. And I've met a lot of Dreamers." New was interesting. Always.

Yeah, Kaito had a hard time getting any more out of what was being said, even though it was slower this time. And the jester thing in front of him was definitely floating. Huh. He couldn’t see any of the normal tricks behind it, even after circling around. Interesting.
When a hand was extended, Kaito debated his options. He really didn’t know anything about the thing in front of him, beyond a seemingly inability to speak his language and a probable trickster streak. While it didn’t seem like there was anything in that hand, Kaito knew how quickly something like that could change. And he didn’t know how many tricks were up those sleeves. Well, if this was a prank, he could always prank right back.
He took the hand.
Tumblr media
Their hands were linked for only a brief second, and then only one of them was standing there. Technically. NiGHTS wasted no time in shooting into the air juuuust high enough to make his point apparent before handing over active control to Kaito. They were Dualized now, sharing the same physical space, the same body, but aside form keeping them afloat, NiGHTS was taking no further active role in the merge.
"There. Much better." Though his words came out in Marenspeak, the Dreamer would hear his words in plain Japanese. "Now we can properly talk. Anyway, it's a pleasure to meet you. My name is NiGHTS. Welcome to Nightopia. Your Nightopia, specifically. A pretty nice one at that." The Nightmaren looked around for a moment. "Very flashy." The roller coaster was a nice touch.

Well, that was new. Not the transformation, of course, he was prone to similar. It was what he had seen his mirror image turn into that was strange. Definitely not Kansas. Kaito had never seen anything like the being in front of him. And that way of speaking didn’t sound right. Like a foreigner trying to sound out a complicated word, and yet somehow further away from the language than simply being a foreigner would imply.
Tumblr media
“Night-what?” It was hard for Kaito to figure out what was being said, but it sounded like ‘night’ was in there. “Is that something to do with where we are?” That gesture was connected to what was being said, most likely. And if it was a name, it almost made sense for it to be hard to understand. Maybe this really was a dream.
Tumblr media
The Nightmaren grumbled. At least he’d tried. It’s not his fault Marenspeak’s so strange to human ears, and it’s equally not his fault that he can’t pronounce human words easily. Their languages were all over the place.
“Nigh-to-pi-a.” He repeated himself, slower this time, punctuating each syllable by leaning forward a little, making his floating more apparent, though it didn’t sound like he was going to get through. That was annoying. Which meant there was only really one way he was going to be able to communicate with this Dreamer.
As vibrant as this Nightopia was, older Dreamers tended to be buzzkills when he tried Dualizing with them. They usually panic woke up before he could get a word in. The jester sighed and shook his head before offering a hand, trying to convey through only body language that he could be trusted, that was a promise.
“You’re never going to understand me otherwise. It’ll just be for a moment.” Thought not a word of that was understandable in human tongues, it sounded like a mish-mash of syllables, similar to Japanese but clearly not in any capacity. Too many triphones in weird combinations, sounds that weren’t in the Japanese language at all. At least once he Dualized with a Dreamer they could understand him after that. Some synchronization thing or something, he’d never thought too much on it.

NiGHTS blinks, slightly taken aback by both the noise itself and how realistic it sounds when it leaves their alternate’s lips.
After a brief moment, however, their surprised expression forms into a broad grin, eyes glimmering with mirth as they break into giggling themselves.
Tumblr media
“Haha, I love it, other me!!”
Tumblr media
“Why, thank you~ I try. And Dreamers are a good source of excellent material.”
He wasn’t one of the aces back when he’d cared about old wise guy’s plans for nothing, he was quite the mimic. Which could be fun. He’s totally grinning from... well, it would be ear to ear if he had ears, and he’s giggling a little too.
“Let me tell you another good one, not a knock-knock joke though.” He coughed to clear his throat dramatically. “How do you clean a messy tuba?”

     “‘Interrupting cow’ who?”
There’s visible intrigue in NiGHTS’ expression as they tilt their head slightly.
Tumblr media
Before his alternate can completely finish their response, NiGHTS moos loudly. And surprisingly realistically before bursting into a fit of giggles.
“Mooo~” And cue more giggling. He doesn’t care if it’s extraordinarily juvenile it’s just a silly fun one that he likes.

     “Who’s there?”
     Staaares at their alternate intently.

“Interrupting cow.”
He doesn’t care that he got this joke from an actual five year old Dreamer that told it to him, it’s too good and he can’t wait for the punchline.

They’re having too much fun with this–
Tumblr media
More giggling. Puns on tops of knock-knock jokes. Purrr-fect.
“My turn! Knock-knock.”
