WIP Wednesday:

Bodyguard AU. Alex is a mega famous actor, Henry is his new bodyguard.

“Have you seen the movie?” Alex asks him.

“Yes.”

“And…”

Henry glances over at him, “Are you fishing for a compliment?”

“No, I’m asking your opinion.”

Henry eyes him warily, “Why?”

“Because I wanna know what you thought about it.”

When Henry still won’t answer, Alex bites back a frustrated groan and says, “Look; you’re a part of this crazy circus now too. Cash told me he’s officially retiring. He wants to stay home with his family, which means It’s you and me from now on, buddy. We’re stuck with each other. And If that’s the case, then I want to know who you are. Not only because I value your opinion, but also because I need to know what your deal is before it comes back and bites me in the ass.”

Henry looks taken aback. With what seems to be a great deal of effort, he manages to say, “I thought the movie was good.”

“But…” Alex prompts.

Henry sighs heavily, “But I think you could do better.”

“Better? Seriously? Henry, it was the highest grossing movie in this century so far. My agent’s phone hasn’t stopped ringing since the premiere.”

“It was a farce,” Henry says, “The script was trite, and the direction was questionable. What sold the movie was you and Ms. Holleran. Your performance made that movie what it was. You have so much untapped potential, but you’re wasting it on these big budget action thrillers.”

“I’m giving that people what they want,” Alex counters. He can feel himself growing defensive.

Henry turns to face him fully now, “What about what you want?”

I challenged myself to paint at least(!) one Sirius Black art a month this year, so here is the April painting! And as I haven’t had much time in April, I made a more detailed artwork :') Well, but it was a lot of fun! I also added a close up because I really like his face in this one :)

Snippet Sunday:

This triplet snippet exists because of my brilliant friend and beta, @statueinthestone. This was all her idea. It’s Henry’s 37th birthday. The boys are 4.

“Happy birthday, sweetheart,” Alex says again.

Henry’s responding “thank you” is cut off by Finn and Elijah, demanding pizza.

The usual evening chaos is made even crazier when his family video calls in. Despite it being the middle of the night in London, his mum, Bea, and even Phillip all grin at him over the screen.

The boys yell over each other, trying to fill their family in on all the latest happenings. Alex steps in, using his best pre-K crowd control tactics to allow each boy to pass on their vital information one at a time.

“Papi drew a picture of a taco riding on a turtle!”

“Did you know that snakes don’t have eyelids?”

“I can run so fast now the fastest ever.”

Henry’s family beams at them all, oohing and aahing at just the right times, and Henry misses them all so much it hurts.

His family stays on the call while Alex prepares the birthday cake. He lights the candles and as he starts to walk back to the table with the cake held out in front of him.

As Alex begins to sing “Happy Birth-“ Matteo spills his milk. The liquid spreads across the tablecloth. Henry, focused on the spill, stands to retrieve a rag. Alex, who is focused on the cake, doesn’t see his husband rise from the table.

Henry turns and steps right into the chocolate buttercream birthday cake Ellen so carefully made for him. The cake is smashed between the two dads, the remnants fall to the floor, and then Alex goes down first, grabbing Henry by the collar and pulling him to the floor.

The silence that follows is broken by the tinny sound of laughter from thousands of miles away. Alex and Henry pull each other to their feet, covered head to toe in buttercream frosting. Again.

When he can see the tablet screen again, Henry finds his mum doubled over with laughter, tears streaming down her face. Bea has her hands over her mouth, covering a shocked (and delighted) smile. And Phillip is laughing. Truly, genuinely, laughing in a way Henry has never heard before.
