I am seriously baffled that the only thing people have to hold against Tom is Scientology. When we're talking about people, we need to see their actions, what they do shows us who they are. In spite of some eccentricities, Tom has managed to spend his career without being involved in things that could actually harm someone aka racism, LBGTQ+ phobia (+)

I 100% agree with all of this! 

I don’t have a lot to say about Scientology and I definitely do not support the organization/cult though I’d rather not get into Discourse about it here (which I know you’re not doing I just wanted to state that for general reasons).

The thing is I don’t know Tom personally but every person who has worked with him has said incredibly positive things about him as a human. Not just big actors he’s worked with but PAs who he’s help etc. Tom seems to care so much about people, and he works so hard. And people like Simon Pegg know him and have fiercely defended his character. 

Whatever he went through years ago, I feel like we don’t know where he was at mentally/emotionally and I’m not comfortable with people calling him cr*zy or mocking him. I understand the concern about his role in Scientology. But those close to him in the industry seem to have a better understanding of who he is than I ever could and say such great things about his work ethic and his personal warmth. That and he’s got such devotion to fans and his craft.

Hey so in the spirit of defending Tom Cruise, let me just say that I have no idea what he did in the first place? Has he ever hurt anyone? Has anyone ever accused him of hurting them? I’ve never heard of anyone who’s met/worked with him saying anything negative. I just don’t get it!

You’re right, anon!! This is something @youplaywithblood and I have both talked about. Everyone who’s worked with him has said he’s the hardest working and most caring person. Even one of his ex wives, Nicole Kidman has said she still loves him. There are countless stories of him going out of his way to help friends and people he barely knows because he wants to make sure they’re okay and doing well.

All the crap about him is based on rumors. To say “well he’s a scientologist” means basically nothing to me because while that institution is shady, we have no idea how it really affects him and his life. All we know is that he has said it helped him deal with his dyslexia and empowers him to help others. And really it’s none of our business.

Simon Pegg is so protective and defensive of him and has said countless times that the public perception of Tom is so off. And Tom himself has said that people who know him are very protective of him because of all that he’s dealt with. But still he himself says all he can do is focus on work and ignore the rumors.

TL;DR You’re dead on and all evidence points to Tom Cruise being a really good dude who is just human and hasn’t responded to every single thing perfectly. Just like any of us.
